My wife and I are visiting from Ct we searched out restaurants in the area and found the reviews very positive at Llama. We loved the intimate atmosphere only about 10 tables total. We were greeted by the staff warmly and seated immediately. The staff...was very friendly and helpful explaining the menu very knowledgeable about the wine and food. Our server’s were awesome, we were served our main course by the chef. He asked if this was a special occasion, we explained we are on our 40th anniversary vacation . Our meals were excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant. I wish they were in Ct so we can continue to enjoy the food ..More

THE FOOD IS AMAZING. I loved the smoking reveal of the Anticuchos, the beef hearts were so flavorful. The Surf and Turf was divine. My boyfriend ordered the Paiche Amazonico, with the dipping sauce, it was the most delicious bite of fish I have ever...tasted. The food is absolutely 5 stars. The service, not so much. I would not recommend this restaurant for a birthday. In fact, in my 50 years, I don’t think I’ve ever felt more UNspecial on my birthday than I did last night. My boyfriend called twice to request a window seat. (I’m not a big fan of banquette seating or sitting close beside another table). He was told it would not be a problem. He bragged, “Lisa said she will take care of us”. When we arrived at 6:55 for our 7:00 reservation I walked to the back of the restaurant to let someone know that we had a reservation. A server, Peter was too busy to greet me or check a reservation. I was told to wait outside and someone would let us know when the table was ready. After 10 minutes outside in the rain, two couples that arrived at the same time as us were seated at the two front window seats that had opened up, we were ushered to a back corner table. Of course I was disappointed but I understand things happen. Lisa ended up being our server. My boyfriend had to tell her that it was my birthday and reminded her about the window seat, she responded “Oh, that’s right, sorry, things got shuffled.” Lisa, Gabrielle and Peter each waited on us. Lisa stopped at the table to ask how everything tasted, my empty wine glass screaming, yet it remained empty. I poured each glass of wine from our bottle myself. Our palate cleanser was delivered to our table three separate times. We asked Lisa where the beef was sourced, never heard back. Again, no big deal in the grand scheme of things, but when little things keep occurring, it makes for frustration. The kicker was when Gabrielle brought out a small pile of mousse with a lit birthday candle and asked us whose birthday it was. Ouch. We were so unbelievably impressed with our meals that I had to give 5 stars. Plus I have worked in the hospitality industry for 20 years, I know that businesses are short-staffed and things get shuffled but it doesn’t require a whole lot to make someone feel special on their birthday. This restaurant is a gem, my hope is that the level of service will one day equate to the food.More

If you only have a single night for dinner, let this be it. My wife and I had an incredible experience at Llama. The small, intimate environment. The humble, but highly attentive staff. Start to finish we loved every moment and savored every delicious bite....Our evening included... Appetizer: ANTICUCHOS: Marinated and chargrilled beef hearts, andean corn and golden potatoes served with panca pepper-scallions aioli. A unexpected palette cleanser of mango, light champagne, with crushed ice. Entrees: MAR Y TIERRA
Spectacular surf and turf, made with a huancaina cream tagliatelle pasta and shrimp, topped with Lomo Saltado. CORDERO CUSQUEÑO
Andean-style roasted rack of lamb marinated with Andean herbs and spices. Served with: golden potatoes, cusco corn and onions salad and finished with a garlic double cream and huacatay salsa verde. Dessert: ALGARROBINA CUSTARD Black carob tree sap based cream, berries and spun sugar. The waiter suggested it and said “it’s a spectacle.” We agreed! We were surprised by the portions. In most restaurants of this quality the quantity is small. Llama is generous without being gaudy. We will return here on every visit to St Augustine.More

We stopped in St. Augustine to visit friends and they took us to Llama for dinner. They have been here multiple times and have gotten to know the chef and staff. Relatively small but well constructed menu plus another with vegetarian options. We shared a...non alcohol Sangria that was great. Full bar is available. My wife and I shared mango cerviche appetizer with flavors including citrus, onions and ???, forgot. All of us focused on and ordered the Chupo Camarones, a shrimp chowder that has some deep flavors. A bowl of rice to accompany it. I really wanted a crusty Italian bread to sop up every drop. We finished off with Peruvian flan very tasty and not overly sweet. Well worth the visit.More

Wonderful creative food. We were really trying to find a stand alone creative restaurant like this. The entrees were priced high but fairly for todays economy. Perfectly cooked rack of lamb with perfectly cooked sides. I had a pork belly served on top of a...pasta that was perfectly sauced. My only complaint was the ceviche we ordered, there are about 4 or 5 choices and the one we ordered was just way to small of a serving. I understand fish is expensive but the presentation for $17 was just too small. Make it look like you are getting more or charge a little more or offer another type of appetizer. The service was friendly and efficient. We were an 8:00 reservation and I would have liked to be seated on a larger table, instead we were seated on a deuce by the door. I thought they expected more diners but there were none. I think we should have been offered a more comfortable table. None of this prevented us from having a wonderful food experience. Great job.More

BOTCHED BIRTHDAY! I joined Yelp because my daughter and I were incredulously mistreated by Louis and as a result of his arrogance were humiliated and kicked out of this restaurant on my birthday! Can u believe this after they lost my reservation?? I booked this...restaurant a week in advance for Jan.4. For 5:30. I talked with a man. Unfortunately I did not get his name as I usually do being in the business for decades. I stated that it was my bday and requested a special table and if anything later opened up to please contact me. The day of, Jan. 4, I called the restaurant twice to ask if there were any later cancelations. If no one picks up at Llama the call states,"please enter your remote access code." This along with hiring rude workers does not make up for good food. U have to show respect to customers and that is with good communication! As the day progressed my daughter called Llama for me around 3pm on HER phone. Marcel (I know the owner is named Marcel so I am assuming he is the same) answered and she asked if anything later opened up. He said the latest we could come was 6pm. She agreed. Later in the night after the scene that Louis instigated I realized Marcel had called MY phone and said that a 7:30 was available and to call back and confirm? I still have this vm from Marcel! We were in agreement for 6pm so of course we headed to the restaurant to celebrate my MILESTONE BIRTHDAY quietly at Llama at 6. Our Uber took a wrong turn in heavy traffic then we were caught at the bridge . I called llama twice to tell then we were going to be a tad late. No answer. We arrived and Louis entered my birthday only to unravel any joy I possibly had. Louis did not greet us hello with a smile, he NEVER apologized for not being able to find my reservation all Louis did was basically say to me,"PROVE IT!" He asked me to find a text from Open Table. I told him I thought I erased it but looked. I didn't book with Open Table I booked with the restaurant. Plus I like to keep my texts to people in my life. He then admonished me, " Maybe u shouldn't erase your texts." Really? Well maybe Louis should get some manners and learn restaurant etiquette. The customer is never wrong. He continued to ask for proof (putting the blame on me) and ordered me to write down the name the reservation was under, check my emails, check my texts AGAIN , etc. Louis kept on blaming me for not having any proof of my reservation! He should have focused on how he could have alleviated the situation instead of putting the onus on me! A real gentleman and someone that knew the business would have apologized and said,"Give me a moment to please fix this situation." And find a way!! Louis knew it was my birthday but continued to drill me which I wasn't too happy about but was trying to keep cool. This went on for awhile being the most ridiculous situation in a restaurant I have ever been in. Suddenly my daughter says, "Mom, they are taking pictures of us!' My daughter asked, "Why?" to the woman taking pics and she shrieked,"I'm gonna blast u on the internet!!" My daughter tried to explain to the woman that Llama lost our reservation and the woman continued to be vile and said,"You two are ruining our night." (All about u!! Oh happy u!) I interjected and told them how sad they were and to get a life. I informed them they did not know what was going on. Then the woman flipped me off showing how classy she was and I was there with my camera seeing that she threatened to blast my daughter who has a very delicate job. So here we are mother and daughter simply trying to celebrate my birthday and who caused all of this!?? Louis!! He then had the audacity to kick us out because he does NOT know what he is doing!! We were basically just accosted by him and his vile customer!! My daughter was in absolute tears because of such meanness and worried what the woman would do. Seeing that we live in a society that is so quick to judge without knowledge. Reason being I am explaining everything! It's really a sad state of affairs when restaurants treat customers like crap and people have only hate in their hearts to try and ruin others happiness. Please people put your phones down and STOP judgments unless you have the facts! My birthday was ruined but what upsets me even more is how hurt my daughter was by all of this. RUDE, MEAN, people shouldn't work in restaurants and their customers shouldn't be allowed to put their ugliness on others in restaurants. Louis you kicked out the wrong woman that night!! I called for two days now trying to give the owner an opportunity to calm this horrendous situation to no avail. His food may be good but rudeness and meanness destroy the sweetest mouthful of food. GO WHERE YOU ARE RESPECTED! BTW, I only wrote one review on Yelp and he responded attacking me with lies. He told me he had video footage and I welcomed him to show the video. Show the truth Marcel!! Because he attacked me again--I am expanding my audience to the truth. Take your money to kind people--they can cook too!More

Just got into town from Tampa, and had been told this was a wonderful place to dine. Had a 7PM reservation and were seated right away. Enjoyed every moment. The staff were so attentive to husband's allergies and made menu recommendations; were so accommodating. Everything...we had was delicious. He had the Pulpo and was delighted. She had the Ceviche Nikkei and it was out of this world. The flavors are spectacular and the presentation so on point. A must try is the Mar Y Tierra with either the Lomos or hangar steak,... the taglieattelle was perfect and the sauce worth licking the bowl (but we didnt'). Save room for dessert, the Algarobina custard with the spun sugar is not only photo worthy, it was a very divine dessert. Husband had the Alfajores Affogato with the expresso shooter and was swooning. This is a culinary experience and a treat. Don't miss it. But do get a reservation, There are only 8 tables, and you want to be one of them.More

We have been to Peru and can say that this restaurant offers truly authentic Peruvian food. We had Ceviche Lima as an appetizer and it was great. The sauce was just right and had a little bit of kick to it. For a main course...I had Tallarines Verdes with steak and the steak was so tender and the pasta extremely flavorful. It is a small restaurant and they were full so be sure to make a reservation. The service was excellent and friendly as well. We will definitely be back!More

Thanks to a last-minute cancellation, we were able to get a 7 PM table. Llama deserves highest praise for customer service and overall experience. The restaurant is small, but that seems intentional so all the tables have maximum attention. Our server told us he’d been...there since day 1 of the restaurant’s opening, so that speaks highly of how the staff is treated by the owners. A second server attended to us as well during his slow time. Wow—that is unexpected and superb service. Thank you for an amazing meal of lamb and surf and turf, Llama. 🦙. By the way, the baker of the Llama cookies deserves an extra hug. They are delicious!More

My first time in here was for my birthday. I heard about this place from my boyfriend and his daughter who found it by accident. I read the reviews on the 2 hour ride from Melbourne. To give this place just a 5 is a...travesty, as a 10 would suffice. The ambience is welcoming, comfortable and cozy. It is an older building with maybe 10 tables ( I didn't count) the decor mildly Peruvian and the rest is the owners personality. They opened at 5pm and we were there on time and ready to eat. We ordered the ceviche Nikkei which was outstanding. My boyfriend ordered the Mar y tierra which was a different twist to lomo saltado, the chefs take on this traditional dish was delicious, as he used pasta with huancaina sauce (Peruvian alfredo!! cool). I ordered the Andean mushroom with quinoa, you can add seafood for an additional charge-please do this!! it was outstanding, beautiful and enough food for leftovers the next day. The flavor parade on your palate is mind blowing. The service was impeccable, Luis was gracious, knowledgeable and served us like a pro. We will be back to see them whenever we are in the Saint Augustine area. My only advice for the wait staff: Your guests are so excited to see you, when you open at 5pm, hold the door and escort them in, don't just unlock the door and walk away, this shows your appreciation for their patience. As an owner of an establishment that serves the public, let me address those that gave this wonderful gem bad reviews. First, in the hospitality industry, time is of the essence, this is a small, from scratch place, one late guest throws off the entire seating process, adding and subtracting people from your party will also affect the planned evening. The gentleman from Miami who was boisterous, rude and condescending giving this creative group of people one star should be ignored, as he did not bother to give the staff a chance to show off their culinary skills. Second, those of you that complained about portion size and prices, this is not a "joint", this is fine dining, and all of us in this industry were severely impacted and continue to be due to the aftershocks of Covid-19, shut downs, distributors and growers unable to deliver product due to lack of transportation and the price increases that ensue. It is better to pay for fresh than something off a truck that was frozen and vacuum sealed. Let me say thank you to the chef, the staff and the best birthday meal I have had in a very long time!!More
