The thing we like best about the Durham Ox is its friendliness and outstanding level of service. Having said that, the food on our second visit was as good as on our first visit, and Tony recommended an excellent Californian wine. Special menu for Valentine's Day, but with food strongly reminiscent of normal menus. Can't recommend it too highly. We... More

I have been trying on a few occasions to take my partner for a meal there, after having been a couple of times before. Food lovely service sorry to say let you down. We had to ask for the menu, but not the ones to do so. Food arrived and was dumped on the table. Would you like the desert... More

I've been here several times with various visiting family members and friends and I've not had a bad meal yet. The layout is unique with cosy sections and an open fire. The food is not cheap but the quality is tremendous, the beer is good and I was told the house red was nice too. The staff are great, always... More

My boyfriend and I visited The Durham Ox on a Friday evening. The staff were all welcoming, friendly and efficient. Charlie the owner was lovely and took care of us. The food was amazing - we had the sea bass arancini to start and it was exquisite. The mains came out roughly 10 minutes later and were equally as tasty.... More

With 3 young children in our party, waiting 15 minutes just to see the menu and a further 20 to order was not ideal! Food good but between 5 adults a small dish of veg was not really enough! We would have asked for more if we'd've seen a waitress again! We didn't! Luckily a nearby table had condiments we... More

Description
The Durham Ox is the oldest inn in Ilkeston dating from 1780 with later Victorian editions. The property is steeped in history having once been used as the town gaol with secret passages taking the prisoners from the cells in the cellars up to the Church in the market place where they were tried for their crimes.A major scheme of renovation and restoration this year has returned the pub back to its origins and created a quiet relaxing haven in which to unwind and enjoy a drink or a home cooked meal....or both
