We stopped here for lunch in part because it was across the street from the hotel we were staying at, but it's right off the highway and near the airport, so fairly convenient even if you're in the area or have just flown in. However,...based on our experience, we can't recommend this place unless you have nothing but time on your hands or feel really lucky.
We walked in the door and were given a choice of eating on their patio or inside - as it was around 90 degrees, we decided the latter (we were in the minority of the 10 or so parties in the restaurant, maybe two-thirds had chosen the patio). We were escorted to a table and handed a menu.
After two or three minutes, we'd decided on what we wanted to have, but alas it would be a long wait before anyone on the staff felt the need to take our order, even for drinks. After a few minutes, a server dropped off a couple of small plates (presumably for rolls) and a couple sets of silverware - odd as we had told the person who seated us that we were dining alone. Unfortunately, this server didn't hang around so we couldn't inform them of this (although the fact we only had the one menu might have been a clue), nor did they take even our drink order (we would have been happy to also give them our meal order as well). Indeed we sat for 25 minutes before someone on the serving staff finally broke down and asked us how we were doing.
We gave them our order and wondered how long it would be before our food showed up - it shouldn't have taken too long as we just order a grilled red snapper filet with yellow rice and fried plantains so nothing exotic or needed detailed preparation. However, it took them about 20 minutes to finally bring our order to us. Now, shortly after someone had taken our order, we noticed a party arrive - they were seated by a server who talked to them for a while and wrote down what we presumed was their drink order. Their drinks arrived in about 5 minutes and their meals followed 5 minutes after that - we don't know what they ordered, but it couldn't have been much simpler than our order, certainly nothing to merit a 5:1 difference in service time, even if all they'd ordered was a bowl of boiling water. By the way, just before we left another group arrived, they two had their drinks within 5 minutes of being seated - we didn't feel the need to wait to see how long it took them to get some food as we had a plane to catch
The food order itself? Well, the fish was fresh and cooked fairly well, moist if somewhat devoid of seasoning (we fixed it with some lemon and hot sauce). The rice was okay, if gummy, and the plantains were good, but we'd expect no less for the $40 tab (before we added a $6 tip) and certainly don't think it merited nearly an hour wait in an almost empty restaurant.
Should you come here? It's up to you, but next time we want seafood in Miami, we'll be going somewhere else.More
