Brotula's Seafood House & Steamer is a locally-owned & operated, casual, family friendly seafood restaurant on the Destin Harbor. The name Brotula's is derived from the Bearded Brotula or Cusk Eel that is caught right here in the local waters at depths of 350 feet. It is one of the best kept secrets among the local fishing community and some amazing tasting fish. Here at Brotula's we specialize in fresh, locally-sourced seafood, produce, and a wide array of steamed and boiled shellfish platters that are integrated into a fun and rustic, yet sophisticated southern fish house. Some of our most popular dishes includes the steamed snow crab, lobsters, and mussels. The Chef Inspired menu will display a wide variety of flavors, with focuses on New South culinary preparations of traditional coastal offerings from around the country. The food and staff here are great. My wife and I both had the blackened red snapper on cheese grits with Louisiana BBQ sauce and it was probably the best seafood I have ever had. For desert we had the strawberry bread pudding which was also incredible. Our waitress was very nice and seemed to anticipate our needs, I wish I could remember her name, I’m bad. The night before we ate at another seafood restaurant that was recommended and it was a joke. It cost just as much and you were served in plastic baskets with plastic utensils on filthy picnic tables outside and the food was cooked in a trailer, this place is the real deal. So if someone recommends Dewey Destin for seafood run as fast as you can to Brotula’s Seafood House & Steamer, you will not be disappointed.

We ordered the Hook & Cook which is a meal in which the guest brings their own fresh fish and the restaurant prepares it. We had about 5 lbs. of Red Snapper, some blackened, some grilled, some fried with 8 sides. Each member of our party was able to pick 1 side. That total cost of the Hook & Cook was $182 for 8 people with us providing the fish, which was a great value, IMO. And, the food was truly outstanding. The service was a little slow. But, the waiter, JB, was “the Man”. He made up for some shortcomings from the back. We will definitely be returning to Brotulos!

We arrived around 5 hoping to beat the dinner crowd with the social distancing requirements. We were sat immediately at the elevated dining area. It appeared the outside dining was closed?! We were a little skeptical at how few people were in there even though it was early. Our server immediately brought us all a water and was knowledgeable of the menu. He shared with us that it was half off all appetizers and domestic (Miller lite, Bud, Yuengling) draft was half off as well. First cold beers we had all week (other places had lukewarm drafts). We ordered the fish dip and bacon jam oysters appetizer. The fish dip wasn’t much but the oysters were great. My wife and I both had the blackened red snapper that’s served over creole cheese grits with a New Orleans bbq sauce. This entree was flat out amazing! We had great service and great food at Brotula’s!

We are here right now. I have more than enough time to write a review because the service is soooo slow and there is hardly anyone in the restaurant at 3:22 pm. Ordered the happy hour drinks and my husbands beer tasted watered down and my wine was a very small pour for the happy hour special. Ordered the shrimp cocktail for 15.95 got a small pan of mealy not fresh shrimp. Decided not to eat supper here. Going elsewhere for a good meal and drinks !

When we went it was prime time for dinner and there were a few cars in the lot, which concerned us. We ask to be seated near the window for the view and was place at a limited view table. The server didn’t speak the greatest English so that made it hard to understand the specials. Our shrimp cocktail was not fresh and small.
We had the snapper and the grouper. It took forever for the food to come out The manager finally served it to us and said sorry they took so long but it was over cooked the first time. That was the only thing that was right about this visit. Both had little flavor, was ok but nothing special. We probably won’t go back due to slow service and average food for $100+

I really wanted to love this place. I took my Mom, my daughter and her friend to Brotula's because they love seafood and I had heard good things. Our experience left us feeling sick about the amount of money we paid after leaving hungry.
1. I ordered King Crab and my daughter did as well. It advertised 2 king crab legs, so we knew that in advance. We thought that for $70 for two crab legs, that they would be fairly good sized. When they came out, we were all so shocked by how small they were that the entire table went silent. We were not given any tools to eat the crab and crack it open until our waiter came back around about 10 minutes later and we had to ask for it.
2. The waiter was trying to be funny, but told my daughter and her friends how ugly their shoes were. As 13 year old girls wearing Birkenstocks, they laughed it off, but when he walked away, they said, "Rude."
3. The waiter asked where we were from. We told him Iowa. When my daughters friend ordered friend chicken, he called her a "redneck."
4. We ended up talking to them about the tiny portions of crab and the $70 price tag that came with that. He said he agreed and went to get the manager. The manager came over and explained that that's just how it is right now and that he agrees that it's over priced for what you get. 2 TINY crab legs, 2 baby potatoes and half a piece of corn on the cob. $70.
5. The waiter was shocked that the manager handled the situtation like that and DID bring us 2 desserts on the house to try and make up for it.
Like I said....I wanted to love this place, but too much went wrong for me to be able to give it a good review. It DOES have an amazing view

While the wait was short, even on a busy Thursday night when Destin has their weekly fireworks over the harbour, the food was not great! Chose this restaurant based on reviews and PHOTOS. Note..the food looks NOTHING like the photos! The alcoholic drinks did not offer enough alcohol for the price. We live on the coast of Florida and get awesome, fresh, straight off the boat seafood. The prices of the food was EXTREMELY inflated. We can get fresh seafood (and a lot more) in our area restaurants for half the price of Bro's, and the taste doesn't even compare!! The only reason I gave this review 3 stars is because of the location and view (we happen to be there and sitting on the deck on a Thursday night when fireworks are displayed over the beautiful harbour.

We’ve visited this restaurant before and had decent meals. However, our last visit was very disappointing. Two of us ordered the shrimp tacos. When they arrived we realized they were fish tacos. The server quickly assured us he’d get us the correct tacos. Had we known what was coming we would have kept the fish. The shrimp tacos had teeny, tiny shrimp (assuming from a can). Seriously? In a seafood restaurant on the Gulf? I’ve never seen shrimp that small-I’m talking tiny. I live in this town and there are plenty of fresh shrimp of every size available at all times. It’s a shame because the slaw with the tacos was very good but there was no excuse for serving that shrimp.

We have always loved Brotula’s but had not been in over six months. The service was horrible. We were served appetizers and waited 15 minutes for utensils; therefore, our food was cold. There is nothing worse that cold baked oysters. I ordered the brotula special and it was so dry and tasteless.

We chose to have dinner here due to the positive reviews and were very disappointed with each and every item we selected. The mojito was so sour we had to add Splenda to make it drinkable. We both ordered the baked oyster medley and although the flavor was good, they were served lukewarm and they were barely palatable due to the high salt content. That was also the case with the brussel sprouts and the seafood gumbo. So, not one item was good and although we told the waitress and the manager took the cost of two items off our ticket, neither the manager nor the chef came to talk to us. After our experience, we question where all of these positive reviews actually came from. We will not be returning.

We actually ate her twice. The first time around was Sunday brunch for bottomless mimosas. My friends had shrimp poboys and I had mahi mahi Reuben. Everyone enjoyed their food but the Reuben was the stand out, I’d order it again.
The second time was to have our own catch of day cooked there. The hook and cook deal was wonderful. Only $17 a person and they cook your fish and let you pick a side per person and additional sides if requested. We caught trigger fish, white snapper, and Spanish mackerel. They cooked them up and they were delicious. We had green beans, cheesy grits, Brusselsprouts, coleslaw, and Tasso rice. So dang good.

Ordered take out for lunch. Ordered the special grouper and shrimp and grits from the dinner menu. Hostess taking order was not very knowledgeable of the menu. Charged us automatic 15% gratuity for a takeout. We normally tip well even on takeouts but tips should be our choice. Had to ask for silverware. No crackers or bread for gumbo. Grouper was a small portion for $32 and was overpowered by salt. No Tasso and andouille sausage in the shrimp and grits as advertised. Probably not a good idea order from dinner menu during lunch. A little disappointed especially for the price and we do not mind at all paying top dollar for good seafood.

After reading the great reviews we decided to give Brotula’s a try. Like many restaurants they don’t have actual menus so you have to scan your phone and try to read the menu on your tiny screen—which is difficult, especially with a 19 month old in tow. Our waiter didn’t offer any suggestions and didn’t even offer a kids menu—which they do have, but apparently you have to ask for it. Our group ordered fried fish, shrimp and Mac n cheese for the little one. Everyone that got the fish thought it was good. The fries were so salty none of us ate them and the steamed vegetables that come with the meal were terrible. My sons Mac n cheese was much better than my shrimp. The waiter didn’t offer anything for our son to drink, so good that I brought water for him. We also had to ask for refills on our waters. So, overall the food was average and the service was average to poor. The food was prepared quickly and the view is nice, but I can’t say I would recommend giving it a try.

So I'm a local here in Destin and drive past Brotulas all the time. Yesterday I decided to try the place out for the first time. I went in around 11 in the morning for brunch and had bottomless mimosas with this incredible shrimp and grits omelette. And my server Brittany did an excellent job of keeping my mimosa glass full.
I have been hesitant to try this place for a while because I assumed really nice places like this that are on the harbor must be really expensive too but it really wasn't even as pricey as I thought it would be. That being said, I plan on going back again soon so I can try the rest of their breakfast menu and get as plastered as possible on mimosas before noon.

How is this place not crowded???? We enjoyed our half price, happy hour appetizer of fried calamari (best I’ve ever had with a divine aoli) , fried shrimp dinner, view of the bay and excellent service from Zoie! She let us know about the happy hour specials and took excellent care of us. When we gave our credit card to pay, she noticed it was USAA, asked us if we were military and gave us an unexpected discount. This place is a gem! We walked on the warf after dinner and had a fantastic evening. I must say this wasn’t the 1st place we attempted to dine tonight but it will be from here on out.
