As others have written, Sambo's Tavern is a great place - this is the real thing as far as great local crab houses. I've been to the Eastern Shore many times over many years, but somehow never made it to Sambo's Tavern until this trip south. We were going through the Dover area on Route 1 and checked Trip Advisor... More

Sambos is an old Watermens tavern that has pretty much gone unchanged for the last 50 years. The décor is what a Seafood tavern should be old tables covered in newspaper, pictures of old stock car celebrities adorn the walls, and old beer signs. Actual waterman selling crabs on the docks lined with crab pots. No one under 21 is... More

The view was of a typical back water fishing village, the restaurant sits right on the banks of the water. I ordered the lightly dusted fried shrimp and I thought they were good but the platter came with 2 sides which came in very small cups, my Wife got the crab cakes and she said that they were prepared well... The food was well prepared but a bit pricy. We sat near the window and the view was really nice. I called the day before for reservations and the hostess couldn't find it when we arrived. She found a table for us near the window. My crab cake Imperial was just right. I took some home so it was a... More

The tavern is off Rt. 9 and word to the wise no children. They have a tavern license and if your not of drinking age you are not allowed. The seafood was fantastic. Steamed clams, steamed shrimp in Old Bay, fried string beans (unreal), fresh oysters, crabs, fried shrimp. Never got to order the dinner to much food in appetizers.... More

It was our 1st time here because we have a child & had to wait until she was with family so we could eat here (over 21 only). It was well worth the wait. We went on a Sat evening at 5:25pm & didn't have a reservation so they sat us in the front section. You can reserve a table... More

While vacationing in Dover, we stopped in to Sambo's for crab dinners. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is uninspiring although the view is nice. The food was just OK, we had the crab cakes and the hardshell crab boil. It was quite expensive for the food served. Service was very slow, even though the restaurant was not busy.

I can't prove that our credit card was hacked through the waitress at Sambo's…BUT it's never happened before and the waitress kept hanging around and asking us lots of questions….where we were from, etc. Three days later we received notification that someone was using our card number. Also note….it was a card we seldom use.

I had the Flounder and my wife had the Crab Cake. During race time in Dover you should make a reservation. The help was knowledgeable and attentive but not overly friendly. The food was rather high priced for a place with long tables and group seating and newspaper for table cloths but the food was pretty good. This place is... More
