If you are in the mood for diner food, I strongly suggest that you head anywhere but Plaza Diner. We had a terrible experience at Plaza last night. We were a group of seven, five adults and two toddlers. Stood by the door for almost...a full five minutes before we were even acknowledged and seated. Took forever for a waiter to come over, then after we ordered, it took 50 minutes for our food to come out. At a near-empty diner on a Tuesday night, it took almost an hour for our food! Waiter never came back to our table for drink orders and he never even checked to see if we needed more water.
When the food finally came out, it was fine--basic diner fare, although two of the orders were wrong. Then, the waiter never came back with the check. It took 20 minutes for him to emerge from wherever he was then another ten minutes to bring back the check after we requested it.
And this is when the experience really took a turn. I got up to pay at the register by the exit. There was no one working at the counter and five people waiting to pay their checks. There were also three small parties waiting to be seated and people coming in to pick up food. Finally, a surly teenager comes out to the register and decides that she's only going to wait on the people she knew. Diners who were not in line were handing their checks directly to her to cash out. She completely ignored the group in front of her trying to pay their bills and took care of people who were calling in orders, people picking up orders that WERE NOT EVEN READY YET, etc.
This is insane. 15 minutes to pay my bill, which was a decent bill of almost $100 since we had seven people. This is how you treat paying customers? Customers who have been there for two hours are being ignored for over 15 minutes because your cash person wants to chat and not do her job. I honestly could have just walked out and not paid my bill at that rate, no one was paying attention to the crowd around the reception desk. Eight people came up and just handed her their bills. When it was finally my turn, the girl at the register looked up at me and said, "What do you need? A table?" Seriously?! No, I'm trying to pay for my mediocre food and bad service. She offered no thank you for coming, no greeting, etc. and threw my credit card back at me.
I didn't go out for dinner to be treated poorly. I work in a service job; if this position is too much for this person to handle, she needs a new job. Also, the manager (or maybe owner), stood at the bar playing with the remote and talking about the show on TV with the customers who were 'friends' that entire time, not even paying attention to the craziness by the door. Great management style. Absurd. Don't waste your time and spend your money at a place that will appreciate it.More
