As Omicron ravishes our home state and the world is once again shutting down in the face of a pandemic, we chose to stop here on the way home from our traditional New Year’s Eve movie to toast to a wonderful 2022. A note taped to the front door announced that due to Covid illnesses and quarantines, a very limited menu would be offered. Down but not out, bent but not broken. Of course we would love to stay… We were met with the same bright smiles and attentive service as we always are. Our waitress, who appeared to be the only one on deck for the entire saloon area, was decorated with a “Happy New Year” tiara and a festive demeanor. Our drinks came almost instantaneously upon ordering, Ginger ale and milk for the kids while I enjoyed their seasonal Apple sangria which was delicious!! We dug into the clam chowder and the lobster bisque to start, both of which were exceptional —We have sampled many bowls of the same across all of New England, and the versions here are not only reasonably priced but easily in the top five. Really. J. Timothy‘s famous wings rounded out the meal. My daughter stuck to the non-sauced traditional bone-out version while my son and I dug into a pile of the Sweet Red Chili bone-less option; the sweet sensation pleasingly satisfies the tongue while the tingling heat of the chili slaps the lips silly— I must be getting more tolerant as I only had to dive into the emergency bowl of ranch dressing to ease the pain twice! Gotta try them for yourself. Yum. A staple in the area since 1789, this establishment isn’t going to let a little old virus drag it down and out. Thank you J. Timothy for a wonderful segue into what hopefully will be a much better year

Amazing food and great atmosphere. They talk a big game with the wings and they backed it up. They were some of the best wings that I have ever had. I followed it up with their homemade chicken pot pie which was hearty but not too filling. The ingredients tasted so fresh. First class operation with wonderful servers.

Whenever I visit my son in Avon, we always grab dinner at J Timothy's Taverne. It's an interesting place: situated in a historic building with a crazy good menu, always busy, and totally worth the wait. I totally crave the potato skins and the lovely, delicious & enormous beet salad, while my son & husband are obsessed with the chicken wings. The portions are substantial, and even the condiments are presented with volume. You will not be disappointed with this pub food! My advice: call ahead for preservation or get there early before the dinner crowd arrives. Its always a busy place.

If you are in the Hartford CT area and are craving Buffalo chicken wings J. Timothy’s is worth a visit. Their very own “Dirt” wings are a special recipe that is a must for anyone that loves wings. I tried the “dry rub” wing recipe for comparison but prefer the traditional Buffalo wings “Dirt style”. In addition to the great wings their is a large selection of craft brew beer on tap. The combination of cold beer on tap and awesome wings makes this Taverne a must visit. To be fair I have only been there a few times and always get wings. But they also have a pretty extensive dinner menu so a lot of folks come to enjoy the casual atmosphere and dining experience. I may have to try that next time I’m in town.......naa, who am I kidding, I’m just in it for the dirt wings!

This historic large eating establishment is always packed to the brim with diners, no matter the day or the time. Superior customer service, exceptionally prepared time - honored dishes, ample variety and a quaint venerable setting all make J. Timothy’s the successful restaurant it has been for so very long Walter our waiter was everything you could want in a waiter—Polite, engaging, speedy, and quick to suggest alterations to the menu in order to accommodate guest preferences. Spot on with a smile As always the food was fresh, prepared to individual tastes with something for every pallet. Our group did a great job at sampling a wide variety Of the well-known offerings; we tried the famous dirty wings with teriyaki sauce and stand ready to support the notion that they are worth the hype. We dove into the curiously odd tater tot’s with poutine, tender tots with crispy/crunchy casings all smothered in a rich savory brown gravy and cheese curds— just wow!!! My daughter had the fried mozzarella with a pesto/tomato topping—Yes as delicious as it sounds, and which she only grudgingly shared with the rest of us. The French dip tastefully featured tender roast beef nestled between garlic bread baguettes and accented with melted cheese—Great combo, impressive to the last dip. My sons Cuban sandwich minus the pickles Received raves, with extra points given for the hardy bread that held in all of that tender meat so well. Walter came up with a suitable alteration to the J Timothy’s version of mac & cheese with a Gorgonzola base topped with buffalo wing tenders and broccoli for my daughter’s less adventurous taste buds— She was greatly pleased with her tasty alternative. My friend and I, already satisfied by the appetizers decided to share the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich on a brioche bun with a house slightly tangy sauce with a pickled relish, onions lettuce and tomato— the unique combination of flavors made this house favorite a very memorable positive experience with the fried onion strings a perfect companion to the side. We each had a small cup of soup—My cup contained the thickest creamiest clam chowder packed with juicy clams and potatoes while my friend heartedly enjoyed her rich, stand-out cheddar ale soup. Full and suitably impressed, we still manage to share the Keylime pie ice cream sandwich. As cool and creamy as the ice cream was, it still packed that tart punch of the key lime quite effectively. It was so tasty we had to order another one Following this Sumptuous meal, Walter gave us a tour of this Beautiful tavern originally built in the 1700s. Dinner and a show!!! Five stars and then some

We had such a fabulous time. I had never been to this well known restaurant and honestly was not feeling well and didn’t want to go. We take a very special young man out for his birthday every year and so I couldn’t bow out. When we arrived the wait was over 11/2 hours. I really wanted to leave. I’m so glad we didn’t. We chose to eat in the bar as the wait was less. Carl made our night. He was so amazing and so helpful. I had many questions being unfamiliar with the menu and he was so knowledgeable and patiently answered everything recommending the perfect wings. My favorite soup is French onion an so many times I am disappointed. Carl assured me he eats it himself and it was great. He was right. the broth was deliciously beefy but not heavy or salty. The cheese was melted to perfection. I highly recommend it. We had dirt wings that were mild. They are a house speciality crispy but not greas. on Carl’s recommendation I also ordered a pumpkin pie martini which was so smooth and tasted just like pie. They have an extensive beer menu and my husband was very happy with Carl's pick. He really made our evening and we will be back. Parking is free but they do not accept reservation so go early and enjoy.

I came here with a group of people to celebrate a friend's birthday. There was a big parking lot but the place was pretty busy so we were happy to get spots so close. We had a group of 12 and the place did a good job of catering to our large party. The inside is cool with an old tavern kind of feel. The wait staff are all very friendly and quick to help folks at the table as well. The wings were good, fried and cooked perfectly. However I don't like how even with a large order (over 10 wings) that you can split the sauce types. However despite that it was all great and the group had a good time. I'd recommend a visit in if you've never had it for their wings.

We went here to try the wings, and they did not disappoint. There signature sauce is what we had, it had a little bite to it but was delicious. We also had their ribs which were delicious. This place is very busy, but it is also very big, can serve a lot of people. We look forward to visiting again.

Greeted and seated quickly for a Friday night. Our server Kendra was top notch and made some great recommendations. Short rib entree was delicious, burgers were solid and cooked to order. Poutine tots should be a must appetizer for everyone. Wings, as always, set the bar for others to follow. Thanks Kendra!

Visited for the first time over the weekend. We were a party of 6 and sat inside. My first time at indoor dining since COVID, but tables were nicely spaced and all safe protocols followed. Though the menu has been modified during these times, there are still many excellent offerings. I personally had the chicken tostada and it was huge! I took half of it home. It was filled with black beans, chicken, cheese, atop nice salad greens and included crunchy tortilla strips. Those in our party that had sandwiches took half home. The Cuban looked awesome, and my husbands Reuben was top notch! Sandwiches come with a choice of fries, cole slaw or yummy onion straws. Those in our party that had burgers mentioned that the meat was of excellent quality, and were happy with their choices. I understand that this tavern is noted for its wings. Sadly we did not order but maybe next time. Service was professional and attentive.

I believe my title says it all. Most people will be pleased and happy to return. Our party had a reservation and seated promptly. Cocktails were good, though not their strong point. We all had different entrees; mine was the meatloaf and my husband had a burger. Our plates were overflowing. A specialty is wings and though none of us tried them, we saw many orders go by. The restaurant was easy to maneuver and bathrooms were clean. Our server went the extra mile to accommodate special requests. I would recommend and happily return.

The wings are some of the best have had. I've been going here at least once a year after a friend's recommendation even if it takes me an hour to get there. Believe the hype, its a tradition among my friends now to eat at J tims.

This restaurant was recommended by a few girls in Dick Blick's. We needed somewhere close by for lunch and didn't know the area. Food and waitstaff were very good but a little pricey for lunch. Place was clean and hostess was friendly.

I had been hearing about their chicken wings for years but hadn't tried until now. They were amazing-fresh, juicy and the sauce was good also. I had a delicious fall pumpkin drink. For dinner I had the delicious chicken pot pie. The service was great. On a Saturday night we got in no wait although the place was packed so that was great. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. It's nice they have tv's upstairs as well so the area seems just as lively as downstairs.
