The holy trinity of New Haven Pizza- Sally’s, Pepe’s, and Modern, all in one night. ( Photos in order of review). Started at Modern w the traditional cheese pie. Looked more NY style crust, which I prefer, and great cheese and sauce. I would’ve preferred a bit more char and could do without the corn starch bottom. Still a solid pie. Since we had to wait an hour to get into Sally’s, we took a stroll down Wooster Street to Pepe’s. After 15 minutes sat at Table 1 and ordered the world renown clam pie and the summer special Fresh tomato pie. Both were fantastic! True New Haven charred crust. This location is way better than any other Pepe’s location. As we finished up, we got the “your table is ready” text from Sally’s. We ordered a half old fashioned/half traditional cheese pie and a veggie pie. Veggie pie was good, but no ricotta base so a little dry. However, the old fashioned had great sauce, but could’ve used a bit more pecorino. The cheese pie was excellent, and the crust was perfect! Definitely the best cheese pie of the night. Only took me 20 years to get this done but it was worth the wait.

Definitely worth a try. Delicious thin and crispy crust. I really like their clam pizza. The garlic with it is so good. I also recommend their sausage.

Really really well prepared pizzas and small plates. interesting combinations of ingredients. Love the menu, pleasant, informal setting, Services helpful and atentive, despite a really busy sSaturday dinner crowd. Try the goat cheese target!
