We shared the squid appetizer which was delicious and ample. Squid was tender and well seasoned, in a cool, mild, well seasoned broth with strips of red pepper and crunchy peanuts. Dunk the terrific bread to sop up all the juices. My burger was sensational (came highly recommended by our enthusiastic waitress) , tender beef with gooey cheesy mushroom topping. The fish and chips were well prepared and the portion so generous we will finish it for dinner!

Seven of us arrived on a Saturday evening (2/1) for dinner. Drinks were served quickly by a very efficient bar staff- some great bar specials, including a great tasting local IPA and some good wines. The place was busy but the staff managed to get us a table after a brief wait. Our server, Katie W. was very pleasant, engaging, and on top of her game. We ordered a couple of appetizers - the mussels were really flavorful and the brussell sprouts were prepared in a pretty imaginative manner. Everybody was satisfied with our main courses - I thought my fish and chips tasted fine but felt the fish was smothered by too thick a coating of bread crumbs. In all, the menu was bar food with an imaginative extra that moved it up a notch. The service was great and the prices were reasonable. I would go back again.

We came for lunch on a holiday weekend. There were no tables available, but we were able to snag two seats at the bar. We had the homemade jerky which I believe was a special and the scallops on a bed of grits. Both were very tasty. DH followed up with the green chili pork burger which also was very good. I had the farm greens for a side, which turned out to be a salad - I'd been expecting cooked greens. Nice selection of beers - we tried two different IPAs. The bartender was great at both being a waiter and telling our next door neighbor about all the nuances of the bourbon.

Expected a bit more service wise out of this place. We waited over 40 minutes for a table and I didn't see anyone else waiting. They eventually decided to put 2 hightops together in the bar area and we were seated. Took another 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge we were there. We ordered drinks and then watched them sit at the bar while the server walked by them and forgot about them. We asked the waiter how big the kids mac n cheese was, he said about so big making a size with his hands. He said the adult one is bigger. We questioned, there is an adult one? its not on the menu, he said yes. We ordered that and then the mac n cheese that came out was the size of what he said the kids one was. Turns out it was the appetizer mac n cheese. Nothing drastic here just thought the level of service would have been higher especially for the prices. The food and drinks were good but if you feel like you are being forgotten about whats the point.

How disappointing! Now, what self respecting, well run restaurant runs out of their signature dish on a Memorial Day Monday at 6:30 pm? I've been wanting to sample their fried chicken since we moved here 9 months ago and finally got the chance yesterday and sure enough after ordering our cocktails, we were informed the one the one thing I came in for was the one thing they were out of! Oh well, ordered fish & chips for $22 dollars instead and enjoyed the modern but rustic vibe. The Nashville dry rub hot wings were good and spicy but came with only 8 wing, 4 drums and 4 tiny winglets for $12 bucks, hardly sufficient and served without any individual side plates. Kinda weird puttin' your eaten wings back in the same bowl with the uneaten ones.....just sayin'. My Fish was meaty and tasty, not greasy and mostly breading but served like these large hush puppies fish balls instead of fillets. Strange. The fries were way over salted and barely warm and the cole slaw just terrible! Cole slaw, how can you mess up coleslaw? Tasted bland, soggy and tired like it was three days old and scooped from the bottom of a 5 gallon plastic bucket. My partner had the grass fed burger for $18 which looked like a McDonalds burger in appearance on a uninspired bun and tasted run of the mill although the goat cheese was a tangy addition. Ditto for the coleslaw and french fries. He got the macaroni salad as his side dish. Here we go again! How can you mess up macaroni salad? Maybe it's because I am from New Orleans and lived in Macaroni Salad Heaven Hawaii but this aint right folks! Add a little carrots, onions, celery, mustard, shallots, pimiento, ham, whatever and not just a little mayonnaise and celery salt for heaven's sake. We declined deserts after such a listless meal and waited a while for the plates to finally be cleared by waitress Lydia. Eventually she brought the bill and waited some more until I caught her eye as she was gabbing with the receptionist, she quickly returned with receipt for me to sign but left no pen......well, let me get up and go hunt one down. This Excellent Engine Room adventure cost us over $85 with tip. I was hoping to find a good upscale southern restaurant nearby and figured, hey, I could always just come back another time to try their signature fried chicken since they were "out of it" this night but now that ain't ever gonna happen and makes me question all of the other sister restaurants like the Oyster Club, Grass & Bone, and Nana's Bakery & Pizza.

We asked the hostesses if they could accommodate gluten and dairy allergies and they said absolutely. Once we got our table and saw the menu we realized there wasn't much. When I asked if they had non dairy options for milk I was told they had regular and two percent. When I asked if they used dairy in their eggs I was told that they didn't use milk they used heavy cream. I understand it is hard to have a lot of options for a relatively small segment of your customers but the waitress did not seem to understand that this is a legitimate allergy to gluten and dairy not just a preference. If you don't have these restrictions the place is great, but if you do, find another restaurant - there are plenty of great ones in Mystic.

We dined at the Engine Room in mid-March as a family. The menu was wide and varied, with something for each member of a family of 4. As appetizers, we ordered steamed mussels and Carolina hush puppies, which were both tasty and plentiful. Our main courses included one Hot Fire Burger, two orders of Spaghetti Bolognese, and a kids chicken tenders. Each main course was tasty and a good portion. Our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Another positive was the restaurants' compliance with Covid-19 regulations. All staff members wore masks, and customers were required to wear one until seated. All tables were spaced apart, and the bar had dividers placed between guests. We highly recommend this restaurant and plan on returning in the future.

My daughter and I took a trip to Mystic for the weekend and this was our first stop. We had the Blueberry Vanilla Cornflake shake, Pulled Pork sandwich, and Mushroom Mae Burger... The burger was the best I have ever had, filled with mushrooms, cheese and an aioli sauce to die for. Fries were handcut and fresh and the Pulled Pork was spicy and sweet. Highly recommend!!!

I don't mind waiting for a table, so no complaint there. After we ordered our food we waited just over 50 min before the food was brought out. Some was hot, done was just warm. The Mac and cheese has a good flavor but the burger was extremely greasy and the chipotle chicken was ok. Nothing we tried was worth the waiting times. It's average flavors and quality. Service was pretty poor on this visit but I do not judge a location on service.

Awesome service! Seated before designated wait time and our waitress (Morgan) was super attentive and friendly. I wanted to substitute a different dressing for my salad and she made sure I was happy with the substitution and offered to get me something different if I wasn’t happy. Food was delicious! Did take quite a while to come out, but it was well worth the wait. Been here twice this weekend and will be back again!

After walking about the small downtown and checking out the distinctive homes, pretty flowers and restaurant menus, we decided to have lunch here. The large patio was busy and we spotted a shaded table under the Black Locust tree. We were seated immediately with menus and a nice young waiter, Matt, soon took our order. We used the clean indoor restrooms, spotting the old plexiglassed Red Engine inside near the spacious bar area. My Guinness Stout was waiting and our meal soon arrived, a generous portion of Mussels and a split Fish and Chips with "salty" fries. All delicious, most filling and with attentive service for $50 with tip, using my card.

Came in with a buddy I hadn't seen for 7 years after some friends had warned me of the bad service but thought I would still give it a go. What a let down! My buddy and I we're catching up and sitting in the loud bar area and tapping on the bar and the bar tender asked us to stop. We did but tapped on the bar a few minutes later as we were excited and catching up and was asked to leave. Very rude considering the place is a bar setting and very loud. We also had the summer burger and blt. Summer burger was tiny and over cooked and the BLT was also served on burnt toast. It is a bar setting restaurant yet they feel like they are are fine dinning establishment! To spend 100 plus bucks and get yelled at is quite sad. Should of took my friends advice.....

Personally I've had more burgers in my life than my arteries would like. That being said. My wife and I went in there for lunch. We sat at the bar. We each ordered a burger. I don't remember the name mine was given but it did have mushrooms and blue cheese on it. It was a little smaller than I would have liked. But... it was delicious. It was definitely the best tasting burger that I have ever had. My wife felt the same about hers. The beer was a little pricey for 10 to 16 oz drafts. Once again. GREAT tasting burger!
