We were in Mystic this past week and thought we would try happy hour at Chapter One. They had $2 draft beers, house wines for $5 a glass, and an assortment of appetizers for good prices. We opted for the mussels with fra diavolo sauce. We were not disappointed. They were perfect with just a touch of spice without being too hot. I actually wasn't planning to write a review as we just stopped for happy hour. However I have to say the two gentlemen that served and greeted us while we were there were the BEST. So refreshing to meet such nice people, who know how to make you feel welcome. This restaurant is very fortunate to have both of them. If we ever return to Mystic again, we will definitely stop by.

My husband and I celebrated our last night of our "mini moon" by having dinner at Chapter One. We asked for a table by the window so we could people watch and have a breeze. We were accomodated with no questions asked! Upon arrival, we checked in, were seated and met the amazing bartender, and server, John! He was enthusiastic, knowledgeable of all of the food on the menu, attentive to us even though the restaurant and bar were busy and was patient with my gluten free questions and appointed menu items.
After we ordered, there was a mishap in the kitchen where my "gluten free" penne was not available and so I was given linguini (not gluten free) and I was so wrapped up in eating it and John IMMEDIATELY noticed it, caught it and said, "this is not gluten free" and saved me!
He apologized, brought it back to the kitchen and offered up other suggestions. He suggested a dish that I ended up liking even more and we appreciated his attentiveness and the way he just resolved and handled the situation.
To top it off, he surprised us with a free dessert to celebrate our marriage! He was lovely. The atmosphere was lovely. We definitely want to come back and we will ask for him!

We were looking forward to trying a new restaurant in our area and chose this restaurant because we had heard a lot of good things about it. Unfortunately we were pretty underwhelmed. I got the salad with the goat cheese and cranberries with steak- it didn't come with any dressing and I wasn't going to send my husband back there to get the dressing. It was just ok, nothing spectacular, and the meat was cold. My husband got the filet mignon- it had barely any flavor, was cold, and again nothing special. The mashed potatoes it came with were pretty tasty. My son got the lobster roll and "chapter" fries. The lobster roll was pretty good (and we're pretty critical of lobster rolls) but the fries were cold, and mushy. I didn't see how they were supposed to be special fries. To be fair, this was takeout, but we live about 5 minutes from downtown Mystic and have gotten takeout from other places in the area and our food is never usually stone cold when we get it home. We also go the pesto bruschetta and it was just ok. Lastly, I got the white sangria which was supposed to come in a mason jar but it was in a plastic cup with a top and was jam packed with ice. We were pretty disappointed that we didn't like pretty much anything we got. We really wanted to like it!

A spot became available at the bar this past weekend during brunch and we quickly took it as it was difficult to get in everywhere. The bartender quickly came over and asked what I’d like to drink and she made me a fantastic Bloody Mary. My husband joined and at first asked for an Irish coffee, but, then decided on just a coffee which she brought over with cream already added and some sugar packets. A little odd because he didn’t ask for cream, but, didn’t say anything because he takes cream anyway.
I saw the Chapter 10 Benedict for $25 and ordered mine with lobster. My husband ordered the steak and eggs. The food was delivered and the runner noticed we had no silverware. The bartender told her that she didn’t have any back there…the runner went up front to get silverware for us. The food was decent, but, definitely nothing to write home about. There was just a little bit of lobster that had been over sautéed so it was tough, English muffin not even toasted. Eggs were perfect and home fries were yummy. My husband’s steak was sliced super thin and fatty and scrambled eggs were over cooked.
We finished up and I asked for an ice water and the check. The bartender promptly brought my water, but, not the check. We were now the only ones at the bar and she completely disappeared for about 10 minutes. This was a bit irritating to me because I was finished and I just wanted to leave. When she brought the check, my meal was listed as $38. I brought this to her attention to which she responded that there must be an up charge for the lobster. I stated that the menu didn’t say that and she confirmed it on the computer that it was indeed an up charge. She offered to get the manager and I asked to see the menu once again to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I looked at the menu and there was a worn out sticker with some faint handwriting on it that was barely legible. She insisted on getting the manager and I agreed because if I had known, I never would’ve ordered it as it certainly was not work that much.
The manager was super nice and stated that the bartender should have told me about the upcharge but she didn’t and she offered to take 25% off. I agreed that was fair.
For a restaurant as “upscale” as Chapter 10, there are a few things I expect: 1. Ice water whether I ask for it or not 2. Silverware 3. To at least be checked on - asked if there’s anything else I need? And 4. To have the only bartender NOT disappear for any amount of time. Oh and 5. Charging $15 for a Bloody Mary with Tito’s?? No…just no. Glad I didn’t order another.

Chapter One is a cozy venue in the center of Mystic. Now for the food. We shared a platter of little neck clams that were fresh and perfectly shucked. My seared yellow tuna was full of flavor and served over a mountain of risotto flavored with various ingredients. My wife's scampi and linguini was absolutely delicious. We finished with gelato and sorbet that were also delicious. Were I not living several thousand miles away I would be a regular.

We had waited for a booking for a long time and we were bringing our 14 year old son as a treat as he really appreciates good food. We had the tasting menu and the food was very good overall. Our table for three was not well positioned or comfortable and was between two doorways and too tight to serve food to my son without bumping into another seat several times. Only one person was having a drink and was told not to have the half bottle of wine as it was not good (why is it on the wine list??). Found the selling of extras too much and would expect a cheese course in a tasting menus. Some great highlights with the fish ingredients to include the oyster canapé and scallop course. Love food and that part was good so my compliments to the chef

We wanted a place for brunch/lunch and I had explored my choices earlier in the morning. We chose Chapter One for their menu because I wanted French Toast. This one was filled with melted cream cheese and bathed in maple syrup. I could travel back to Mystic just to eat it again. My husband's eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes and toast were just right. Place is a surprise inside -- very large bar as you enter and not that many tables but service and food were great.

We visit Mystic often but this was the first time here. We were very pleasantly surprised that it was "wind down Wednesday" they offered a free bottle of wine with two entrees. And they also had live, easy listening music. The food was very good, hearty portions and they were able to accommodate my wife's food allergies. The night was made even better with the service and conversation with out waitress, Michele. A shout out to the manager, Shirley, for shifting table for us.

Great find while visiting the main streets of mystic. We were downtown and looking for a place for a good sandwich for lunch. Did not disappoint!! Amazing BLTC (cucumber) wrap, husband has the pastrami sandwich as the prices might seem a little steep for some, you get what you pay for. This is more of a high end restaurant n downtown mystic and was worth every penny. The truffle fries were out of this world! Waitstaff was super. Our waiter was Trevor was fantastic! Highly recommend. Hugh top tables great atmosphere!

Stopped in for lunch. Wait staff attentive and friendly. Even the manager was busing tables, bringing food and chatted for a moment. Cocktails were great and food was tasty and soups came out hot. Would gladly stop in again.

The atmosphere is pleasant and offers a streetside view of the ambiance along W Main Street in Mystic, CT.
The appetizer was great. We ordered Devils on Horseback, a date filled wonder.
The main dishes were just okay. Scallop Risotto and Chapter One Bolognese..The scallops were raw. Some people enjoy eating them straight out of the ocean like that, but we would have preferred them cooked; even a little bit. They did have the outer 1/10th of a millimeter seared, but the rest was very undercooked.
It was difficult to savor the meat in the Bolognese due to the amount of pasta served with it.
The cheesecakes were exceptional.
The experience was average and the price was well above that.
Maybe we ventured in on the wrong day. Who knows.

We were walking around downtown Mystic and we wanted a place to grab a quick bite. It wasn’t necessarily lunchtime but we stopped in and ate at the bar. My girlfriend was in the mood for breakfast but I was not. She had 2 eggs, sunny side up with sausage and wheat toast. I had a grilled chicken salad. My salad was such a large portion and the grilled chicken was the perfect topping! It was the perfect meal to start our day.

My husband and I had dinner there last night. The service was amazing! Our server, Cara- really took great care of us. I have Celiac disease and she communicated with the kitchen to ensure I had a safe gluten free meal. She went above and beyond, was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed ourselves very much and will be back!!

I really enjoyed my drink and my daughter enjoyed her salmon. The scallops were really good but the risotto tasted like someone had just tossed in a jar of tomato sauce. Over all, it was fine but no place I would go back to.

Great service and good drinks! My meal was very good - I got the yellowfin tuna and it was cooked really well. We got the Thai chili calamari which was excellent. My husband was a bit underwhelmed with the roasted haddock - it was flavorful, but the baked potato side left something to be desired. Our waiter was excellent and very attentive! Overall a good experience. Will accommodate kids, although it was a little tough where we were with a car seat.
