Had a delicious Dosa lunch treat here. It was perfectly crunchy, light, crisp, superb. We hope to return monthly. Udupi is a very casual , self-service counter order place in a small strip mall.

My son's favorite Middletown restaurant. Unpretentious, no frills but wonderful south Indian food. We always leave full with tons of leftovers. Definitely recommend.

Don’t be fooled by the generic appearance of this place... it’s an understated gem. Judging from the many Indian patrons, I’m guessing it’s pretty authentic. Judging from our tastebuds, it’s unfailingly fabulous! Ingredients are fresh and expertly balanced. I am not a vegetarian, but happily frequent this vegetarian restaurant as often as I get a chance!

Misleading ingredients on menu. Called restauraunt to complain after an allergic reaction, they responded that we should have said we had allergies. The description on the menu did not mention that the palak paneer is made with cashews.

We have a number of places to choose from around here....this place is SO GOOD! The breads are amazing, including options without gluten flours..... everything is made fresh, and hot! This is definitely our restaurant of choice for fresh and amazing food at a great price. The servings are large, and I always have enough to take home for a snack later. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

i would never recommend any body to visit UDIPI at 749 Saybrook Rd, 104, Middletown, CT, the most taste less food they serve. the sambar is mixed with 3/4 Water, the rock solid idiy like a stone and the staff is like too careless, i have visited this place 2 time and both the times i have trashed everything i ordered idly and onion Dosa .please please pretty please dont get disappointed and wasting your money, if you expect to eat something good find another tiffin center but im saying true dont waste your money in UDIPI.

I find the staff very helpful in explaining what everything is. I had the days Thali special and it was enough for two people. Different variety of rices, breads are included along with mini soup and other dishes. Nice and bright surroundings too

Plenty of wait staff, friendly, and very helpful. You can have the food as hot as you want it. Will return in the near future.

Unlike many of the other Indian eateries in the area, Udupi Bhavan truly presents food from both South and North India. Typically it is only North Indian food that is represented in Indian restaurants across the state. The atmosphere itself is also unique given the close-nit, pay before you eat model. Personally, I find the environment more connecting and open as compared to a traditional sit down restaurant. You do you feel a special ambiance here. Prices are reasonable and both the North Indian (Paneer dishes) and South Indian food (Dosas) are delicious and properly portioned. I have been coming here for over ten years and have never been disappointed with Udupi Bhavan. Definitely recommend. On a side note, be aware that on any major holiday (i.e. New Years) there will be large crowds and seating might be limited. This is attributed to the fact that many of the regulars here also attend the nearby Temple.

The restaurant is simple without much atmosphere; no frills. The pull is the delicious vegan yummy variety. The Masala Dosa is wonderful, in fact, all the Dosas are great. The breads, curries, and house specials are all genuinely worth a try. We didn't care for the desserts or drinks, but pitchers of water are available for the taking.

This restaurants had decent food with big portions but the atmosphere was not what I expected. Upon arrival, I ordered my food including that I wanted 2 lassis.Within this time the waitstaff did not make it clear you had to serve yourself beverages. We only found this out when other regular costumers were serving themselves. You even have to pick out your own pitcher. The silverware was also serve your self and plastic. On to the food, best lassis I ever had (when I finally got them) and the dosi were pretty good. Only thing is that they could've spread out the filling more. Portions are huge one order of dosa is enough for 2 people (or 1 really big eater). If the atmosphere had been better this would probably be a 4.5 star.

My sister had previously visited and since going I'm glad she made the recommendation. We received a warm welcome upon entering. Whatever is lacking in ambience is made up for in food (both quality & timeliness), cleanliness, and overall friendliness of the staff. True to other comments, it is somewhat self service-(you get your own drinks and get food when number is called). Also, there is no alcohol. It has a nice sense of community and definite local vibe. Overall, a pleasant experience - will be back next time I'm in the area.

It has zero atmosphere and no frills, the food, however, is superlative and freshly made. I recommend their paneer and their unusual bread selection. We look forward to dining there again soon.

Udupi Bhavan serves amazing South Indian vegetarian food, so don't come expecting typical Indian fare served elsewhere--some of the dishes are similar but the flavors are definitely different. This is a no frills, utilitarian, simple place in terms of ambiance but the food is delicious. It's vegetarian only, and they don't accept American Express.
