This Indian restaurant is a welcome addition to the Mansfield Center area. The food itself is really good and is conveniently located along Storrs Rd., halfway between Willimantic and the UConn Storrs campus. We liked the vegetable biryani, chicken tikka, aloo gobi, and lamb bhuna. The garlic naan is also really good. The staff are really friendly and were willing to accommodate special requests. I've eaten here before the pandemic, and they didn't rush us out.

I ate here as a solo business traveller, and the food was very good with one exception. Chana masala was excellent, more interesting spice and a little hoteer for tthe requested medium than I have had at some US Indian restaurants -- it was really good, as was the basmati rice that went with it. It was also a very large portion, and in a takeaway box was plenty for two dinners. The garlic naan had been reheated and was not fresh. There's a Wednesday buffet, and there is more goat than usual on a US Indian menu, for people who like it (I do but didn't order it this time). Takeout orders went out briskly the night I was there, and they advertise DoorDash. Parking is ample, service is good, prices are more than reasonable, and there is a nice beer and wine selection. I'd come back.

We've been going to Maharaja (or taking out) its Indian food since the week it opened years ago. That first week we loved it. Then after a few months is was disappointing; then it got very good again, and has recently pretty much settled into mediocrity. My guess is that there has been a string of cooks of different levels of skill. The Aloo Gobi used to be in a delicious thick brown sauce: now its cauliflower and potatoes with a thin veneer of hard-to-taste sauce. Papadam appetizer and sauces are nice. The naan is excellent. Most dishes are $14-$16, so expect to pay $60 for two people, with wine, naan, taxes, and tip. Portions are generous. The owners also run Kathmandu in Storrs, CT.

Abysmal customer service. Their website indicates that take away food is ready 15-20 mins after an order is placed. I could sense confusion upon arrival to pick up my food, as there was no record of my order. I showed them my phone with the order details and he whisked into the back assuring me the order would be fulfilled within 10 mins. 25 mins later the food was presented to me. I drove 25 mins home to discover a $15 meal was not present and called them immediately. Whoever I spoke to did not apologise and said I could drive back to pick the Korma up. I expressed that I’d prefer a refund as it’s ~1 hour away. He responded by saying he couldn’t help and I would have to speak to the company (I thought I was speaking to the company...). He then hung up without saying goodbye or apologising. I rang back and another person answered who relayed the same info and hung up on me whilst I was speaking. I can’t recommend this place due to the amount of time I’ve wasted to date and not received my refund.

Read the reviews and decided to try the place. Made a reservation for 5 in the afternoon. When we arrived- no one was around. After waiting for a few minutes a person came out of the back and seated us. I never mentioned our reservation and was never asked about it either. Since the place was empty I did wonder why I had even made one. Menus were given out and the man vanished. He returned a few minutes later with water, some cracker like sheets and three sauces to try then left without telling us what each sauce was. Only when he came back for our order and we asked what each was did he tell us. I'm not really one to try an unknown sauce which might be hot. We ordered, he took our order and without even a thank you- off he went. We ordered Chicken Pakora for an appetizer, Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikki Masala and two kinds of Naan. The portion of Chicken Pakora was large and tasty- except for some unedible gristle on some of the pieces. When our main courses came out, he merely put them on the table and again, with nothing said, walked away. We were still the only people in the place. Both of our main courses were large and tasty. However, again some of the pieces of chicken had gristle. The two types of Naan, one plain and the other with garlic were warm and large. Once we were done, with leftovers, he merely came over then went and gave us plastic containers to wrap up our own leftovers. He never asked us about dessert. The bill was fine and off we went. As we were leaving, another two people walked in and since he had again vanished, they seated themselves. Will we go back? Not sure but leaning toward maybe just getting takeout if anything.

Stopped off on a Sunday afternoon for the buffet, but unfortunately there were only two items on the table! What I ate was very good, but usually there are a lot more choices. Maybe because it was late,. but it was empty and no one apologized for so little choice.

I have only been here for dinners so can't rate the buffet but the atmosphere is nice and as soon as you walk through the door the aromas hit you. The food is wonderful with many choices including vegetarian. Their breads are the best I have had, the Peshwari Naan is a must get. Their portions are very generous you will probably leave with doggie bags and the prices are reasonable. This is a little hidden gem, great for families or date night. They now serve beer and wine too.

I'm not an expert in Indian Food, but I really like it. Alas, my husband does not. So I only go when he's out of town or when I'm with a friend. This was my second trip to Maharaja in Mansfield Center, and I was brave enough to go solo! Both times I've had the buffet, and it's been excellent each time. The dish I liked best tonight was Nay-Rattan Korma. I've never had it before. It had a mild creamy yellow sauce with green beans and peas in it. Their saag paneer (cheese chunks with spinach sauce) was wonderful, too. The Tandoor chicken was cooked just right: some places dry it out. I'm not really sure what you're supposed to do with the sauces that come by themselves but I dipped cucumber slices and naan bread in them. One was yogurt based (great w/cucumber), one was green (said mint on label) and one was slightly sweet and fruity. Overall, everything was fresh, the place is pretty and clean and the staff is very friendly. And for me, a buffet that's labeled is a great way to try out new dishes :)

Generous portions, bold flavors, and if you like to spice up a little, then you can try this restaurant. The dhal soup is thick and has a strong lemon sour taste mixed with cumin and coriander. The baingan bartha is as good as you will get it in any Indian house, and carry a nice smokiness. If you like meat then order the goat madras. The meat is nicely cooked in a tangy tomato garlicky sauce. Overall a meal that didn't disappoints.

If you go to a authentic Indian resturant frist thing you smell as you enter are the toasted spices, NOT here. Went for the buffet, very sparse to start with. Very few choices, worst yet everthing tasted the same. AT 12:20 pm 5 people in the resturant including us, by the time we left 2 more came in. Should have give us a hint. Yes it is cheap but you get what you pay for. There were several fleas in the place and as we were leaving noticed ants in the sugar bowl. Son and wife used to go often, had not been there for a year, said it used to be good. Not nay more

I took my grandson, who is a connoisseur of Chicken Tikka Marsala, and he pronounced this dish "really good"! I loved my okra and he ate most of the naan! We brought containers of both main dishes home--every table was doing the same as the portions are generous. The pappadoms and condiments were also delicious. The server was super friendly and our dishes arrived really quickly. A delightful dinner!

The buffet is awesome- lots of choices-You get to sample at least six entrees off the menu- at least three vegetarian, and it changes every day. The food is not greasy or "heavy' and seasoned just right. The ambiance is wonderful. Don't forget that the waiters who clear your table, bring water and hot sauce and are right there if you need anything, depend on tips in this country. .Please tip, even at a buffet.

Indian food is comfort food really. If you haven't tried it before, the Maharaja has an excellent buffet. I took my 10 year old and he loved it.
