This place is a true authentic Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere is authentic, the food is authentic, everything is truly authentic. If you go to your local chain Mexican restaurant you are not getting authentic Mexican food... you are getting Americanized Mexican food. If you decide to pay a visit to El Nuevo Sarape Restaurant (which you definitely should) you will... More

This excellent Mexican Restaurant lives up to its wonderful reviews. You really can't go wrong! And very reasonably priced. I have been going here for years. Love the tacos, but really everything is good.

This is a no frills super authentic Mexican place on Broad Street in Hartford. The neighborhood is not the best but the food makes it well worth it. They have very limited vegetarian options so if you aren't a meat eater you might be disappointed but you can still get a quesadilla or guac. Their tacos are amazing!

Even ordering it, you might want to speak Spanish. It is very small and not fancy at all but food is great. The area is not great, so you want to go in daytime.

An inauspicious location and decor.... more like a "dive" --- but very special food. I always have the Chili Rellenos. Never been disappointed. large portions. Family run,. Nice people. Highly recommend if it's the food you are after. None of the Tex-Mex chain stuff. Just excellent true Mexican food.

We found Sarape on Yelp (sorry T-Advisor...) and had a great lunch. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy (you can buy other "things" on most of the corners nearby, but it is near Trinity College and has fenced off-street parking. Food was great. Green chile sauce for enchiladas was amazing. Mole sauce also excellent. Very nice and attentive service.

Just amazing, straight-ahead, down-home Mexican food. You want a tamale with sweet, soft corn and tangy mole chicken or a satisfying carne asada taco on a pair of grilled tortillas with cilantro and onion, come here. In fact, this is some of the best food in Hartford, period.
