Our group enjoyed a delightful evening sampling the chef's offerings and the wine pairings--lots of flavors, sensations, varieties--and served efficiently and delightfully by a great staff.

The food is always good & the service is stellar, but I was suspicious of the recent renovation, but it looks great!

We went to check out the refurbishment and honestly didn't notice drastic difference. Still classic and lovely. But the menu did seem different and the food was delicious! The chowder stuffed clams, crab cocktail, cauliflower salad and raw bar got high marks. The green goddess...More

The food and drinks were VERY expensive but both were very pore quality. the service was slow. Just an overall bad. I would much rater go to other restaurants in the city with better value and much better food.

Night out on the town. No tables available and pretty abrasive about it. Service industry has a standard.

I agree with the prior answers - not really romantic but not unromantic either. Relatively fancy. Good food. Pricey - especially the wine list

The crown jewel of the Hartford, Connecticut dining scene, Max Downtown has been serving its guests for over 21 years and remains a fan favorite. After a top-to-bottom renovation in the summer of 2017, the restaurant has never looked (or tasted) better.
