We really liked this place. The food was good, reasonably priced and the service was good. It is easy to find and parking is adequate.

The menu offers many choices. Alcohol is served. Has many pictures from the movie and one of John Wayne's hats.

This place has friendly staff, good food and tourist appeal. The food is generally better and less expensive than what you will find in the resort town of Ouray a few miles south of Ridgway. Lots of John Wayne and Dennis Weaver memorabilia. If you are in Ouray and looking for a good meal wait until the True Grit!

True Grit in Ridgeway, Colorado is a rustic place to get your country/western on before heading to Telluride. The food was good, homemade food and a great western atmosphere. The prices were fair and was a good place for lunch. The quirkiness of the interior is centered around the movie with John Wayne-True Grit. We stopped in for lunch on a... More

This place is a classic in Ridgway. Really good, homemade food and a great western atmosphere. Prices are fair. Known for a lot of things but you have to try the ranch dressing, believe it or not.

Good place to see the history of ridgeway. Excellent chips and salsa but my hamburger didn't taste good.

Had a great meal....coupled with the friendly service, this is a place I'll keep on my "gotta do it again list!" Not only was the food great, there was a lot of it. Then to top it off our server asked if we were Veterans ( we both are, and my husband was wearing a service-themed t-shirt); so she gave... More

I love True Grit for being a solid, great meal. Prices are good, quality is good, service is good and atmosphere is good. But they don't have Blueberry Pie everyday. That sucks. If in Ridgway, you're gonna eat here. I mean, come on. Where else? So ask for Blueberry. Let's start a movement. I'll see you in March.

Busy, but worth the wait and gives time to soak up all the John Wayne decorations, he'd be proud. They dropped the Rueben (that was a namesake!) and some other stuff but still a wide selection. I had the buffalo burger....was okay but obviously from a frozen patty. Lady had vegetarian chili heaped broccoli, she loved it. I also had... More

Description
Howdy folks! Welcome to the True Grit Cafe Established in 1985, the "Grit" as it is known has been serving hungry tourists and locals for over 25 years. We offer excellent and tasty 'Cowboy Cuisine' in a comfortable western environment with a friendly staff that will make you feel like you're part of the Grit Family. We take a lot of pride in our homemade fare including the best dang chicken fried steak this side of the Rocky Mountains. Other menu specialties include hand-pattied burgers, mouth watering Tex-Mex Specialties, juicy steaks, house made meatloaf, fresh tempura battered mahi mahi fish and chips, sandwiches and gourmet salads. For the vegetarians we offer lots of tasty choices. We are also gluten-free friendly. Our wide selection of liquors, beer and wine give you a great place to gather round with the locals and visitors alike. We have two full bars, one on the main floor and one upstairs, around which locals and visitors gather to chat or share experiences in the beautiful San Juan Mountains. Our remodeled upstairs with its large private booths will accommodate from two to fourteen people, and don't forget the deck overlooking our beautiful park. The True Grit Cafe was built to honor the filming of the academy award winning movie "True Grit" starring John Wayne. Come sit on the deck and look out at the beautiful background you'll see throughout the movie. Oh, and you'll see a lot of pictures of the great star's film legacy all around.
