About
We don't take ourselves too seriously at Jax Fish House. Two things we do take seriously? The freshness and sustainability of our seafood. You know fresh fish when you see, smell, and taste it-and thanks to modern delivery technology, we bring in that freshy-fresh seven days a week. Sustainability is a little more complicated. Not all commercial fisheries are created equal. That's why we work closely with our suppliers and science-based organizations to ensure that every single thing we serve is responsibly sourced. We consider the stocks of the species we source to prevent overfishing and we work with suppliers who harvest in ways that have minimal impacts on marine environments.

My husband and I made reservations for Saturday night after Valentine's Day. Good thing we did! It was busy. But despite being busy service was absolutely stellar. Drinks stayed full. Food came out rather quickly. Staff was friendly, kind, and knowledgeable. Drinks from the bar were good. Fried Calamari appetizer was delicious and honestly the best I've ever had. I ordered the grouper and my husband ordered a bass dish that was a special from V-day. I adored my dish. Every flavor in the dish complimented each other well. My husband's dish was good as well but mine was much better. Additionally, his portion was rather small compared to mine. Sadly, my husband left hungry. It's not like he eats outrageous portions. I eat small portions and if we hadn't ordered an appetizer I likely would have left a tad bit hungry myself. We enjoyed the service, we enjoyed the food, and we totally understand that getting fresh fish to a landlocked state every day must be expensive, but we don't really enjoy spending over a hundred dollars for my husband to walk out still hungry.

Hello Denycia,
I want to reach out and thank you for joining us on what was a very special night to many. Out of all the great choices here in downtown Fort Collins, you and your husband decided on Jax and we appreciate this very much. It looks as though you were well taken care of on a very busy night and that you enjoyed the flavors from every dish. Its unfortunate to hear about the portion sizes of the dishes that were ordered. This can be a challenge at times and will be sure to look into this facet that we fell short on. Hopefully you'll be back in sometime in the future to give us another shot and we look forward to when that time will come.
Sincerely,
Sam Taylor - General Manager

Very tastefully fresh seafood here, especially since I grew up on the East Coast and know what that means. We decided to split the Ice Cold Raw Bar Sampler, and it had enough for the 3 of us as both an appetizer and meal. The oysters were so fresh -- kind of surprised given being in Colorado. We thoroughly enjoyed the crab and shrimp as well. Matt, our server, provided excellent service during our meal. Highly recommend if you want some great seafood in downtown Ft Collins.

Lots of fresh fish and oysters. Service was excellent, drinks were good and inexpensive because they have happy hour. I had the grouper which wasn't the best piece of fish I've had. Others had tuna and bass - tuna looked good as well as the bass. The veggies served with my dish were excellent. I'd go have fish at Jax again.

Hello Daniel!
I'm glad to see that you were able to indulge in our oyster selection that is changed daily based on our daily deliveries of fresh seafood. We always aim to provide the best possible service from start to finish and it looks like you enjoyed what we offered. Its unfortunate to hear that the grouper wasn't as preferable in comparison to our tuna and bass entrees, but do hope that you come back in to give it all another go! We appreciate you letting us know about your time with us and thank you for allowing us the opportunity to serve you and your company.
All the best,

I made a reservation to dine at Jax as it was my wife and my two year anniversary. It was fairly empty so we were accommodated right away. We were one of two couples seated in the secondary room and were seated in the middle of the room directly outside of the kitchen and bathroom. There was no ambiance with guests and staff constantly walking by and bumping the table and/or our arm and stopping to admire the fish tank that we were seated by. There were quite a few open seats around the perimeter but we thought that this might just be what they had to offer. As we ordered drinks and apps to get started other couples began to drift in. Every single other guest(all groups of two as well) were seated along the perimeter out of the way of traffic. We had the worst seat in the restaurant. No worries. We wanted to salvage the experience. Once the apps came (calamari and poke) we were extremely disappointed the Poke dish was primarily rice with almost no poke. The drinks were mediocre and other than our nice waitstaff we felt like the night was not headed in the right direction. After the drinks and overpriced (primarily rice other than calmari) apps we decided to shift gears, cut our losses, and had a great night at The Social -they gave us a card signed by the staff and free drinks- in a wonderful secluded seat with great drinks, food, and ambiance. I would not recommend Jax for a special night unless you are over the age of sixty and thereby seem to get a different experience and seating whether you had a reservation or not.

Hello,
I want to thank you for letting us know about your recent experience with us here at Jax. We never want to make for a bad experience and am so sorry that this was the case as soon as you were sat an unfavored table. Requests for certain tables are always in high demand and we failed to acknowledge this being an important aspect of your evening. I will be sure to work with our chef in regards to the poke appetizer. We portion out the tuna for that dish to a certain weight and I would personally agree that there is never enough tuna in that dish and I always want more because I think its so good! I'm glad to see that your night was not lost altogether. Social does a great job at what they do for their location/concept. I truly hope you might give us another shot in the future; just not when you're over the age of 60! Please let me know when that might happen as I would personally like to make sure you're well taken care of.
All the best,
Sam Taylor - General Manager

The salmon was a small thin square thus quite dry and much too salty (as were the vegetables on the plate). The $45 seafood special was good, but half the shrimp were completely dried up and tasteless whilst the other half of the shrimp tasted moist and delicious. The andoulli sausage was overcooked and dry as well; like rubber with spices. Usually collard greens are delicious, but the bottom half of the bowl was filled with vinegar, so bottom half was awful. The decaf was the weakest I've had at a fine restaurant so much so that I couldn't drink it. I think we just hit it wrong on this Sunday night. The cup of New England Clam Chowder, the Happy Hour oysters, the snow crab and the Coin Margarita were fabulous! Overall, just disappointed enough to publish this review. If this is the 9th best restaurant in Fort Collins, that's pretty sad based on our one and only visit.

Hello,
I want to reach out and thank you for the time taken to come join us this past Sunday. Though its very unfortunate to see that your experience here at Jax didn't quite meet your expectations and could have been substantially better based on the aforementioned facets of which detracted from your time with us. These facets will certainly be looked into and am gracious for you to have given your feedback so as to improve on any potential future visits you or anyone else. Please let me know how I might be able to further get in touch with you with the hope of hearing any other details about your recent visit.
Sincerely,

In short, I met a family member for happy hour on Monday and the food and service were great. We had a dozen oysters, mussels, gumbo fries and a couple of drinks each. The service was friendly, helpful and even though we were eating and drinking only from the Happy Hour menu, we did not feel rushed out or ignored. I had had such a nice time that I wanted to bring another family member for her birthday dinner three days later. That experience was like dining at a different restaurant altogether. We had calamari, Blue crab Garganelli, the New England sea scallops and two drinks each. All three dishes were very salty and the Garganelli was basically floating in a bowl of butter. The server was about as disinterested in us as you can possible get without being down right rude. He was the classic order taker, offering no information about menu items unless prompted to do so. We wanted to order a glass of red wine to go with the entrees (that came out of the kitchen faster then our drinks came from the bar). My partner asked about a Merlot or Cabernet and we were told "No Merlot but we do have a Cabernet". When I got home I looked at the wine list on line and found that they serve six wonderful reds by the glass. My partner loves Malbec and Pinot Noir and we would have loved to have that information at the table when ordering. When I ordered a vodka soda I was asked "Titos or Ketel One". Really? That seems fairly lazy. What did it really matter anyway, our drinks did not arrive until our entrees were finished. When asked about dessert the treatment was the same. We did notice that our server found a certain "sense of urgency" when it came to delivering our bill. I can understand small inconsistencies in food taste and preparation, however, service excellence can and should be provided all the time. I had to add together the good experience and the bad one to come up with an overall average encounter.

No happy hour anymore, out of two dishes, the $37 Norwegian Halibut was partly raw, and the beer was flat. I realize seafood may be hard to obtain sometimes, especially under current circumstances, but the rest should have been much, much better for a mid-level Fort Collins restaurant. After many years and many visits, this is my second mediocre experience in a row - so we are done. Plenty of other options where experience is on par with the prices.

Hello Jeepmonkeymark,
Its unfortunate to see that you did not have the best experience with us here at Jax the last couple of visits you took the time to make. I'm not sure what information was provided to you about our Happy Hour, but we still offer it every day from 3:30-5pm and all evening on Mondays. If that was what you were hoping for instead of a higher priced entrée, then we will be ready for you in potentially visiting us again within that time. I will be certain in looking into the halibut and working with our chef in making sure that our dish goes out properly cooked. Flat beer being paired is not a good time either and wish we would have rectified the situation while you were here. We should have been more aware in order to mitigate. If we don't see you anytime soon, I hope your experiences at the other establishments around town are good and great.
Best,

Visited on 07/30/20. Mussels were okay but all 3 entrees were disappointing. My catfish was over cooked and the hush puppies were tasteless and also dry and over cooked. My brothers oyster po’boy was also disappointing. Daughter had the halibut but didn’t care for the combination of ingredients. However we did have the key lime tart for dessert and it was perfect.

Hello,
I would like to first thank you for making the choice of deciding to come in and join us here at Jax. Your time is very much valued as well as any and all feedback that you're able to give us. It looks as though we fell short in regards to the entree that you ordered. The details of which you have mentioned have been discussed with the chef and will be looked into to prevent any further disappointment. I'm so happy to see that the key lime tart left a good taste toward the end of your experience. Please let me know how I may be able to further get in touch with you with the hopes of learning more about your time with us.

Chose to pop into this place after a hike to “Arthur’s Rock” Ate at the bar. Tried raw oysters for the first time and was pleasantly surprised that I liked them and could taste the difference between oysters from different areas. My Husband had a cup of seafood gumbo that was yummy. For our main course we split the scallop dish which was excellent. (Wish there was more but I always feel that way when ordering scallops that are yummy). Also had a side of the lobster Mac n Cheese which was also perfectly prepared.

Who would expect great seafood in a land locked state? A nice surprise, to be sure. Crab cake was excellent, served with a lovely lemon sauce that put it over the top. Scallop dinner was divine. The cocktails and hush puppies were disappointing, thus a 4 and not 5 star review.

First, I have to say our service was excellent! What happened to the quality? Jax has always been my favorite place to eat. My husband joked that they probably went to costco for our meals which were salmon with hashbrowns, lobster rolls (which was mostly mayonnaise sauce) and a tuna appetizer with veggies. Maybe they are short on staff like most places. For the prices, I expected a higher quality of food and not pre-made and frozen food. Can't say I will never go back however .. not sure

haven't had oysters that good away from the coast in quite a while. the rest of the menu is pretty good, but if want really excellent fare ... stick to the oysters, the cocktails, and drink your dessert with an Irish coffee or an aperitif.

Had a fabulous experience at Jax Fish and Oyster bar. First let me say - Make reservations! We did not. First come first serve at the bar but you can imagine full restaurant = full bar. One of the bartenders (Chris) saw us waiting and when a couple of his customers were about to leave he fixed our drinks and set them there and held us that spot. Unheard of customer service these days. Can’t think him enough. Onward to the food and beverages. FABULOUS, SCRUMPTIOUS, CREATIVE! We started out with Oysters! A very nice selection of which we had a sampler of the ones they still had in stock. Many had sold out already. Our meals - I had the crab encrusted Hawaiian Ono with succotash. WOW just WOW! I had an infused cucumber beverage and it was a delicious and nicely complemented my meal. My husband had the fried Catfish served with potliker butter and hushpuppies. We both could have drank the butter. It was that delightful!

We went here on Christmas Eve for the Feast of the Seven Fishes. It's pricey but totally worth it. Absolutely delicious! (You can still eat at the bar with other dishes, but the dining area is the fixed menu on this night.) They were very busy; this is a popular event. The pacing was good, the portions were just right, and the service was friendly. Wonderful seafood, which is not easy to find in Colorado.

We visited this restaurant on August 20, 2022 in Fort Collins. My son is a student at Colorado State grad school. He wanted to try the restaurant because he heard good things about it. He went inside the establishment and asked for a table. The lady then says no tables are available. He then asked how long would the wait be, again he was told nothing was available. My husband and I went in to ask and we were told the next available time was 8:30pm. What really made us mad was, she stated "due to the students at Colorado State returning, they have more people than usual". Well, my son had on a CSU hat and is a student in their Grad program. Was it because he was african american??? What was disheartening was when he asked for a table - there wasn't any and would not be any available, however when my husband and I went in - they have a time of 8:30 pm available. We felt like we were racially profiled. There was an uncomfortable vibe when my husband and I entered requesting an explanation of "no tables available". So uncomfortable that we decided NOT to spend our money at this restaurant. We went down the street and the service there was excellent. Its a shame that we were in town from Georgia, and was treated this way.
