Went here for breakfast, which was lovely. Vege breakfast, huge and very tasty. Quick service. Cafe is gorgeous inside, the seating out the back is lovely!

I’m not sure why Mt Eden Village has to charge more than elsewhere for just about everything. It really is not that special in fact I would not want to be in the village during an earthquake. The garden shed is okay. The food was...excellent but over priced. The service was fine and the atmosphere excellent. I’m not sure of what justifies the cost. ( Mt Eden village customer tax) this is not ponsonby. I can recommend the fish and steak. Sitting outdoors is nice but there are plenty of nice tables inside.More
Nice place. Visited from the UK. Food a bit slow coming out but worth the wait. Attentive staff. Well priced as used on 1st table.
Wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing food. The garden shed is a great dining venue decorated with all sorts of garden tools and plants. We had a great meal and really enjoyed the location.
Visited this place with my partner and had booked through First Table. We arrived and reported to the reception area where we were shown to table 41 and were given our menus. The table itself was inside the restaurant and tucked away in a very...small cramped corner. My partner asked at reception if it was possible that we could be moved to another seat. A waiter then showed us to another table at the front of the restaurant and by the window. This was much nicer and felt a lot less cramped despite other table near us being full with customers. A waitress came and took our drink orders (I think she was quite new as she didn’t know a lot about the drinks menu), but she was really pleasant. As we were reading the menus we realised the two menus we had were different and had different pricing and meals on offer. Steaks on menu one were $36.99 and menu two were $39.99 if I remember correctly. Another member of staff then appeared, possibly the manager, telling us that we shouldn’t be sitting here and that as we had booked through First Table we had to accept the table given to us originally and shouldn’t have moved. We stated that we had not just moved on our own accord, we had asked at the reception if it was possible for us to move and then we were shown to the table we are now sat at. He kept telling us that we shouldn’t be sat there and that a new member of staff had made the mistake and moved us there. The manner in which he was speaking to us was not particularly nice and now that half the other customers were now looking at us having a debate about what seat we should be seated at, it was quite embarrassing. After admitting that the restaurant staff were in the wrong he backed down and said he would allow us to continue sitting where we were. In all honesty, we were ready to walk out and head off home after that dressing down from the manager. We were no longer feeling that welcome and it was clear my partner was very upset about being spoken to in that manner. It killed the mood. Our drinks arrived (two tap beer) and we were half way finished by the time our food order was taken. We were originally going to order a starter and a main but opted for just the main after we tried to order a starter but were told it was the old menu so couldn’t have it. I ordered a beef burger, it was quite nice but don’t think it was worth the price. My partner ordered a steak with seasonal vegetables. She said the steak was nice but expected more than some chopped up carrots to be the ‘seasonal veg’. As soon as our last bite had been had we got up and went to leave, the manager got our bill, we paid and before he could say anything else we walked out. Fair to say we probably won’t be back there. It’s a shame as the restaurant looks really good and we had high hopes for it but due to rude manager it’s a no from me.More
We've eaten here several times, and enjoyed it each time. Staff are pleasant and efficient - although they get a few things wrong at times, which is almost certainly due to English being their second language. Eclectic and interesting menu, with good food delivered on...each occasion.More
Whilst the service was acceptable the food was less so. We were a party of 6 and had different offerings from a limited menu. Everyone commented that the food was salty and the portions (except the fish and chips). The burgers were plain without any...garnish and a small portion of fries, The portion of fish and chips was better but the batter was overcooked (dark brown)More
We used to go to the Garden Shed often and the food was amazing! The food now is shocking. Still the same prices but burgers nothing better than a takeaway bar burger and the shared platter, just a glorified cheese board - gone are the...extras that kept us keep coming back. Have they changed ownership? Definitely will not be going again!More
The menu say brocollini but give you normal broccoli that you get charged a arm and leg for, the staff member assure you that it's premium brocollini...
It’s been a while since last here but whenever we are in the area, we like to stop here for a meal which we did a few weeks ago. Honestly, we were a little disappointed. We love the setting, and the staff were friendly enough...but I thought it was quite over priced. My gnocchi arrived there were 7 pieces on my plate with a blob of sauce, so $3.50 per piece! I ordered a mulled wine, and surprisingly a warm glass of white wine with a cinnamon stick arrived , well that was a first for me! Nowhere on the menu did it mention that the mulled wine would be made with white wine, nor did the waiter mention anything. I had a few sips of my $18 hot white wine drink and that was enough. Mulled wine should definitely only be red. My dads pasta dish was nice and the salmon was ok. We sat chatting for about an hour after our meal. No dessert menu was offered to us in that time ( the best apple crumble I’ve ever had is no longer on the menu ) , so we paid & left.More
Don't go here, just dont. I ordered on UberEATS and it was horrible, I'm distraught. Go somewhere else that deserves your money
We used to go to the Garden Shed quite a lot before the lockdowns and took our friends there with high expectations. Good table at the back, friendly waiting staff… but the food was so disappointing. Tiny but vastly overpriced portions, we were all still...really hungry after a starter and main. We decided to skip the overpriced desserts and walk back to our place for coffee and leftover Christmas trifle. I don’t think we’ll be going back.More
We were three, males, advanced in years (totalling 201yrs among us), celebrating a birthday. First day out of Auckland's lockdown, hopes were high. First time at this restaurant too. Nice greeting at the door, very pleasant people, asked very nicely for our vaccination certificates. The...website says no guarantees of a seat in the garden even when you book, so even though the interior looked very comfortable and interesting, nevertheless it was a pleasant surprise to be ushered out the back into a surprising and delightful outdoor area in the middle of crowded suburbia. High walls, one of which is a film-set two-dimensional replica of a large old house, which adds nicely to the atmosphere. The walls are covered in lush plantings of a wide variety. Tables well-spaced for covid. I suspect they might have been a bit more cramped in normal times. In the middle of what was a warm early-summer day the overhead sail and the large portable fans were very welcome. 10 out of 10 for ambience. Lovely staff, though the masks and the accents made it difficult to hear much of the time. Three different beers ordered. Two came in glasses that didn't appear very cold, and so they proved. One came in a can along with a chilled glass. That one was very good. When we ordered a repeat later in the meal, we pointed out the lack of chill. They promised to do better with the second order, and this time all three were moderately cold - that is two were better and one was slightly worse. The range on offer wasn't bad, but I'd have to score 5 out of 10. No excuse for beer not being well chilled, in summer especially. Maybe they're out of practice. One burger, ok but not great despite being wagyu beef. A burger is best eaten in one piece, in the hand, all flavours blending together in the mouth. This was the type that is not large in diameter but is very tall, so your only option is to break it open and eat it with knife and fork and miss the blend. One fish and chips, very dark and oily batter, looking somewhat overcooked. The fish inside was moist and fine though. Nice fries on both. One chicken breast, nice enough if nothing outstanding. I can't really score better than 6/10 for the mains, very much typical pub food. One dessert, meringue, was not quite as described on the menu but was actually better for being one normal meringue and a series of tiny ones, along with sliced fruit, coulis, and other sweet morsels. The mocha fudge went down very well too. But the apple and rhubarb tart looked so good that I almost wished I'd chosen it even though I don't like cooked apple. It apparently tasted as good as it looked. 10/10 for the desserts then. So, 2 tens, a 5 and a 6. That's not a bad score but will it entice us back? Not sure. Hope they do well, though, as Auckland eases out of restrictions.More
Wonderfull overall experience! Highly recommend, the food was amaze 9/10, but the experience sheesh don’t think I’ve had a better one. Their outdoor garden winter vibes were beautiful, and our waitress was 10/10 and made our experience. Will definitely be visiting again.
Went here for a brunch. Excellent service. Nice environment. Very good food - great flavours were a reflection of quality ingredients. Would go again.
