We had great hopes for this restaurant, which we visited with our friends who live in Boulder. Unfortunately we seemed to get them on an off night. We had to wait ages to get served and then we had to wait ages to get our drinks. Two of our party got their drinks, but my wife and I had to... More

Being french, a friend of mine invited to that place. Nice restaurant, great food, awesome wine list Arancini, mussels are great Cassoulet fully reinvented and I like it very much - coming from the cassoulet country, it is a compliment.

Read the other reviews: Mateo can be your best friend hidden gem, or it can disappoint just when you're looking for a solid meal. Where they're good, they're great: bistro foods like the chicken, mussels, frites, hamburgers (best in Boulder), and some nice simple salads and happy hour specials. When their reach exceeds their grasp, it's frustrating! Then the kitchen... More

Lovely food and ambiance. The lobster ravioli is exceptional if it is on the menu. Terrific desserts (profiteroles oh my!) and professional staff. One of the better restaurant's in Boulder. Not expensive for the quality. They do a good brunch at the week-ends

I've known Mateo for along time and I think it's consistently great. This time the smooth, unctious pate appetizer was brilliant, the risotto with peas very tasty, and the cobb salad, once I asked them to toss it all together, was perfect. So was the creme brule. Service good if difident. Lovely space too.

Mateo is a little bit of the beaten track and doesn't seem to get the notoriety of some other places, but it's really good. Terrific for brunch. Good art on the walls, too. Populated by locals who know a good thing. Visitors should check it out. A real piece of Boulder.

The right place to select for the NYE party with festive balloons galore! The fries are fantastic - world class actually. The chicken was done perfectly. Extensive wine list and great desserts...a great Boulder getaway.

Mateo is a gem. The food is wonderful and the menu changes just enough to keep you coming back. Staff is friendly and engages at just the right level - meaning if you want more you get it, if not, they will be invisible.

Winter dining -- be prepared for noise. The young people gravitate towards these "lively" restaurants, but if you want to have a conversation, go elsewhere. Compared to other nationally known Boulder restaurants, the food here is B+. Spare me the fries! Summer/fall is a different story: their outdoor seating is so pleasant, you can have a real conversation.

This is not a burger place per se, but if you are craving a fantastic burger at lunch time, this is the best in town. Served with excellent fries and a variety of toppings. Other lunch options are fantastic as well. (Haven't had dinner here in a long time.)
