Wonderful Argentinian restaurant, great food at a great value. The BBQ , empanadas and Milanesa are delicious.! So is the Chimichurri sauce!. The service is warm and friendly. You feel like you are at a friend's home. The decor is simple and dated, but the...great food and service overcome this. This is the place you go for comfort food and smiles. Friday night was interesting watching the Warriors game on a large screen while quirky Latin karaoke was playing at the same time. The karaoke was not my favorite part but it was fun to see the singers have fun.More

This is a small Argentine-style restaurant on Grand Avenue in South San Francisco. The restaurant has special events (tango-dancers, singers, musicians, TV soccer viewing parties) so you might want to double-check before going. The food was very tasty, portions were great, and server was casual,...but very helpful. We stopped by on a whim, on a Saturday evening, and ended up being the only people in the place - which is surprising! Décor isn't much, a few photos and paintings of Argentina's Boca District, and legendary Tango singer, Carlos Gardel, along with framed soccer jerseys. Clean, white-tabled clothed tables. On that night, the TV was on, which didn't bother us, but shouldn't be on when the restaurant is busy. We ordered the "churrasco" which is served with vegetables and mashed potatoes and cooked to order. Delicious! Especially if you have it with the "chimichurri" sauce which is put on the table along with the bread (yummmm). We also ordered the "ensalada rusa" - Russian salad, as a side. A rich potato salad made with peas and carrots. The house salad, which came with our meal, was a little sad looking, but the vinaigrette house dressing helped. The menu also features empanadas and alfajores, which are made fresh in-house. They also have a "parillada" which is a very traditional mix of barbequed meats. It serves 3 - 4 people, and takes a little extra time to prepare. So, we'll be sure to plan for that the next time we go and bring another guest or two! I understand that much of their business is cooking items (empanadas and alfajores) for other restaurants, caterers, and vendors. So, the restaurant may be a secondary business for them. I don't recommend it if you're tight on time or are looking for a high-end experience. We enjoyed our meal at Villa del Sol very much. With one glass of house red wine (very nice) and a soda, it cost about $55 for the two of us. If you're looking for a casual experience with tasty Argentine-styled food, this is a good option.More

I was so hoping to try this place out after reading mixed reviews. Had a restaurant.com coupon, checked their own website since two web links had different hours. Tried calling before going, based on their website saying they open at 12:30. So we get there,...from the outside it was very clean and inviting, tables all set and ready for business but the doors were locked, there were no signs telling us the hours or even the days of operation (their own webiste said closed on Mon and Tues so we picked Thursday). So although I cannot vouch for the food, I can't really give this place any recommendation. They even had a lunch menu posted on the window so unless they changed their operation earlier that day or week, it was one we could not experience. We will not try again. villa del sol, if you are reading this, better update your website and post hours for the future. Even an answering machine stating the hours or days once we called might have been helpful. I've heard that in some countries they go by their own clocks, so if this is true of Argentina, maybe get a reality check.More

We went there for dinner on a Friday night. Empanadas were good, probably the beef ones were better than other flavors, we didn't try humita, though. Staff was very nice, making sure we had all we needed. We ordered ravioli (which was cheesy ravioli, with...more cheese on top and very oily pesto), and parrillada with salad. It was just OK, nothing special. The place is very informal, like family style which we're just fine with, but the meals were not impressive at all and the chimichurri wasn't that good either. Having been to many Argentine restaurants, I was expecting much more than the quality of food we got. Probably not going back, not really worth the trip, unless they put more effort on what they do.More

Watched the Works Cup final there and it was a great experience. Great parrillada, perfect salad. Empanadas were delicious too. Comida casera would be the perfect descriptor. Nice family atmosphere.
