I hate places that have higher prices on the bill than for the same item on the menu- in other words fraud. Pasta that should cost $14 is $22 on the menu and higher on the bill. Appetizers that should be $12-$14 are $19 on the menu and higher when they gave me the bill. On top of that the... More

Loved the lively environment, the friendly "buona sera!" on entering, and the cordial, efficient service. The food, however was just so-so: Gluppy sauce on the 2 pasta dishes we ordered - like they had been sitting around. The branzino - which was supposed to have been grilled - was mushy and lying in a soupy puddle; swordfish thin and dried... More

I had the opportunity to visit the restaurant after many years in Santa Monica. I am sorry We did not go sooner. It is a small non descript place with indoor and outdoor seating. The staff is always helpful and accommodating and we had not had a bad meal yet. I think it is one of the better Italian restaurants... More

It’s a quaint little spot. It feels homey. The food got mixed reviews from our party, but I thought everything was excellent. We sampled the Chicken Parm, the Truffles with White Egg Noodles, the Burrata and the Meatballs with a Pinot Noir. Everything was delicious.

This was recommended by a local and what a find it was. Great wine list with multiple price points and great wine glasses. Male waiters who knew there trade.much outdoor seating and you can you can easily miss this location.. Veal was great , this is where the locals go .much better than the tourists spots .

The broccoli and also the pea soup was average, nothing special. The homemade pastas are not very impressive, the tomatoes and herbs do not blend very wel, we found nothing fantastic. Seafood pasta was okay but not great. The saffron risotto with seafood was also average and doughy, we have tasted much better then that. The oil they use for... More

How is it possible I have not found this restaurant before? Its tucked away in a little strip mall on 11th street and Montana in Santa Monica. Its pure momma's recipes from the old country. The pasta is fresh and tastes as if it was just made and the sauces are brilliant without a touch of too much garlic, salt... More

Restaurants may come and go but Portofino is a rock amid the fluidity in the category - a testament to the quality and service they consistently deliver at the corner of 11th and Montano, next to The Duck Blind. The dishes are fresh, flavorful and as close to what you'll find in the Italian homeland as you can imagine. If... More

We love walking to this local Santa Monica restaurant on Montana. The service is fine, the Italian food is very good and the pasta is excellent! The only problem is the high price for pasta of $24 (plus tax and tip) for the simplest pasta option (Penne Arrabiata). If you add some breast of chicken it'll add $8 more.

Christmas dinner. All a bit squashed in and dodgy tables and chairs but was authentic Italian food. Wine a bit over priced but would go back no problem.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
