We visited this deli after reading a travel guide review of the sandwiches and were glad we did. Arriving with a small backpack, the security guard informed us we would need to take it off and leave it with him while ordering and then went on to ask if we had been before. When we confirmed that we hadn't, he... More

This is a great deli with some high-quality foods. Bread, cheese, olives, spreads, coffee, wines and bunch of other intl' proucts. Don't feel intimidated by the mass of hungry folks. Get a number & get in line. It moves fast. The pro's behind the counter know their job so let them recommend. After you pay you can try & find... More

If you want to assure yourself a great sandwich for lunch, this is the only place in Santa Monica that is guaranteed to be tasty. And if you are originally used to that taste of a meatball and peppers sandwich you ate at the Jersey Shore, here is the one West Coast place that can duplicate it. The upside is... More

A standard local go to Deli, lunch is a scene with a long line to order. Best sandwiches the godmother is the most popular. There is hot food as well. It's is also a market and Italian specialties are the best. My very favorite Italian Deli anywhere. A Santa Monica institution. Tables outside to eat. Has a parking lot too.

These people think they know Italian food but they're really just jokesters. Two sandwiches my friend and I had were medicore. Tuna salad tasted pre-made and old and artificial at that. Certainly not worth the wait or rude treatment by staff who give off the idea that they could care less about your patronage. Whole experience felt like I was... More

Great place to get a chicken Parmesan sandwich. They actually have a wide variety of prepared food and also a mini grocery store. The only problem with this it is very crowded spot, probably because it is so popular with the locals. If you are willing to wait around for about 40 minutes before you get a sandwich and some... My brother recommended this place and I finally had the chance to try it out on a road trip earlier this summer. Go in and immediately take a number. It will be busy. It is always busy! Then start perusing the menu. They do have their most popular sandwiches ready made to go but I liked the experience of ordering... More

The line at lunch is crazy. Beware. Get a ticket as soon as you get there and pay attention out they will pass you up fast. The food is pretty good, but not something you call your mom to brag about. The service is really good (as long as you part attention) and if you order online it's very efficient.... More

We got a godmother sandwich, chicken parm, eggplant parm and caprese sandwiches to go. Also had the cheese tortellini pesto. This deli was pretty big with lots of selection. Very busy too. A bit of a disappointment as we had heard a lot of great things. Sandwiches were big but just tasted okay and the bread was too hard.

Vacationing in Los Angeles, and headed to Hollywood Bowl (which itself is a great experience). The Bowl allows you to bring own food and wine, and hotel concierge recommended Bay Cities Deli. We arrived, and were disappointed the line to get served was 20+ deep, and we would not be able to order and make the show. We bought a... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
