This place is popular with the late-night crowd I'm told. I have only done take-out here twice. Both times the food prep seemed sloppy and the flavor was lacking. They offer a dinner deal and it's plenty of food. It was just not anything special.

We ordered several special rolls and some nigiri sushi, and were very disappointed that the rolls (Hip-Hop, Godzilla, and Marine) all had fish that was finely chopped, more like ground. Very disappointing, not very palatable. Marine roll was okay, no more. Others were no better...than grocery store, not as fresh tasting, even. Sushi poorly wrapped, also. Ginger dried out, poor quality wasabi. The hamachi nigiri tasted okay, but just okay, and was a little tough. Next time back to Arigato. A lot more expensive, but worth it.More
We went to this restaurant with a friend who is married to a Japanese man. He did the ordering and everything we ate was fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. We had more than enough variety and the bill did not break the bank. This restaurant...is off the main drag and no where near the tourist section of eateries. I was a bit surprised by the very simple decor, nothing fancy about the place. Service was excellent. 2710 De La Vina St No reservations taken unless it is a large group. We come here all the time however so she can be quite different depending on who is making it. He's so she's going to fall apart depending on who sushi chef is. Fish is fresh. Recommend capaccio, steamed clams, eggplant, ankimo,. Sushi sashimi combo, add...curryMore
Went to this place because it is open late and a local recommended it. First item was edamame gyoza, which I had hoped was a decent alternative to pork. They were so bland and horrible. Next dish was miso eggplant, loaded with sugar. No good...either. Third up was a special roll, which was really good. Last up was udon tempura. My husband had sukiyaki. Both really boring. There was no one there when we arrived but it got busy later. Very short on atmosphere as well. Prices are reasonable but who cares? I’d rather spend a little more and have a decent meal. I do not recommend.More
Had a quick dinner here while staying in a hotel nearby. The sushi is good, simple and tasty, nothing fancy. We also had the mixed tempura which was also good. Service was ok, polite and efficient.
Good food, good staff, friendly owner. The combination sushi sashimi dinner is great value. Beers were icy cold, service was good. Lots of locals eat here and it's easy to see why.
We give this an average rating. Tempura was excellent. Sushi was pretty good. Some of the noodle dishes were not great.
First thing: get there early. This place fills up fast. Second thing: the volcano. Just get it. Third thing: I may or may not have spent 1/5 of my student loan here when I was in college. It was THAT good!
The only good thing about this place is the hours of operation. When everything else in the neighborhood is closed they are open late night until 1 am. The food was horrible and the service not much better.
As I travel all over the US I always like to try local sushi bars. Edomasa was just down the street from my hotel so I thought that I would give it a try. It was nice to see some things that you don't always...find such as yamakake and natto. The sushi itself was decent. Overall, it was a good experience and better than another sushi bar that I had tried in town on an earlier trip. Worth consideringMore
Edomasa has the advantage of being off the main drag of downtown located in the much quieter upper State Street area. The owner is awesome and makes friendly visits to tables throughout his shifts. Their sushi is consistently pretty good, some excellent rolls and others...rather mediocre. Good number/variety of sake to pour and great deal on a pitcher of Asahi with free appetizer (edomame, gyoza, etc.). The interior ambiance is nothing special or romantic, yet provides for a quiet and low key sushi spot! See you soon! Best, ~SMore
Went here upon recommendation by hotel staff. Was great value for money. About $40 for two of us including sashimi which is good. We didn't drink though. Some of the sushi has minced fish in it which isn't ideal but I guess that's what makes...it cheaper. Don't go for a romantic meal, go to eat and get full. The menu is one of those really extensive complicated ones though.More
Edomasa is open after 6P. Be there soon afterwards as it fills up very fast, a popular place. The food is plentiful and very, very good. I think purist may balk a little but we were very satisfies with food and service (thanks Kazumi). All...staff were very friendly and service was expedient. Great plum wine.More
Excellent sushi from a twenty+ year establishment. Try their own creations as well as the standard fair. Locals will often bring in their own catch for preparation.
