This is really like going to a higher-end izakaya in Japan, where I misspent some of my youth. The food is authentic in flavor and very very good. Get the yellowtail tuna with the dried lotus root in the citrus-y sauce. wonderful. Fried pork belly, yum. The small-production sake is delicious, we had one from Yamagata. You can easily spend... Wanted a different Sunday lunch, friends told us about this place. They were right, it was a nice find. Not overly into heavy Japanese decor, spotless, excellent lunch "boxes" with great selection. Good service, nice place for family.

Authentic yakitori with an extended menu beyond chicken. This was a taste of Japan. Go, take your time, and enjoy the variety of dishes with great sake. Small succulent portions. A bit like a Japanese tapas bar. The breast skewers with shiso are one great reason to go back!!!. Enjoy.

If you are looking for a typical family style Japanese restaurant, don’t go here. This is more of a place to go if you have drinking and appetizers on your mind. My sister and I decided to take our Japanese mother there for dinner. Our mom who is the expert on Japanese cuisine said that the food was very good... More

We stumbled into this little place by chance. It looked authentic and those waiting to get in, too. Having no clue what to order - besides the ramen - we went by the waitress suggestions. It was mind blowing! The look, the taste, I haven't had Japanese food like this since my last stay in Japan. Cannot even out it... More

Monday-Friday Closed for Lunch. Served only Saturday & Sunday's Yakitori and IZAKAYA at night Great Cold Sake Selection. Owners are from Japan. Her sister used to own Hotaru in San Mateo, until she retired a few years ago.

I have a friend who is always raving about how this is one of her favorite places for dinner, so I happened to be walking by around lunchtime and decided to try it on her recommendation. The menu at the time included typical fare of sushi, teriyaki and donburi, so I was skeptical that dinner would be any better. However,... More

Delicious japanese tapas with revolving specials. The owner is constantly changing the menu for the season. We love the skewers as the are done excellently. The other dishes are a must try. Izakaya Ginji has an array of shochu and sakes on the menu.

This is an excellent Japanese the staff were superb and could not do enough for us, the food was excellent authentic with great ingredients, we were very well sated and will go again. The only reservation was the limited wine list, but they a brilliant selection of sakes and a good selection of Japanese beers.

Having been stationed in Japan for several years sometimes you just pine for the times you enjoyed Japan. This place is authentic and does a fantastic job. The orion beer and awamori were great both regional selections from Okinawa. I'd recommend this place to anyone.
