We've frequently dined at this establishment primarily for their yakitori, which is the next best thing on the Peninsula, short of dining in Japan. While the grilled meat selection is excellent, their other dishes are worthy of consideration as well. In particular, their pork belly...More

The Blue Fin sashimi is the best sashimi I've ever had...period! The rest of the fish was superb! Huge chunks of fish at reasonable prices.

Even on Sunday night the jammed all weekend restaurants in this town where you can't find parking are jammed. We thought a nice meal out on a quiet Sunday would be nice, and when we were told a 45 minute wait at 630 we almost...More

We always pass by this restaurant but never made an effort to dine in so we finally tried it for one night. Luckily we made reservations prior to the designated time. People started to line up outside before the door opened. Avoid waiting for hours...More

Great beverages and tapas-type Japanese food. There's a diverse selections of Japanese sake and beer. You may select grilled entrees, sashimi or sushi rolls. All our recommended selections were very good. We were not disappointed. The servers were very helpful with their recommendations.

It was my first time there. It's not on the main street where most of the restaurants are in downtown San Mateo so I didn't know about it. The food and service were great!

Wanted a different Sunday lunch, friends told us about this place. They were right, it was a nice find. Not overly into heavy Japanese decor, spotless, excellent lunch "boxes" with great selection. Good service, nice place for family.

Authentic yakitori with an extended menu beyond chicken. This was a taste of Japan. Go, take your time, and enjoy the variety of dishes with great sake. Small succulent portions. A bit like a Japanese tapas bar. The breast skewers with shiso are one great...More

If you are looking for a typical family style Japanese restaurant, don’t go here. This is more of a place to go if you have drinking and appetizers on your mind. My sister and I decided to take our Japanese mother there for dinner. Our...More
