I like to support local restaurants as much as possible. Unfortunately, I won't return to this one. The people were very nice and attentive. The food was just so so, tho. When making our fried rice, the chef badly scorched the eggs, but did nothing about it. As he went on, he overcooked just about everything. As soon as I... More

Typical type of Teppanyaki style place. We arrived at 5 pm for dinner service and were seated with three others and a short while later two others joined the 5 of us. Upon entering the place there is a unique odd smell like it has been closed up for years with no ventilation. The wallpaper and cook tables are a... More

Food was bland but the service was great. Serving sizes are average for this type of Japanese restaurant. Fried rice was void of flavor.

While waiting for my brother-in-law's flight to arrive at SJC, my wife, daughter, and I had dinner at House of Genji last Friday. Genji is one of San Jose's best places to dine when a fun, warm, unpretentious environment is important. The style is "teppan yaki," in which the chef prepares food on a large steel stove top, directly in... More

The food at House of Genji is cooked Teppanyaki style, (ie: Benihana), right on the grill in front of you. The chefs are fun, engaging & do a myriad of entertaining tricks as the prepare your food. The show is the fun part of the occasion. The food is good, as is the service, although I would not consider it... More

We had seen this place advertised on TV and took the granddaughter because she would enjoy the show part of the meal. Compare other similar restaurants I found the show that the chef include I the cooking process was average. Have seen better in the US and much better in Japan. Food portions were fine, and the food average. Even... More

My family has a thing for teppanyaki so for big family celebration we always have teppanyaki. Benihana didn't have big enough table to sit the whole family so we went to Genji instead. Food selection, quality & taste wise, Genji was on par with Benihana. Although I find the food to be quite salty overall. The overall presentation, such as... More

The food was very typical of a good hibachi restaurant. Usual menu offerings plus sushi, sashimi etc. The service was excellent. Very friendly and fun to talk to. Decor was a bit dated but all in all it was a good experience.

My spouse had researched this restaurant and was in the mood to try out a new restaurant so we visited here on a Saturday. Waited at the bar for some friends to join us and we enjoyed the vodka collins and martini drinks served in the lounge. Saturday night was a busy visit at the HOG. Salad and soup was... More
