After spending some time at Valley Fair Shopping Mall we decide it was time to grab some lunch at Falafel Drive In. It was about five minutes drive and we found our parking in the rear as the front and street parking spots were full. The line was relatively short with only three people ahead of us. However it quickly grew behind us. COVID-19 precautions were in place with all tables near the ordering window taped off but all other outdoor tables were available. Staff were masked and gloved. While waiting they had one window full of articles on the history of the restaurant (50 years) as well as a painted mural on the side of the neighbor’s building. Lots of local images, facts about falafels and Guy Fieri who featured the restaurant on the Totally Fried episode of Diners, Drive Inns and Dives. The menu had Greek and Mediterranean options but we ordered the basics choosing large falafel and gyro pitas. A side of fries rounded out our lunch. Within 10 minutes our order was ready at the pick up window. Each were individually wrapped and extra containers of tahini and harissa were included. The falafel pita namesake was packed with tomatoes, lettuce and falafel balls. While it was messy to eat (the pita falls apart easily) it was the best tasting with a nice kick from the harissa. The gyro pita was filled with diced beef, tomatoes and lettuce but even with additional tahini the meat was still a bit dry. I still prefer the gyro wraps over the pita style. The fries were thickly cut and good. Overall $19 bucks for lunch. Not too bad for the amount of food and little bit of dining history.

Ordered via Doordash for my wife and I when we were staying in a local hotel. We got a Gyro and a falafal sandwich along with some hummus and pita chips. Everything was delicious, much higher quality than "fast food" and the quantities were very satisfying. We even had some left over hummus and chips the next day - try that with your french fries... And the price close to what you'd expect to pay at McD's or other fastfood.

So many good reviews and an appearance on Diners, DriveIns and Dives had to try it when in town. Got there around 11am for lunch and no line. Order at the window and then collect your food at the window when your number is called. Very COVID-friendly covered, outdoor picnic tables for dining with some having heat lamps above. Food was super fresh, we sampled the falafel sandwich, chicken pita sandwich and the kifta kabab in pita. Highlight was the kifta and chicken. Falafel was good and full of meat, so meat lovers will go crazy for it. Banana shake was just okay, was expecting more banana flavor as it is very subtle. Prices are a great value ($11 for the special combo of Banana Shake & Falafel Sandwich.)

Although Food is inexpensive and good for quick bite, most of the menu is prepackaged . Location is good and atmosphere is relaxed . Also the history attached to the place adds to its appeal. Good for one visit .

Ignoring the fact that this place was on TV before, Falafel Drive-In was always a great place to try in the area. The falafel and wraps here were delicious and really filling every time I stopped by here. The pita chips were also great but also to close off the meal was their Banana Milkshakes, which was amazing! The line to wait here was not so bad and seating is all outdoors. It's definitely worth checking out when you have the time.

Once you arrive at Falafel Drive In, you will wonder: - Why is it actually called Falafel’s Drive In? - Where is the drive in? - Why am I in line on one of the busiest streets in San Jose for food? I don’t know why it’s a possessive noun. I don’t know why there’s no drive in. But the food is why you’re in line. It’s delicious. When at a Mediterranean type restaurant, I usually don’t order falafel because I like meat, but at least one person in your party should get a falafel because they are perfect and the sauce is awesome. I always get a root beer shake but I have heard the banana shake is amazing. Live a little and get a shake! Spend some time and look at the mural on the wall. It was painted by a local and has many landmarks, etc.

The waiting time is too long first in the line for order and then waiting for the preparation. Finally I was disappointed. I expected more. I tried better kebabs and cheaper too. The presentation was too poor and they don't give you any sauce and either napkins

I came across this place while checking out restaurants near where I would be working. I was excited to see it was traditional falafel and a whole lot more. It was also good to see that it was family operated and about my age, a rarity that I like to support. The falafel sandwich was delicious, the tahini was middle eastern in stye (critical) and the house hot sauce. The Hummus plate was nice garnished as well. I hope to return and try more things from their menu.

Has not changed for more than 25 years. Whenever we are in San Jose there is no doubt we will stop here at least once for the "Special," a falafel and banana milk shake. The quality of both is excellent and very affordable. Unless you get there when they first open each day, there will be a line, but it moves fast. Obviously, there is a good reason for a line - good, authentic food.

This time, instead of a falafel specialty, I had my son pick up taboulleh and hummus for me. Both were fantastic and enough that I had for lunch the next day. Always a reliable choice when I visit my son in San Jo.

This was my first time in several years to get a small falafel . I wanted extra falafel balls, so I ordered more. The food was an almost 4, but it’s a take out type of place snd you’re not waited on. I would go there again when I’m hungry.

The restaurant lived up to the reviews! Great service. Large portions for a good price. Very tasty food. I recommend the large Gyro pita sandwich and large fries. My wife recommends the falafel salad. Will definitely return!

Right across street from where I was staying for a weekend visit. Had to visit AND give it a WOW! What a fun place, excellent menu & the falafel was the freshest, bestest I've ever had! Love the casual atmosphere, the picnic tables & the most amazing wall murals. Wish it was in my backyard!!!!

I’ll add my voice to the chorus of reviewers who have praised Falafel’s Drive-In. This oddly-named restaurant isn’t owned by someone named Falafel, and it’s not a drive-in, but who cares when the food is so good! I love their signature Falafel on pita bread and a small sandwich is usually enough for lunch. The falafel balls are crispy on the outside with just enough spice. I’ll echo what others have said about their terrific hot sauce which is unfortunately only drizzled on the top instead of mixed throughout. They also offer gyros, kofta, humus, tabbouleh, baba-ghanouj, and other authentic Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food as well as classic American fare like hamburgers and grilled chicken sandwiches. There are plenty of choices for vegetarians and meat lovers alike. Prices are reasonable given the quality and quantity of food. You order at the counter and can take your food to go or share a picnic bench and enjoy the outrageously creative and colorful murals which line the walls of the partially enclosed dining area. Try to beat the noontime lunch crowd because parking is often hard to find and lines can be long. But at least the food comes out quickly. The Nijmeh family has owned and operated Falafel’s since 1966 and have built it into a local institution. It’s open every day for lunch and dinner. Enjoy!
