I was a woman traveling alone and sat at the bar, but was still able to order the table side guacamole which was delicious. I ordered carnitas. It was real. It was not just shredded pork, but had pork belly and the wonderful fat from...More

We went to El Cholo for Sunday lunch. Without a reservation, we were seated immediately. Our table service was good, as was the food. We were able to order the size of combination plates that we wanted, and the margaritas were good. However, the ladies'...More

Tucked in an upper corner of a rather busy outdoor mall with separated buildings, this place took some doing to find. Decor is busy Mexican. Staff are fine. Food is mediocre.

Saturday afternoon after we attended a convention in Pasadena, grabbed my husband and 2 adult sons and went to El Cholo for cocktails and dinner, Good margaritas!!! Lots of tequilas available. Green corn tamales when in season are a must! Service was fast and friendly...More

We chose this restaurant while visiting Pasadena based on Trip Advisor reviews and were really disappointed. This is, at best, mediocre food. The fish taco had mealy, gummy fish, was served lukewarm. The filet mignon tacos had tough, grisly beef. The house margarita was premade...More

This is the top-rated Mexican cuisine restaurant in Pasadena, with good reason. Terrific happy hour deals to enjoy on the front patio, or in the bar. Fine dining in the restaurant. This is one of, I believe, six El Cholo restaurants around SoCal now, with...More

We ordered a variety of enchiladas and burritos and all were wonderful. Everyone was pleased and portions large so a couple folks took rest of their dinner home. Our server was very attentive. Will definitely go back.

Was here with Mom and sister. I had the chicken enchilada suiza. It was so delicious! The flavor was amazing! The chips beforehand were so fresh...I loved it.

While visiting the Pasadena area for business, we ate at El Cholo Cafe for lunch. The buffet was very reasonable and offered salmon, rice, beans, fruit, veggies, pork, tortillas, cheese enchiladas and more...plus a soda. We enjoyed the meal and would come back again. Enjoy!

El Cholo has quite a history in LA. I went to USC as a graduate student and I think the first opened nearby. They have since opened lots, but they are always delightful. Mexican food in LA is extraordinary, so whenever I get back there,...More

Description
El Cholo Pasadena opened its doors to the public in October 2000 on Fair Oaks Ave. We moved to the Paseo Mall in December 2010 on Colorado Blvd. keeping the 88 year old legend going strong. All of the El Cholo restaurants feature authentic and traditional Mexican dishes, many of which have come from family recipes dating back to 1923. Our distinctive menu offers classics such as our famous Green Corn Tamales, Enchiladas, and sizzling Fajitas. Our Combination plates along with our newer comidas especiales have made El Cholo famous along with our irresistible Nachos introduced in the 1950's. But there is one thing that El Cholo is especially known for and that is our Award-Winning Margarita.
The decor of El Cholo Pasadena radiates warmth and relaxation. The Hacienda style architecture is accented with hand-painted arches, rustic ceiling timbers and traditional Mexican murals.
Amenities include two full service bars, three outdoor patios, and a private banquet room.
