Not the beat experience. Came here for dinner and expected more out of this restaurant. I guess the only thing they have going for them is the hype on their "clam chowder", which is in my opinion not much worth bragging about. I had a bowl and not once did a chew on a clam, it was super thick and... More

After going to the Monterey Whale watching tour, my family and I decided to have dinner on the Old Fisherman’s wharf, and at the Old Fisherman’s grotto restaurant. The whole wharf is filled with restaurants so it is not easy to choose where to eat. However, my sister and brother-in-law live in the area and suggested the Old Fisherman’s grotto,... More

Not quite sure what to make of this place. The food was fine, but nothing special except the excellent bread bowl chowder they are apparently known for. The rest was cooked properly and tasted good, if a bit bland (a salmon dish, steamed clam dish, fried calamari). They did have some decent local wines at very good restaurant prices. The... More

This was our 1st choice restaurant on Fisherman's Wharf over the holiday weekend. We liked the reviews, and of course as New Englanders....we wanted to try the "award winning chowder". If you only read the Yelp and Trip Advisor reviews, you miss out on their "Children's Policy". This is a tab on their website, that I admit using our mobile... More

I had the fillet mignon steak here this evening, medium-well done. What a great piece of steak, cooked to perfection! Great service, with a very warm welcoming feel, with great food and wine selection. Would highly recommend dining here.

My wife and I ate dinner here to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. The staff were all very kind and polite. Our server was great and very attentive. We started with the house salad and grilled artichoke. Both were very delicious. For our entree, my wife had the twin lobster tails and I ate the chicken marsala. My chicken was... More

They did half a crab, which I had, as a crab fan. It was the BEST CRAB I have ever had! There was plenty of sweet crab flesh, the legs are big enough that I could get all the meat out without the need for one of those crab hooks (which is good as I didn't get one). It was... More

We went there for lunch and they have upgraded the décor since we last visited. Clam Chowder is still the best and even the cups are big. Wonderful calamari, prawn and Cesar salad. And the Special Bloody Mary is really good. Excellent place for lunch and looks nice for dinner too.

We'd been out for an afternoon whale watching and returned a little cold and hungry. Walking down the wharf we decided on a whim to try the Old Fisherman's Grotto about 6pm in the evening. The restaurant was fairly busy, we asked for a window seat and were lucky a table had just been vacated. We were swiftly shown to... More

We had a wonderful seafood dinner at Old Fisherman's Grotto. We started out in the bar and got drinks (the martinis were good, but small for the price), before heading to our perfectly located booth right by the windows overlooking the wharf. The service was great, the breadbasket was diverse, and the food was amazing.
