As a large group, dinner and service outstanding. Their lettuce salad exceptional. The roast suckling pig was delicious and moist. All the side vegetable dishes innovative and tasty. Ambiance warm and elegant. Service was perfect.

We had a gift voucher to go here otherwise we would have chosen a different place. Service was OK, food not so much! Wouldn't go back. Prices are too high for what you get in return.
In Monterey on business, we had heard this was an excellent restaurant. Excited to bring clients we gladly took the recommendation. The atmosphere inside and out was very nice and comfortable. It was easy to talk business without worrying the surrounding noise would be too...More
This used to be a favorite for all our groups - everyone we brought here loved everything about it. The experience this visit was inconsistent & guests were left unimpressed. We were a group & Restaurant 1833 offers a family style menu for groups. We...More
Beautiful restaurant, solid service but we're here to talk about the food, right? The salmon stomach appetizer was heavenly. The so-called tandoori naan was not heavenly... nor was the chicken tandoori. It was as though they stripped it off a chicken you buy at Ralph's....More

Food: 2 stars Service: 2 stars Ambiance: 4 stars After an incredible meal this time last year, we eagerly returned to 1833 and were desperately disappointed in the new chef and his uninspiring, pedestrian dishes. It used to be a bastion of creativity. No more....More
This is a very pleasant restaurant out of the tourist area. Unfortunately the food was not uniformly up to our expectations, but certainly not bad. We started with a very good artichoke and cheese flat bread and a nacho starter that was also very good....More
I suspect the title of my review says it all. The setting for 1833 is quite lovely. Unlike the uber-lit places that seem all the rage now, 1833 keeps the lighting low creating an atmosphere very conducive to a pleasant evening of dining. Our server...More
