I was here in the afternoon on a saturday. I ordered the special menu 1 Teriyaki Beef & Sashimi. You get a soup first and then the meal. I ate it all. And now I'm super full. the portion was huge! The old ladies running this place are super nice. if you don't want to sit down, you could just... More

You really must wait in line here. Order the potato croquette and a half-dozen imagawayaki! And whatever else looks tasty. It's all delish! Great people too!

So AAA Westways magazine was doing some articles on Little Tokyo in Los Angeles and they mentioned some shops that had been there for a long time. Two of those shops caught my attention: Fugetsu-do (which I found to be a heavenly place of mochi cornucopia) and Mitsuru Cafe which makes those griddle cakes filled with red bean paste. It's... My husband and I stopped by Mitsuru Cafe for lunch on a Sunday. It is a small, casual Japanese restaurant that also serves American food like pastrami sandwiches and fries. They have a small sushi bar as well. We dine at many of the Japanese restaurants here in the Little Tokyo area of Los Angeles. This is one of the... More

I think they make the most money off of their window spectacle the Red Bean Cakes, which are really delicious. We sat down inside this time to order lunch, and it was really good. We ordered a variety of different things from the menu and everything we tried tasted very good, and we didn't have to wait long to get... More

Delicious Japanese food on a budget! The red bean cakes are a must try - the sweet fI'll inside that pacake type dough is delicious. The employees are so much fun. It's a true Japanese experience in the middle of LA. And you can't go wrong with the teriyaki.

After visiting the Japanese American National Museum, we walked around the Japanese Plaza and found this place. It is very simple. You can see two ladies making dango through the window. There are little booths for 4 and a counter. It smells very yummy inside. My daughters agreed. They have simple sashimi but since the girls don't like sashimi or... More

I think mitsuru café might be the most popular snack spot in the Little Tokyo Area, the long line can tell. We had a mitarashi dango, 4 red bean cakes, and a green tea macroon ice-cream. I like their red bean cakes, and you can watch how they make those red bean cakes through the window, The red bean inside... More

Anytime I am near the restaraunt I NEED to pick up at least two Imagawayaki treats - think pancake type donut with Azuki bean filling. I could eat one every day if I lived closer.

I love the ice cream sandwiches. I've tried the Strawberry and Green Tea. I've also had their red bean cake which is okay. I don't know what it is about their ice cream sandwiches, but the macaron part of it is hard and not chewy at all. Not the same consistency of a macaron. It only looks good but it... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
