What made Hirozen amazing was head sushi chef Matsumoto, who recently purchased the restaurant and hung a new banner. Matsu continues his 16 year tradition of delivering simply the best sushi found anywhere, period. I've had sushi in almost every town around the globe and nothing comes close. Your best bet - Omakase! You will hear Matsu say, no soy... More

I've been enjoying Chef Matsumoto's Omakase creations for 4 years now. He's a master Sushi chef and has just taken over ownership, changing the name to Matsumoto. The fish is always the freshest. The creativity is inspired. If you've seen Jiro Dreams of Sushi you can save the airfare and enjoy the equaled experience here. I can't say enough about... More

I've actually been coming here for years. It's a tiny place hidden in the corner of a little strip mall. But, what an amazing attention to the craft of authentic Japanese cuisine! It's certainly the best I've had outside of Japan. Many of the appetizers and entrees are seasonal. I personally love the shrimp-stuffed zucchini flowers when they are available.... More

Typically, I'm reluctant to try new culinary experiences. For this one our kids introduced us to Sushi at Hirozen. It was great. Tucked away in the corner of an L. A. strip mall where the other businesses were already closed for the day, we had a very I intimidating experience. Most noteworthy was the "Day's Specials" Menu featuring all the... More

You'd never know it but just seeing it from the street but this is a class act sushi joint. Greet menu, great and efficient service. Sushi portions are a bit smaller than we are accustomed to so we just ordered a lot of it. Butter fish skewers is a must. Tuna, salmon and yellow tail were fresh and yummy. Shrimp... More

This was an outstanding option in LA, you would never would have thought the little gem this place is when you see it from the street/parking. Outstanding chef, if you are in the mood I would highly recommend you sit in the bar let them spoil you. When you are instructed not to pour soy sauce in your pieces it... More

Hirozen is a little gem hidden in an unpretentious mini mall, a few blocks away from the Berverly Center. Gourmet is attached to the name of the restaurant for a reason : the chef offers an extensive menu of specials gourmet appetizers (It's one of the very rare place where I had the tiny crunchy crab). There's also a large... More

Small, unpretentious brilliant Japanese food, with both outstanding sushi and cooked food, superior service, reasonable prices. A great find.

Yummy, yummy, yummy! That is all I have to say! I went with a friend for lunch. Easy, free parking, no wait, and pleasant staff. I ordered one of the Japanese "lunch boxes." Holy moly delish. There was sashimi, boiled veggies, tempura, grilled chicken, this seriously amazing potato salad, and a tuna roll. I was in Heaven. It was maybe... More

Similar to Itacho, this is an incredible Japanese Restaurant that serves Ikazaya style dishes. If you don't know what that is, look it up. This is a particular style of Japanese food that specializes in "home-style" small dishes that go with drinks. Some of the dishes are the finest versions available in the US. This is "Japanese Tapas" that originated... More
