In spite of eating quite well at home amidst the stay-at-home pandemic, thanks to my wife’s culinary skills, we decided it was time to take a break and support a local Long Beach restaurant, L’Opera, for some fine dining takeout. We’ve dined there for many, many years and have celebrated milestones as well merely going on impulse. The takeaway menu is straightforward, ordering and paying by phone was simple (no exchanging a credit card and invoice necessary) and curbside pickup was ready exactly when I was told it would be. I had barramundi with a caper sauce, my wife ordered filet medallions; both were excellently prepared and presented (even if the were in boxes). Perfectly prepared vegetables accompanied the mains along with two dinner salads and bread. We didn’t buy wine but were told it’s available at a considerable price reduction compared to normal. We missed the bustle of the dining room, watching light rail trains coming and going out the window but those and L’Opera will be there when normal returns. In the mean time, treat yourself to an elegant meal, maybe the best drive through in Long Beach!

I had the expensive ($25) 3 course lunch here in January and again in February 2020 and it was fabulous both times! House salad, warm foccacia w/olive oil & herbs, chicken parm w/grilled asparagus and spaghetti, and the most beautiful delicious panecotta on earth. The service was good, and the flavor and presentation of the food made it well worth the money. I'd definitely go back next time I'm working in Long Beach.

If this were my last supper, I would want it to be no other place than L'Opera in Long Beach. Unfortunaetly because of the state-wide closures on restaurants my vist was probably one of the last suppers they served. In a beautiful restauirant with only 5 or so tables filled, one must feel for the owners who see a wonderful business that could eventually not re-appear after the pandemic eases. But lets get to the food asnd the service. Service was great, waiter knew everything about the menu and the specials that night. Nothing is better than good service, sometimes it actually makes the food taste better. In this case, the food was equal to the task. We started with a caeser salad that was just perfect. The table had an assortment of entrees from a pasta bolognesa which was great, lasagna, and I had the veal chop which was exactly what a veal chop should be. When the coronavirys is a memory, please support this restauran as it belongs in the top restaurants in Long Beach category. And on top of that is Sam the super tenor who makes you feel like you are actually eating in Italy

Visited on a pre cruise stay in Long Beach . Based on the reviews we were expecting more. The food was ok to good but not exceptional, service was the same.In terms of value for money we felt it overpriced .

This is a must stop if you are looking for delicious Italian food. We are in Long Beach unfortunately only once a year for the Indy Car Grand Prix, but I always make a reservation 6-8 weeks in advance. This is a very popular spot and chances of getting seated as a walk in during race weekend are slim to none. For an hour or so you can eat dinner and quietly look around the room and see many Race Car drivers or Team Owners. This year we were very happy to see some of the employees from previous years, even with the temporary closure from Covid. Says a lot about a business that can keep employees through difficult times. Your food is always prepared individually so minor changes are not a problem for the kitchen. If you’re not sure about a choice, the server has never steered us wrong with a recommendation. Very large wine selection will appeal to any taste. With as full as the restaurant gets, somehow it doesn’t get extremely noisy. Always a wonderful dinner and expected prices for the food and atmosphere.

L'Opera is a beautiful ristorante inside and out. It is a good place to take a special date, spouse, visitors. It is also appropriate for family celebrations and business groups. It is within a block of the Long Beach Performing Arts Center, International City Theatre, Long Beach Symphony, and the Long Beach Convention Center. The bartenders know how to make a good mixed drink and the wine selection is good. You will also enjoy the Italian food due to its authentic flavors and fresh ingredients. One becomes part of the kind L'Opera Family with time.

We had a party of 5 on a Friday night. YES - a reservation! The service is attentive and the opera singers coming around occasionally singing Italian opera really makes the atmosphere something special. I enjoyed the caprese appetizer (mouth watering home made mozzarella!) and fresh cherry tomato, basil and pesto paste. Also calamari. I had butternut squash ravioli with sage butter sauce around the outside (crystallized sage!) and then a small amount of tomato based sauce in the middle. The ravioli were not your typical square- they were striae’s little pockets. Yum!! Other’s ordered seafood pasta, lamb, veal piccata, and all said theirs was delicious too! The waiter was helpful in picking the right wine with our taste in mind and did not just point at the most expensive one - even held up a flashlight to see the menu better.

Valet parking out front, so don't worry about that! Incredible atmosphere inside - energetic, stylish, refined, but fun, too. Great food - some hits, some misses, but totally yummy!! The Opera Singer is INCREDIBLE and adds to the entertainment and atmosphere of the restaurant - just astounding. The service was professional and prompt and attentive without being overbearing or stuffy. Loved the meal and huge wine selection, too. Great location for a date, anniversary, or just because!!

We have lived and worked in Long Beach for a long time, but had never tried L'Opera. Big mistake. We went there last night for a birthday celebration mostly because it was one of the only nice restaurants open on Monday night. When we got there, it was absolutely packed with conventioneers. We thought about leaving because we could not believe we would have decent service or food on such a crowded night. To our great surprise, the food and service were wonderful--could not have been better. We will definitely be back often, but maybe next time we will make sure there are no conventions in town so we can enjoy the ambience even more.

This was our first time dining at L'Opera and we are so happy we chose this restaurant. Not only was the Italian food authentic and delicious but the wine list was exceptional and the service outstanding. We had such a great meal here before a show at the Long Beach Terrace. They were super attentive to our need to be on time but we never felt rushed. The lasagna was so good and a good size portion. My husband had the Osso Buco and said it was one of the best he's enjoyed. We enjoyed chatting about the wines with their sommelier and we are already planning to return!

My husband and I decided to book this restaurant for a meal with friends because the menu looked great and had vegan options that would work for our friend. It surpassed all expectations; so much so that we booked for the following night as well. We had the same waiter both nights - Scott Fisher - who was also a sommelier and gave us excellent advice on our wine pairing choices. The entire staff worked like a well-oiled machine, and the food was out of this world. I just wish we weren’t heading home tomorrow….

My husband and I ordered the bruschetta to start, and the flavors were super good but the "burnt" bread flavor was a little too strong for us. The tomatoes were fresh and the sauces were really good. For our main dish we ordered the Cappellacci di Zucca and the Lasagna di Pollo. If you like butternut squash then this dish is the one you want! Honestly, it ranks on my top 5 for homemade pastas. I've traveled a lot of places and would highly recommend this place!

Came here for dinner as it was recommended by a friend. It was Delicious! They give you fresh hot bread with an herb dipping oil at the table. We had the short rib ravioli and chicken lasagna and cheesecake for dessert. All of it was so great. Service couldn't of been better. Difinately will be back.

First of all, I made a reservation for a party of 10 on a Tuesday for the upcoming Friday -- and could get in! I was a little surprised. Especially when we got there and it was packed with Friday night diners. Anyway, that was great. My one negative is that service was a little slow. Because it was packed, is my guess. We had a nice table by a window, the ambiance was great, it wasn't too noisy despite being a big and full room. Oh, they have a singer who will sing Italian songs for your table if you ask him to. He was very loud. Big booming voice. But that was not constant, just occasionally. Food was very good. Appetizers, pasta and mains, even dessert. We all really enjoyed our evening. Lots of parking nearby in parking garages. Nobody was drinking at this meal, so can't comment on the wine list or anything like that.
