the place was BUSY long line and somewhat of a wait. they have a variety menu. I ordered the chicken taquitos w/ flour tortillas and they were pleasantly enjoyable. their a la carte tacos were big portion. they also have ice cream, you can get...it on a cone or cup, shakes and Hawaiian shaved flavored ice. the entire time we were there there was a line. it looks like its a locals go to spot.More
We ordered to go, my husband ordered the green chili wet burrito and I the carne asada nachos. My husband said the burrito was really good, I unfortunately was super disappointed with my nachos.
The nacho chips themselves were soggy and we had no other...choice but to use a fork to eat what I/we could. They put beans on the nachos, should've asked for no beans and no pico, the chips were super thin and very bland, the sour cream taseted off, the guacamole was ok and the carne asada was very much full of fat and not really much actual meat. Very disappointed with my meal.More
And so is everything else! Super fresh food, all prepared while you wait munching on homemade tortilla chips and good salsa. We all had a great meal and very friendly service. Will definitely return for more.
We order our food and walk across the park and eat on the rocks at the Kern River. Typical Mexican menu, with delicious food cooked to order. You can also dine inside, but who wants to? This restaurant is at the end of Riverside Park,...so a beautiful walk awaits!More
El Rio is located opposite the Kern River Park, close to the Shell station. It is a small restaurant with about 8 tables inside, but also has an outside, walkup order area (like Costco) where the same items are available as on the inside. There...is also outside seating available for these walkups. Most of these seats have a Riverpark view. The menu has the usual Mexican food items, combo specials include rice and beans and average around $10. Many a la carte items (tacos, burritos, enchiladas, chile rellenos) average from $4-9. Non alcoholic beverages around $2.50. My shredded beef burrito, which was part of the combo was exceptional. Unlike most shredded beef which is brown, stringy, overcooked and has lost all flavor, this one was reddish and tasted delicious... almost like pastrami. The rice was good, but I have had better refried beans. The burrito was covered in a mole type enchilada sauce which was not your typical out of the can sauce and really complemented the yummy shredded beef. My son's carne asada burrito for $8.50 was both big and good. They have shakes and malts outside for around $4, but we were too full to sample these.
The waitress took my order within 5 minutes, and brought our dinner in an additional 15. Go if you are craving good Mexican food at reasonable prices, with efficient service.More
