At the recommendation of a friend we had a pre valentine dinner at this restaurant. While the service was speedy it lacked sophistication. The waitress was eager but when it came to wine she had no clue what was on the menu. The meals were enjoyed by all. Generous portions and hot. My large shrimp still had shells on which... More

Probably the very best shrimp poppers and chile rellenos we have ever had anywhere in the Americas. The fajitas were outstanding and the service excellent. Thank you!!!

A friend of mine told me about this out of the way place in Indio. He said to be sure to try the shrimp stuffed peppers. I did - and he was right - they were unusual but oh so good! And even better, this place is owned by a woman and her daughter and I love to support women-owned... More

Great Mexican food. In the appetizers be sure to have the small stuffed peppers with shrimp. Like nothing you have ever had before. You could make this your entire meal. The sangria was ok.

Not pretentious, small family style restaurant. Outstanding food, very good service, full bar. Do not pass up if you want excellent Mexican food at a reasonable price if you're in the greater Coachella Valley area

Feels like a family owned diner right beside a railway track. Nothing pretentious. You're there to eat eat eat! Great chili rellenos and chilliquilies. Popular with locals which is a good sign. We ate there 4 times - more than any other place in the month we were there.

Have been coming to El Mexicali Cafe for several years... Family owned and operated business. Food and Service is tops... They go out of their way to make you fell wanted and satisfied.... my favorite is the "stuffed peppers".. Go, you won't be disappointed.

We stopped on our recent vacation while traveling south of Joshua Tree. Not knowing what to expect we followed reviews and took a chance. Service was fast and friendly. The restaurant was clean and charming. Really the best reason to stop is for the food. Between us, we tried a variety of items, all good. Chillies Relliano was great, but... More

Great food and friendly service. Enjoyed our meals - even the rice and refried beans were outstanding. The train passing by added to our fun evening. Will be back

Description
We specialize in serving authentic Mexican food from secret family recipes, including seafood specialties, plus cocktails from a full bar!

Our Chiles Gueritos are a popular local favorite - shrimp stuffed yellow peppers topped with mayo and soy sauce. Our restaurant offers a unique dining experience that's just like eating at home with family and friends. The "Shake, Rattle, and Roll" of the trains passing by on the train tracks behind us is also something you'll never forget!

Opened in 1981, El Mexicali Cafe on Indio Blvd. Is one of the longest-running woman-owned eateries in the Coachella Valley. El Mexicali Cafe Day was establishes on March 19 in the City of Indio, and you can typically count on something special at the restaurant to celebrate the occasion.
