Drove passed this restaurant for years and finally able to make time to eat here. Met a long ago friend for lunch. Stayed till they turned off the lights to clean up for the dinner rush. I just came back from the dentist so I was only able to order really soft food. Had the Salmon Teriyaki with Tempura and Califoria sushi. Mushi soup and rice comes with it. I really wanted the Unagi Donbur but it was priced at $20 – too steep for my budget. Tables were spread apart and they are doing a great take out business. Will return in the future.

Once you try you'll not stop craving for more. The sashimi are real pieces, thick and very fresh, it practically melts in your mouth. The Titanic roll topped with tuna and salmon and that wondrous spicy crab is to die for!! Uni is at its best here, it's freshness is guaranteed. The Udons will not only warm your gut but also your heart. My favorite Bento box is beef teriyaki with mixed tempura or sashimi. And the price....very reasonable!!!!

Sushi Ichimoto has become our go to place for Japanese food. I'm not much on Sushi but the tempura and teriyaki Chicken was great. It even included a little vegetable medley that it didn't have before. My wife tried the Tiger Roll for the first time and said it was great.

I just finished a Chicken Katsu with Sushi bento box. What a great lunch. Kind of a lot. Came with three pieces of Cali roll, salad, rice, very tender chicken katsu, and four thick slices of sushi (2 salmon, 2 tuna). The salad dressing was tasty and the wasabi was fairly mild (tho I like it really hot). Presentation was nice and the service was pleasant and prompt. It's close to 880, on West A St. It is easy to find and lots of parking.

Ray's Sushi was here previously but our friends recommended this place for dinner so we decided to give it a try. Complimentary edamame and hot tea was served and once we ordered, we promptly received salad (tasty dressing) and hot miso soup. We ordered the Under the Sea Sushi, Chicken teriyaki and sashimi dinner combo, tonkatsu, and Tempura and Chicken Katsu. Portions were hearty and good. The sashimi slices were fresh and ample. Tempura batter was crispy and light. The restaurant is nicely decorated and clean. Service was good.

This was previously Ray's Sushi, now reopened with new owners and management. My wife is from Japan, and this is her favorite local sushi bar. That's high praise, especially since their sushi men and cooks are all Chinese. They have learned to prepare Japanese cuisine very well.

This is one of our first choices for eating out. The staff is super friendly, the food is healthy, the prices are reasonable, the sushi is very fresh, and the selection is great. You name it - it's here - can't go wrong. Never had a bad meal, everything is delicious, and the portion sizes are superior. This was formerly Ray's Sushi and many of the folks stayed when ownership changed; we also went down the street to where some of the others went, but we like it here better. They offer yummy specials, good beer and saki, and attentive service. Be sure to check this place out!

Skilled chef, quiet, comfortable atmosphere. On Wednesdays and Thursdays oysters for $1 each is hard to beat. Plenty of parking

We have been patrons of Ichimoto since they took over the space from Ray's. While I was sad to see Ray's go... I love the people who work at Ichimoto! They totally make the experience and make us feel like family! In addition to being open on Monday, which is often a rarity, the food is yummy and the experience is awesome!

Came here close to closing time. I felt bad sitting to eat since they were cleaning up and I didn't want to be "that" customer chowing down while the employees were waiting to get home - as a result I decided to take it to go. I ordered a roll which was covered in real sushi and was delicious. It was also huge! I ordered a second roll to be safe but the first one filled me up. I would definitely be back if I lived in Hayward. The hostess was super friendly and cute!

Get here early as it tends to get crowded and parking can be packed as well. Formerly at the location of Ray's Sushi, it has mainly the same helpful and veteran staff. They are friendly and willing to serve quickly. The sushi is fresh and has some seafood from Japan. You'll need to check the daily menu board. If you want sushi that is in the Hayward area, this is the place. Take out is timely, but check your order before you leave. It's near the SkyWest Golf Course, so it's near by for a large cold beer and sushi.

I was in Hayward for the day, and looking for a place to have lunch. I stopped in at this restaurant, having eaten here many times when it was Ray's Sushi. The exterior of the restaurant looked nicer than when it was Ray's, which was promising. But the food was a little disappointing. When I walked in, I noticed a slight fishy smell. Shouldn't be a surprise in a sushi restaurant, although the better restaurants don't seem to have that smell. The service was prompt, and the server was very polite and helpful. A dish of boiled edamame was provided while I was perusing the menu. The menu itself was quite worn and frayed, but it was extensive. I ordered the sashimi lunch special, and was served 6 generously-sized pieces of fish - salmon, ahi tuna, and hamachi - plus a six piece spicy tuna roll. It would have been helpful to have the fish sliced into smaller pieces; each piece was too big to eat in one bite. One of the pieces of hamachi was fishy tasting. The rest of the fish tasted fresh, though the texture was a little mushy. The spicy tuna roll was very tasty, but the seaweed wrapping was chewy, making it messy to eat. The meal came with miso soup, and I ordered a glass of iced tea, which was freshly brewed and delicious. Overall, I had a pleasant dining experience. I didn't feel rushed, and the atmosphere was quiet and calming. I noticed that they have a traditional Japanese dining area towards the back of the restaurant, with low tables and seating on the floor. That looked like a nice option. If I lived in the area, I'd be inclined to give this place another try at dinner time.

Don't let the Japanese name fool you. This is not authentic JAPANESE food. Sushi meats looked good but lacked the most important factor, seasoned rice (su). Sashimi served without the artfyl slicing typically found at a good sushiya-san. Tempura you best choice. Don't go for bland soup based choices. Ray's was much better. We won't be back. Overpriced for the fare.
