We were turned onto da Giavvanni by a friend and were not disappointed. The food and evic were quite good. The meals were freshly cooked, and served on hot plates which kept the food hot throughout. Very enjoyable. Reminded me of an old-fashioned NY restaurant in the heart of Carmel.

We are here for the first time a year ago and loved this restaurant so decided to eat here again on 10/8. Wonderful food and excellent service. Apologies but forgot the name of our server but she was the front person, the order taker and the server on a pretty busy Sat evening! Big 👍 to her for keeping calm... More

This restaurant can be a little tricky to find but I rather like that it's away from the main hustle and bustle. Food is great, service is great, wine pours are generous! Their seafood stew / Cioppino is great. Only thing that always bothers me is the lighting. Whilst it's low (which is always a good thing) it sort of... More

We visited daGiovanni in February on a night the power went out. That unusual adventure was noted in another review. So on a clear night in September we gave it another try and are happy we did. The upstairs dining room is small and charming. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. They customized the side dishes for both of... More

This restaurant appears to have a loyal clientele. However, it was a little too heavy for my tastes. Service was friendly and accommodating. Dining room was small and fairly quiet. It seemed a bit pricey for what it was. I also did not like that wines by the glass were limited. They had their own label wine that they were... More

Being gluten free can be challenging when it comes to finding pasta or breads that taste like the real thing. Especially in a restaurant that does not specialize in this type of meal. DaDiovanni serves a gluten free chicken and kale ravioli, choice of sauce and I had the red sauce, and it was fabulous. The flavors and texture were... More

We were in Carmel for 5 days and ate at da Giovanni's for dinner twice. The food is amazing, a small quaint restaurant with wonderful service and worth making a reservation for.

With more than 100 restaurants in a six-block radius, choosing a restaurant in Carmel can be difficult. This should be at the top of your list. We started with a lovely tomato soup (hit the spot on an unseasonably chilly night). My husband had sand dabs, expertly prepared with a lemon caper sauce (It turned out to be his favorite... More

Ended up here on a whim. I have food allergies (gluten and seafood) and it can be a bit of a challenge to find a restaurant that has a menu that doesn't just offer me salad or steak. By far the best italian meal I have had out since having to go GF. They have a GF pizza crust and... More

If you like being nestled among towering pines while enjoying Carmel ocean views and spectacular sunsets, or dining at romantic tables in cliffside Mediterranean cafes, da Giovanni is your place. Firok Shield and his restaurant family operate this Carmel restaurant with careful attention to detail and a love of hospitality, offering a fusion of recipes handed down from his grandmother, such as Insalata Greca or Osso Buco. It's no wonder da Giovanni is one of the most highly recommended.
