Forced to doing a return to reviews on tripadvisor by my simply worst meal in a month. From a salad swimming in vinegar, thumped down on the table, to a main (chicken Marco Polo, I opted for vegetables instead of noodles) swimming in sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Piping hot, but veg not cooked (and I like them a bit crisp),... More

As a long time visitor to and resident of Carlsbad, I have often eaten at Jays, even years before when it was called Ollies. It is a busy, somewhat small and therefore more intimate, but casual restaurant with very good food and very good service. Good seafood, pizzas and other pasta dishes and sauces. Parking is tight in its small... More

My wife and I shared the cioppino and it was superb. Full of a variety of seafood. My wife is an excellent cook and she commented that the homemade sauce in this dish was about the best she has ever had! It also had great local atmosphere.

Returned to Jay's after having been gone a few years. Good, fresh, tasty seafood with pasta. Good sauces with the seafood. Very large portions. Piazza also looked good, but we prefer seafood. Small, loud and bustling, service was attentive with the whole team involved. Soup or salad with dinner is unimpressive and quite frankly unnecessary, not up to standard of... More

My wife and I revisited Jays after 18 years away. It was a special homecoming date night. But although the place has been spruced up a little, it's prices are NOT in line with the casual atmosphere. I looked at the menu and said "oh my...this has changed!" It's basically a long bar with a dining area and pass-through kitchen... More

The family stopped in for dinner. What a cozy restaurant! No fancy tablecloths - I suspect some would walk right by. The staff was so friendly. It felt like a neighborhood eatery. I had scallops with linguini, hubby angel hair with white clam sauce while daughter opted for chicken parm and son in law chicken marsela. All agreed that the... More

Got a carryout of 3 item large pizza and an antipasto salad. $40 with no beverage. Pizza was like all others in this area, thin crust. We prefer deep dish but could not find one. This pizza had zero flavor in the crust and seemed to lack tomato sauce. One of the most disappointing pizzas we've ever had. The antipasto... More

Besides being less than a block away from where we stayed, their pizza IS TO DIE FOR. Period. Awesome pies, great craft beers and stellar service made this place an excellent find for us while away. If you're ever in Carlsbad, see the ocean sunset - of course - and then walk over to Jay's for a great pizza afterward,... More

The food and service are excellent in this small local family restaurant but the acoustics were bad and it was very noisy which made it difficult to talk with my dining companion. If hearing is not a problem for you then this is the place for great pasta, pizza , seafood. We had scallops and shrimp over linguini with white... More
