Service was excellent, friendly and smiles all around. All you scan stomach salad and soup, very nice steak and baked potato with sour cream and butter, style was pretty 1960's but our group had a great time and good food

Wonderful old place, like a giant log cabin, dark wood and lots of history. Food is good and reasonably priced, prime rib for $22, I believe, including one trip to the salad & soup bar.

The Prime Rib is one of the best I have ever had. It was cooked exactly as I ordered. It was tender and flavorful. We ate there several times this summer and found the food excellent. My husband thought the king crab legs were among...More

The ambiance and interior decor of this place is a throw back to the turn of the century but with class. The food was very good and drinks not too bad either. I recommend the steak.

Historic restaurant, great story and a ghost. Ask the staff. Super large restaurant so little wait and plenty of parking in lot. Family and date friendly. Salad bar was mediocre (iceberg lettuce and very basic selections - if an awesome salad bar is your thing...More

Our hotel recommended we try this place and told us it had a ghost. I think he stole our money and a fork. It was really NOT amazing. Our main courses were average. The salad bar was mediocre, nothing special at all. Our sides of...More

Unfortunately, this was a super expensive dinner for basically soup and salad. It is apparent people are paying for the "ghost George". While the soups were good- the salad bar was iceberg lettuce with some cabbage thrown in. A small selection of other veggies to...More

Went there tonight and our party of four had the 8oz prime rib.. We were a little surprised that the prices were higher than what the menu said that I had looked up on the Internet (must of been an old price menu). We did...More

We were there for dinner on a Saturday evening in June. It was busy, and the average age of the customers was around 60 years (younger than me, btw). It's a so-called "traditional American" place; rather dark inside, dim lighting, wood panelling everywhere. The menu...More

This restaurant is part of the history of Big Bear. A very friendly place as a visitor, but also used by the locals. Their motto is "every hour is cocktail hour" and it is true. Start your visit in the bar and share a cocktail...More

Historic Big Bear is alive at the Captain's Anchorage----complete with a ghost named George. The restaurant has been a tradition in Big Bear since 1946. Originally called the Sportsman's Tavern, the Captain's Anchorage has enjoyed visits by Hollywood celebrities, weathered fires, and has hosted gambling and the ghost of a former employee.Today, the rustic stone and log building invites guests to enjoy a good meal in a comfortable atmosphere. Enjoy cocktails and appetizers in the Andy Devine bar, or stay for dinner in the dining room. Every meal comes with the soup and salad bar, even the under $20.00 dinners.Visit the website for the menu and for more stories about the history of Big Bear and the Captain's Anchorage Restaurant.
