PRODUCE: Berkeley Bowl can't be beat for produce. While "traditional" grocery stores have one type of strawberry, or one type of mango, Berkeley bowl has an entire row of all different varieties, from different farms. I myself have become a mango snob and will never...eat a Tommy Atkins mango again (Manila's and Hayden only for me!). The produce is separated by locale as well, so often you know what region each fruit comes from. The quality of fruit is unmatched between "traditional" grocers like Safeway, Trader Joe's, or Sprouts. Did I mention that the produce is CHEAP? ORGANIC PRODUCE: The organic produce is so expansive that they have their entire section. For people who shop organic, they only need to go to one section and get all of their produce. BULK FOODS: I'm a big fan of bulk food, and Berkeley Bowl has quite an expansive selection. Everything from grains (quinoa, rice), herbs and spices, snacks (sesame sticks, wasabi snacks), nuts and granola, dehydrated soups, pasta, beans, etc. etc. etc. Less waste, less cost, and you can get exactly how much you want. ASIAN GROCERIES: A pretty expansive aisle of asian groceries, much more than traditional stores. It holds me over until I can hit up an actual Asian grocery stores. PANTRY: I usually buy my pantry items elsewhere as they can be a bit more expensive at Berkeley Bowl (e.g. staples like greek yogurt, cereal, hummus, etc.). They also tend to have more of the healthy brands, so I don't know if they'd have things like Kellogg's cereals (can't remember, as I never buy these here anyway). OTHER: There are other sections that I typically don't use myself, such as fresh fish and meats, cheese section, olive bar, etc. But they seem nice.More

Seriously, I don't think I've ever seen so many different varieties of fresh apricots! My sis-in-law loves to shop there and wanted me to experience it while I was in town. Our plan had been to dine there, too, but that section has not yet...been re-opened. That was okay - I bought items to try and we had a nice lunch at home with those!More

I LOVE shopping at Berkeley Bowl for so many things but my favorites are the produce and the bulk foods. They have such a large selection of organic and regular produce that's fresh and due to the large selection you'll find types that you won't...see at other stores. For example, during apple season in the fall you might find over ten different types. The bulk food selection is like no other. Lots of variety of nuts, spices, dried fruits, beans, etc. Yes this place can be packed with patrons and the parking difficult so if you have time try and go during off peak times. A fun store to wander around and experiment with new types of produce!More

They have everything that you can imagine, and for the most part is all organic. If there is something that you need it will be there, just to give you an example, the species that they have there are non- irradiated, what it is rare...to find.More

Very large section of Organic Produce. A variety of organic meats available too. Go when then open, gets very crowded later on. Some people block aisles by leaving their chart to go find something, most annoying. Some drivers just sit in the parking, backing up...traffic, while waiting for someone to pull out of a parking space, quite rude and inconvenient for others. .More

I demurred last year when friends suggested a trip to Berkeley Bowl. This year, I joined them and was pleasantly surprised! It’s fruit and veggie porn. A cornucopia. Beautiful and abundant and diverse fruit and veggies, as well as sumptuous baked goods. My little secret...is that I went twice in three days. Give it a go.More

This is not a restaurant, although you can have a fine meal at the on-site cafeteria. It is the most amaing supermarket I know. The variety of produce is unmatched anywhere in Northern California (fabulous choice of mushrooms, peppers, vegetables, fruit, etc.) The deli counter...is astounding. And there are meats, nuts, you name it. You have to go there to experience it!More

Berkeley Bowl is an event not just a grocery shop. It has everything, including items from local producers. It has the best organic selection - there is an organic version of almost everything. Their store brands are as good and in most cases better than..."known" brands. for me it is a weekly pilgrimage. I prefer Berkeley Bowl West because parking is a bit easier. They also have a wonderful Cafe with great food to eat in, take home, or for lunches during the week.More

Gotta come here for some stuff. It's expensive, but you can always amuse yourself with people watching while you're shopping.
