I was not impressed with the food. I was very disappointed with food considering the food chain that owns the restaurant. Slow service.

We had read reviews before going to Berkeley and expected service to be sub-par based on that. However, when we waited at a table in the bar for 15 minutes before going up to the bar counter and ordering for ourselves there, then another 30 minutes before server sat us at one of several empty tables, then 30 minutes before... Passing by at lunchtime & felt like seafood so dropped in for a beverage & a bite to eat. Cavernous space and dripping with sea-faring paraphernalia. Our waiter was lovely & my mojito was delightful but the drinks took an age to arrive. Mr Despot had crumbed fish which was dry & over-fried. Mrs Despot had the seafood bisque which... More

Nostalgia made me want to give this 5 stars, but no. Decor is nicely updated in this place that has been a popular sea food restaurant since the time when the owner's went out every morning and caught the fish of the day more than 50 years ago. The interior displays are like a mini museum with model fishing boats,... More

Our family and friends have been eating at Spengers going back to the 60's, but not so much afterit became part of McCormick & Schmicks. After many years of passing it up for our family get together we decided to give it another try. The Classic Louis Salad with dungeness crab was just OK but be careful for pieces of... More

If you are in the mood for very good (if not great) seafood, take a quick trip over the BayBridge into Berkeley and dine at Spenger's. A Berkeley staple for years, the menu is great, the service is topnotch, and the food will make you happy you took the trip. Free parking across the street from their establishment, being a... More

Years since the last visit, my memory that it was not so expensive then. If I had read the description, I would have paid more for grilled fish. Otherwise, comfortable and clean.

Older and a pleasant surprise. Menu was fantastic. Food was prepared wonderfully. Only negative was being upsold to a dinner portion of the Sea Bass & getting more rice but being charged more than double the price. Left us disappointed in the experience. I would return & love being a Landry's member.

After spending a week in the area, we ate here 3 times! All appetizers were great! Good drink selection. Daily specials, definitely go on Tuesdays for fish tacos, you'll thank me! My party of 4 tried several different dinners and was very pleased. Service is slightly better in the dinning room. Will visit again if in the area!

Spengers has been around forever and they make you wait forever for service. Not the first time either. But you have to love the place for its old authenticity and history. As to the food, it's average. Calamari was decent, if not a bit overbreaded. The tuna melt was not served warm as it should be. Cheese was barely melted... More
