La Notte is our go-to restaurant when we can't think of anywhere else to or we find ourselves downtown Berkeley with way too many choices and limited decision making power. Fool always well prepared and tasty. A bit noisy on weekends, it's a popular spot. No frills or unnecessary amenities, just good food at reasonable prices. Nuf said.

La Note is something of an East Bay (maybe Berkeley, most of all) institution. On Shattuck Avenue, in the heart of downtown Berkeley, it's easily reached by pubic transportation (bus, BART) and is a gathering place of significance for faculty at Cal, for visiting family members, and for groups (small numbers are probably the easiest to manage). The menu is... More

It seems kind of unnecessary to review La Note. The crowd gathered outside the door during brunch hours speaks for itself. It may take a while to get seated (especially if you want to sit on their beautiful patio out back) but they make the wait fairly painless by taking your phone number and contacting you when it’s your time.... The decor is very French with backyard seating in mild weather. All sorts of special omelets, French toast, pancakes and homemade croissants are available with real maple syrup and homemade preserves. Everything is delicious with great service. They are open every day and reservations are advised. Dinner is served only Thursday through Saturday. It has been a while since I... More

Thanks to a recommendation from the staff at my hotel, I tried this French restaurant. The food was AMAZING and it was a very French experience. Come hungry; the portions are huge. The food is sooooo good.

Enjoyed a late mid morning breakfast here in a mood to remind us of our many times we have enjoyed dining in France! We had a seat in the window so that all passing by could see us! Plenty of room mid morning weekdays and enjoyed a Cote Sud which is two eggs with potatoes and spicy merguez sausage, along... More

We were headed for Berkeley on Saturday morning so decided to try this restaurant for breakfast. The look of the restaurant has a French cafe flair; tables are tight. As suspected, our name went on the waiting list and we were told 45 minutes. Also, told we could wait or come back. If our name was passed upon our return,... More

Really like this place for brunch, but the wait time for a table means we don't go as much as we would like nowadays.

A friend took me to La Note for one of our breakfast hangouts in late December 2016 and I fell in love. The French feel and tasty food has kept me coming back once a month since I first went there. I always recommend the roasted potatoes with the garlic cloves. I usually get the Les Oeuf Maison but the... More

I like La Note and others do, too; it is always packed. The nicest thing is the French feel. The food is decent, but not great. Croissants could be crisper and the chocolate ones should be warmed up (chocolate can be ice cold). Coffee good; like cafe creme in a bowl. Eggs fine. Haven't tried the pain Perdue.
