We were staying in a hotel without a restaurant, so we ordered from a delivery service. The food was good enough, a bit more upscale and well-seasoned than your usual taco place. The guacamole was particularly tasty.
I have ordered their barbacoa burrito and their grilled chicken burrito. Both of them were delicious! I loved the chips and salsa. The method to order right now is only online, not in person.
Now the things to note: if you expect the salsas to...be spicy- don't. Really wish they had the option for more spiciness, it would go so nicely with the burritos I ordered. Next, they do not let you comment or customize through their online portal to order: which in this case if you are allergic to anything I am not sure how you can communicate this to the chefs.
The location is very accessible by walking, but parking in downtown Berkeley overall is rough. I recommend finding a spot on University/Oxford that is where I have seen open spots frequently.More
Tried delivery tonight during COVID-19. My card got charged $200. i received delay notices for 4 hours until a message that the food has been delivered. 5 phone calls went unanswered. i would avoid this place unless you can do walk-up. I can't get a...refund issued. I had no food. My Chase Sapphire cars also is closed for processing refunds. Unless you want to waste your evening & your next day, please go elsewhere. there are plenty of good restaurants nearby.More
We were seated at the doorway to the open area and it was a little chilly. Overall it’s a noisy place on a Friday night. The appetizer of jicama and cucumber spears was overly spicy and not interesting. The salad was exquisite with citrus and...lettuces. Our tamale was dry although the mole sauce on top was delicious. The fish taco was good. Our friends shared the grilled fish and it was tasty. We all shared the flan and it was worth the visit. The creamiest flan I’ve had in a long time.More
We have been eating at Comal every 1-2 months since it opened and we have found it to be consistently good-excellent. But our last meal was a disappointment for two reasons. One of the two dishes we had was not as good as on previous...occasions; the other was the extremely high prices for rather ordinary wines. We paid $44 for a bottle of Casa-Laserra Rose which was OK but it retails for ~$8. That is a ridiculous mark-up. Comal used to serve better quality wines for a bit less money with a more standard 2-3 fold mark up.More
Fun location and good food. The menu offers many interesting choices and the food has a great smoky taste to it. Service is friendly and fast. Although it’s crowded the noise doesn’t overwhelm and you can easily have a conversation with people around your table.
This restaurant was supposedly unusual and creative - the food made me so violently ill, with terrible cramps and throwing up, I thought I would have to go to the emergency room of a hospital. After self-medicating, I finally was OK. What an ordeal!
Please do not visit this shambolic establishment. I don’t wish to rant but the staff are extremely arrogant and borderline discriminatory to certain customers. They ruined what was potentially a lovely evening so we had no appetite when the food arrived. Please stay away and...do not waste your money.More

We just had a couple of small plates, and drinks. I concur with the previous answers, although I will say that we had dinner at another restaurant in Berkeley that cost even more, and we wish we had eaten at Comal instead!
