This is one of our favorite lunch venues in Berkeley and the 4th Street area. If you don't mind sitting at the counter or bar you can save yourself a half hour wait for a table.

Looked for a friendly casual dining atmosphere. Zut checked out on all the boxes. Nice simple menu, not complicated. Great tasting food, great beer selection and clean flavors in the food.

Zut is a very nice small, cozy restaurant. I went with 2 other friends. We wanted to try their Chicken, but unfortunately the ran out. We sat at the bar because there was an hour and half wait time for a table. The bartender recommended a few entrees. The drinks were amazing. The menu didn't have a large selection, but... More

We also wanted to go to Betty's but the wait was long, and it was pouring outside. Also what we saw people having didn't appeal to us. Don't know what we thought a diner would be... So with a break in the rain we dashed to Zut! Across the street. It looked very nice. They had a wide lunch menu,... More

Bette's Diner had such a long wait at lunchtime that we decided to try Zut! across the street. Our first choice would have been Cafe Rouge, but it closed at the end of December 2016! A couple at the next table recommended the crispy Brussels sprouts as starter, and they were delicious. We ordered the pancetta, wild mushroom, arugula pizza... More

Xmas holidays is such a good time to visit this restaurant on 4th street because the street is magical at this time of year ... delightful lights encircling and dripping from the trees. The restaurant was very crowded because of this, I think. The food is inconsistent. I had the crab salad which was very good, complex with fennel, mandarin... More

I had meetings in Berkeley and friend suggested Zut! The restaurant is good and server was attentive. My friend had a potato gnochi, which she loved. I had a seared tuna salad which was good, but not great.

The staff at Zut knows how to make guests feel welcome. David sat us at the bar while we waited for our table and generously brought us a complimentary beverage. We ordered the garlic fries while waiting and they were delicious, with big chunks of garlic. Once we were seated, Aurianne was our very knowledgeable waitress went out of her... More

The decor and atmosphere of Zut is beautiful. Indoor and outdoor seating options, weather permitting. Service was attentive. Food however, while pretty, was disappointing. No bread was served or offered. Salad nicoise interpretation of tuna salad appetizer was bland. Artichoke appetizer was very salty. The pizza with eggplant and sirachi sauce tasted like plain pizza with spicy sauce, nothing special.... More

I made a reservation and met a friend for brunch on a Sunday. It was too noisy to converse and the table that looked like a nice one by the window was about 6 inches from the next table. The waitress stood between our tables to speak to the two folks sitting there and her body was in my face.... More
