I visited this place and experienced horrible service. I had to literally hunt down a person simply to get water. The waitstaff were oblivious to us and I suspect this was because we were white and we were the only white people in the restaurant....Racist staff.More

Four of us enjoyed dinner. The taco salads are huge and very delicious. The service was good and the decor is nice. Try and save room for dessert-pies are awesome.

Great place to eat at any time! You can get your best meal here, but the best is the apple gobblet. They have great service, atmosphere and food in the same place

My husband and i have just spent 3 weeks driving around California (from Sydney Australia) and we were in Bakersfield overnight and googled a place for breakfast and found this one. We didn't always experience friendly service on our trip but we did here! It...was so busy and seemed to be mainly locals. we had a lovely breakfast with good size servings. But what made it was the lovely staff. Would go back if we could!More

I tip my hat to the chef, I ordered the meatloaf dinner. My wife had the pot roast dinner, it was truly a pleasure. The food was excellent, and was relaxing. We had the sweet potato fries, also fresh Ice tea.

It has taken too many years to discover Black Bear Diner. We stayed in Bakersfield and went to the diner for breakfast. Wow, it was terrific. Many choices, good service, excellent food, and very large portions. Too far to drive there from San Diego for...breakfast so I searched for other locations. Looking forward to another outstanding breakfast closer to home. Might try a lunch and dinner to see if the meals are like the excellent breakfast. Give Black Bear Diner a try, you’ll like it.More

Enjoyed our meal here just as we have at every other Black Bear Diner. Never a problem with adding or subtracting something on our order. Food always arrives warm, coffee refilled when our cups are empty, hubby gets his hamburger with over easy eggs and...I get the chicken sausage scramble. This diner was larger than our local diners but just as clean, the appropriate amount of "bear" deco and service was just as friendly. We will continue to search out Black Bear Diners as we travel west up to Canada.More

My friend who lived in Bakersfield took me here for a late dinner on Sat. February 8th, 2020. I’ve dined here before, but it’s been several years now. Typical Black Bear portions served with good quality. Service was good, as the waitress was a ‘super...woman’ as she was the only one serving all tables alongside being cashier. I forgot her name, but she worked Sat night between 8:30pm and 10pm and was FIVE STAR all the way!!! I had the Western BBQ Cheeseburger with side salad. My friend Juan had the Tri-Tip steak with veggies. very good food and excellent service. FOUR CLAWS UP!!!! Thanks for reading my review of Black Bear Diner in Bakersfield on California Ave. Peace - Joe G BearMore

I think the best indicator of a diner’s breakfast is how well the cook can cook eggs. I ordered the Benedict. While the English muffins were nicely toasted, the poached eggs were cooked hard. Literally, like hard-boiled cooked through. This place seems to make itself...out to be a nicer version of Denny’s, but at least Denny’s can cook an egg.More

The food was just above average and the service was slow. Bleack Bear has expanded too far and the quality has suffered as a result.

The food isn't t half bad if they would ever get it hot. Portion size is not bad but they aren 't cheap either.

This is the place to bring the family when everybody wants something different. The menu is varied and fun to read too. It's done like a newspaper and has historical articles to keep you occupied. The service is really good and the staff very friendly...and helpful. The portions are generous and everything is fresh and tasty. They do a great job on breakfast and hamburgers, although my fav is the chicken tenders in a basket. Don't forget to leave room for dessert too -- the showcase at the front will call to you as you enter! Ps. Dessert is available for take out too! Enjoy one of the best places to eat in Bakersfield!More

Diner, but a very good diner. Have been to many black bear's but this one is the best of the bunch. Saturday breakfast. Busy. Good, friendly service. Coffee cut stayed full. Good diner food. Clean, even how busy it was. Recommended!
