This restaurant is a part of a very large and well-known resort that had been a landmark in this area for decades.
We ate in the main Gaston's Restaurant twice. Once for dinner with a party of 15, and once for the breakfast buffet with a party of 5. Both meals had excellent service and food ranging from good to very good. Portions are large, the menu is just right and the atmosphere with its historic decor and setting right on the famous White River is unusual and scenic.
Thr salad bar has reopened for dinner with adequate precautions with hand sanitizers and offers a vast array of salads and fruit. It is a nice fresh addition the the meal options.
We tried salmon, chicken fried chicken and ribs among other choices and all were very good.
The breakfast buffet is a great value for the money with several made to order options including omelets, pancakes and French toast. The coffee is excellent.
The resort setting offers a unique grass airstrip used by private planes, a peacock and other birds zoo-type affair and nice areas to walk and talk as a family. There is also a very well stocked gift shop.
We would return on future visits for sure. It is an Arkansas institution and well-deserved and earned.
The only thing holding back a 5 rating is some basic updating needed on the premises and a bit more attention to detail.
But don't miss this place or restaurant. We highly recommend it.

Each year during the off season we strive to make improvements where needed the most. This past year we replaced many decks that needed some attention along with all of our mattresses, couches, and love seats. We will continue to make improvements year after year. This is our last visit to this restaurant. The food was good enough, but the attitude of the front house was arrogant. This is at least the 4th time here, last time we said we wouldn’t come back; guess we should have stuck to that decision. We visit Cotter for fishing and relaxing and are looking for a second vacation home In this area. We were made to feel completely unwelcome by the host. We didn’t have reservations but the restaurant was basically empty. We didn’t check the website so didn’t realize. I own a restaurant in a tourist town and I would fire any staff they acted and treated my customers any way but welcome. There were 4 tables full when we arrived and six when we left. I understand we didn’t have reservations, but there are tones and kinder ways to treat people. My 15 year old even commented on how rude. The waitress was kind but she even had a little tone and made a comment about reservations.

We appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your visit. 2021 has been proved difficult to staff enough employees to keep up with the demand. While we require reservations so that we can prep for all of our diners, we still do our best to accommodate everyone. We hate that this has caused issues with our guests, but we are working hard to hire and train more staff. Thank you for the feedback!

We had a great stay at Gadton’s. What fun to watch private planes fly in to the private airstrip. The restaurant is a great place for a relaxing meal. Great breakfast buffet with cooked to order eggs and pancakes are a great start to a busy day fishing or boating. Sitting outside our cabin watching the river and boats and fishermen is so entertaining. The staff is friendly snd wants your stay to be comfortable and enjoyable. Bravo!

Made reservation in advance for table by the glass overlooking the water. When we got there all the tables overlooking the were empty but was seated in the inner side section. Upon stating what was reserved we were told they don't take reservations but we could not sit at the tables by the glass as they were all reserved. The food was barely luke warm and the roast lamb was so tough you couldn't even cut it ;et alone chew it. Could not order off the menu only option was the buffet. At $72 for the buffet for 2 people you would at least get edible food. We would have gotten better seating and better food had we gone to McDonalds. Don't waste your money on this lousy food

We come here a few times a year and always look forward to coming to Gaston’s. What a disappointment last night. Waiter was short, didn’t want to answer any questions,
Said the cocktail sauce was out of can,
Forgot the butter with my lobster, we had to ask for bread, slammed mini plates on the table, forgot my husbands beer, mashed potatoes had shredded cheese not melted, he blamed the new cook for all the problems.
And he kept telling us it had been a long day. For $220 we expect better service. Awful.

I have been visiting Gaston's since my father took us as a family since the late 50s-60's.
Thankfully little has changed on the outside. All cabins are updated and very clean. Wood fairies (sorry guys) are great bringing firewood. Fishing is wonderful...they don't care how cold it is! Frank is a great guide! Love the airstrip...always something interesting to see. Hope to fly in some day soon.

We ate all of our meals exclusively at the restaurant during our stay. From Prime Rib on day one and including trout, burgers, and rib-eyes we were not disappointed. Salad bar has an expansive array of options. Great for a romantic dinner, too.

I very much enjoyed the salmon & loaded baked potato. The broccolini (side dish) was tough & a waste of an otherwise good vegetable; I did voice my dissatisfaction to our server who, by the way was excellent. The self serve salad bar was frequently maintained; a pleasant surprise from our previous visit.
If you have visited here before - don't expect to find the white table cloths; they have replaced these with disposable paper napkins. Their pricing has noticeably increased since our last visit, maybe just a little out of touch with an Arkansas clientele?

Having not been here in the last 20 years, the restaurant is still going strong. We couldn't get a same day reservation in the main dining, however, they offered to serve us in the bar. We said absolutely. Service by the bartender was excellent. I had the large ribeye. OMG! Cooked to perfection. Starches were delicious and they offered all the colors. My wife and friends all opted for fried. Fried shrimp, Chicken Fried Chicken and Chicken Fried Steak....can you tell we are from the South?.. Still one of the best dining venues in Arkansas. If you get close to the White River in North Central Arkansas, do yourself and your friends a favor. Go to Gaston's.

Highly disappointed! Visited this restaurant during our vacation in Flippin. Saw a lot of billboards advertising the restaurant, but none mentioned reservations required. Our group walked in around 7 PM on Sunday night and we were told we couldn’t be seated. The restaurant was about 1/3 full and they said reservations were required. They did not offer for us a seat in 30 minutes or an hour. They just said we couldn’t seat our party without a reservation. The person at the front was not friendly at all. Save your time and money and visit Fred’s Fish House in Mountain Home!

We were there near the end of June this year for the grandsons birthday. Two of us had very good food however the other three were disappointed in the quality of their meal. Ribs were burnt and a hamburger was described as being like a hockey puck. We won't be going back there. Disappointed because there aren't many good places to eat around Mountain Home. By the way, the waitress was great.

Had a romantic dinner there. It had an amazing view of the sunset on the river, and we were entertained by the animals drawn to the hummingbird feeders, squirrel feeders, and birdfeeders, along with the herons, dragonflies butterflies, and other wildlife. We had the salad boat that probably had 25 different items on it and everything was fresh, which is probably hard to keep up with that 4:30 on a Sunday. The wife and I split an entree of homestyle chicken tenders and homemade onion rings. Everything was hot and crispy. Interesting and eclectic menu that may not have changed in many many years. Service was good and all the employees had extra personality but not over the top. They were accommodating when we wanted moved for a better view. The whole place is a museum and the visit a must do for anyone in the area.

Make sure you ask for drink prices. Ordered what I thought was a Johnny Walker on the rocks and got got hit with a price if $36.50. Then they try to add $2.50 because it was on the rocks and not with water. I love a good scotch, but not that much!

Been going to this restaurant every year in July for the past 23 years.. We typically have a large group of 15 adults. This year we asked to have tables by the windows since we did not have to sit together. Our request was denied. The sautéed shrimp was like eating soup and had no taste and the chicken fingers tasted like something out of a box. The rest of the food was marginal, at best. We only go for the atmosphere with the hopes the food would get better. The server was great. Our group has decided that next year, we will be skipping Gaston’s and going to another restaurant.

I flew into Gastons in October 2020 for a two night stay Friday/Saturday. Great staff, good accommodations, and the restaurant menu had a wide selection of options to select from. I enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner options. My wife and I are planning to return in late March 2021 for a couple days.
