Visiting the area with friends so ate here several times during our stay in the village. The food was excellent, choice of menu was quite outstanding for a small village pub. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Would highly recommend this lovely little pub.

During a weeks holiday 7-14 October for six friends in the village of Pen y Bryn we visited this pub 3 times, once for a Sunday roast and twice for evening meals. The menu had a very good selection and the desserts were to die...for. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent every time, we would definitely recommend a visit here.More

Been meaning to write this review for a while. We found this wonderful hearty pub on our way back from a carriage ride we did with Gentle Giants Shires, we said on our return sometime we would visit. We were not disappoint with our choice!...Wonderful friendly place with honest food. Owners are friendly and very welcoming people, who you can have a laugh with. It's one of those places you will be happy to revisit, which is something me and the girls would love to do again! Thank you all for a fantastic time and meal. Look forward to seeing you all again soon! XxMore

Excellent Sunday roast, simple and tasty, a very traditional British Sunday lunch. Service essential but friendly and attentive to the customer. Has been a very lovely lunch, spot on!

What a great find. Called in on the off chance of getting evening meal Easter sat. Walked in and was greeted by a young chap behind the bar who knew everyone. He was a right character and made everyone laugh. Specials on boards as well...the menu. Had a great meal. We even stopped longer than expected as we were chatting to locals. A right cosy pub with a roaring fire. Food was very reasonable would call again.More

We called in to the Pen Y Bryn Arms on Saturday 19.02.2022 and, having reviewed numerous other establishments over the years I'm not really looking forward to writing this review The pub is in a prime location, right on the main road and in a...great spot and with few other places nearby so it could be an absolute gold mine. However, it does seem to be a little tired and in need of a make over. Don't misunderstand, I don't mean anything too radical just freshening up rather than remaining in the mid-seventies The landlord, bless him, is trying his best but his continual favourite lines, "check mate" when moving glasses on the table to make room for plates wears thin after the third time and the various, little, eccentricites just smack of a crazy approach to a dining experience - hidden chocolates under the folded paper napkins, small nail scissors in each pot of condiments to allow diners to snip the end off the satchets of sauces, for example, are all a little weird. The flat lemonade out of a litre bottle and warm beer didn't help either However, the biggest issue here is the food. I cannot believe the number of positive reviews on Trip Adviser for the quality of the food. Clearly, I don't have any evidence to back up my supposition but the continual sound of a fork pricking the film of a food packet, the numerous times microwave doors are closed and the continual ping of a microwave over the sound of the music coming from the bar can only make me suggest that the reason why diners compliment the food is because they're all ready meals for one coming out of the kitchen. We had two burgers (one with cheese and one without) and the fishcakes and, certainly, all of our meals were micro-waved. The best thing served was the large sharing plate of chips which were really good As I said this could be a fantastic pub with a bit of TLC, a freshening up, and a chef employed who can cook proper pub food rather than continuing to use a microwave On the basis of our vist I cannot, in all honesty, recommend a visit, sorryMore

This place is a hidden gem! The staff made my wife and I and our two little dogs very welcome. The place was very pleasant and atmospheric, and it was lovely to hear the Welsh language being spoken. The food was great, not too fussy...or too expensive. Lovely garden to sit and relax in, a sun trap! We have decided to try to visit once again before we leave!More

On arrival we were given a warm welcome from Jenny. The range of food on the menu was very varied. I chose the brie and mango parcels for starters... they were unusual and quite divine. I followed this with lamb shank in minted gravy, this...just fell off the bone. I washed this all down with a pint of local ale, which was very well kept and complemented the meal well. Thank you to Jenny for a great start to our holiday.More

We have visited a few times over the last month, and each time have been met and made to feel very welcome by John and Jenny. The drinks are very reasonably priced, and the local micro-brewery ale is great. The food on each visit has...been fantastic! We definately recommend the beef suet pudding, the duck dishes, and the pork shank in cider sauce! The warm fudge cake is also lovely! :-) In summary, a great pub!More

Sometimes, good old fashioned hospitality completely out trumps any fancy restaurant by a country mile! There are no heirs and graces here - just lashings of comfort food and oodles of fun and laughter! The food comes in mighty generous portions and arrives steaming hot...and very tasty. (I can also highly recommend the "Taffy Apples" Cider!) We absolutely loved all three of our visits here - thank you so much to the wonderful Jen and Glesni for making us feel so welcome.
