We met friends at The Royal Oak for a midweek lunch. Despite there not being many customers, the service was a little slow (although pleasant). The venue is a fairly typical pub with smaller rooms knocked into a semi open plan area. There is a...More

What a lovely find. From making the booking (the girl who answered the phone suggesting a quiet table so that my friend and I could catch up over 20 lost years in three hours), to the delicious halloumi starter, followed by cauliflower and blue cheese...More

This is a very nice pub, I visited with my mother and my dog, as thankfully dogs are welcome in this pub. We sat near the window in the main bar. I had the chilli tiger prawns and my mother had the Cornish hake, my...More

Interesting menu with some good combinations that you could also "taste" as you read the menu (if you know what I mean). Food beautifully prepared and served with a good portion. Cooked to perfection and very tasty. Good serving staff. Would go back again.

Decided on starters and mains for lunch, choosing arancini and bubble and squeak for main. The service is great and very friendly, I decided not to have bacon with my bubble and squeak so was offered extra veg as a substitute, having taken this offer,...More

Lovely pub, staff were polite and attentive. Menu looked good and our food was 90% great, but there are a couple of hiccups witch each course. Ham Hock Terrine: Lovely terrine, served with Parmesan crisp. Both great, but together the Parmesan crisp was so strong...More

Great pub, one of my favourites. The food is consistently good and the service is always friendly and quick. A must if you haven't visited already.

Hi, yes dogs are most welcome inside the pub. We love our little furry friends. Water bowls and doggy treats are also available. Dogs can sit with their owners in the bar area and at the tables situated on the hard floors.

Description
From the banks of the Thames take the short trip up the winding hill to Bovingdon Green and the warm, wooden heart of award-winning The Royal Oak. Oak by name and oaken by nature - but not hard or austere: not a bit of it. Bare floorboards and ancient timbers ooze bonhomie, it feels like someone's home - it might as well be yours for the time you are there. Like old friends visiting for dinner, the welcome is easy and relaxed. It's journey's end.
