Four us ate at the El Viejo for dinner. All four enjoyed their meals. with wine and bottled water - the cost was under $50.00 USD. I had the ceviche (maybe the best if have every that) and a white fish – wonderful. The table next to our table ordered crab and the waiter brought out a live crab to be certain that it was acceptable. The only issue we had is the language and it was our issue not the El Viejo. None of us spoke Spanish. There was only one waiter that understood English which caused the dinner to take longer, but again that is our problem.

After the tour to national park, we arrived at this restaurant around 14:00. And i found that tables were fully occupied and had to wait in front of the restaurant about 15 minutes. (Luckily it was not rainy, not chilly.) We (my wife and myself) ordered one whole king crab ( small green salad and rice included). For us it was enough. the crab was so fresh and i enjoyed much. However, according to my experience, Taste of crab becomes best in winter time. so i want to come back here 4-6 months later once again.

It is a quarter to seven in the twilight of summer in Tierra del Fuego and I am almost last in the queue for the tiny restaurant serving the best king crabs in town. Inside on a shared table for five I introduce myself to the others and we all look at the menu and shriek four king crabs (they serve one between two) and a cheese and king crab cazuela (common name for any stew baked in a shallow bowl). Outside the Flightless Steamer Duck (Tachyeres pteneres) is a comic little bird that paddles patiently between the tourist and fishing boats along the waterfront. The beauty of the Beagle Channel is humbling this is truly travelling even to the Uttermost Part of the Earth. The day had been full of wildlife - elegant Chilean swans with black necks and white bodies near the lagoons at the end of the highway through south america called Route 3, and beaver dams visible on a trail off this route, wild horses galloping beside the puffing steam train Fin del Mundo, and an island colony of nesting magellan penguins reached in a special expedition from Estancia Haberton - where there is also a wonderful museum and research station. I visited in summer 2018 (the web site only allows me to say 2020)

We arrived two days ago at 7 pm sharp the restaurant was already open for min 40 min , because a couple of people already finished with their starters. No way to make reservation and no way to get a table later. Absolutely packed. Yesterday we arrived 6:30 pm and their was already a line with 10 people waiting. Opened at 7pm . We had the complete king crab, the starter and 2 bottles of wine (1100peso) and paid in total with the tip 4400 pesos. Which was ok. The food was not really extraordinary (no 5 stars) but ok , you cannot really doing anything wrong preparing a king crab! It is ok , but not a place to spent a nice evening . We had half of the restaurant full with asians . A little bit loud. The ice cream with chocolate topping was also ok. There is Tia Elvira a couple of houses in the same street a little higher prices , but much better atmosphere.

The restaurant is famous for its fresh king crab and reasonable price. We eaten here twice: before and after our Antarctica cruise. The first time was dinner which we stayed in line for 30’ before restaurant opened. We were seated immediately after opening. We ordered quickly ahead of others and got king crab. There were quickly sold out and some tables did not get them. After cruise, we had to catch 2pm flight. We came this restaurant again and got much bigger crab and much fresh then last time. We asked waiter to help us getting meat out(too hard for us to cut it) and truly enjoyed the meal. I think it is better to come for lunch instead of dinner before crab run out.

If you want fresh King Crab , this is the place to go. No reservations so first come first serve. They opened at 7 pm and were full by 7:30 but the tables turn quickly. Staff is friendly and efficient. You get to pick your own crab from the tank and it is so fresh, so sweet. And the ice cream dessert is good too. I couldn’t ask for more!

I ate here twice while in Ushuaia, once for dinner with friends and once for lunch as a solo female. Both times I was received with charm and warmth and both meals were excellent. If you come for dinner, you will face a line - they open at 7 and if you're okay with eating so early by Ush standards, you'll probably get in more quickly. The weekday lunch was much easier. If you can, share the entire centolla (king crab) with a friend - it's the best option and was the best crab I had in Ushuaia. The sautéed crab meat and shrimp was also excellent, and the paella, which I ordered twice, was once amazing and once just very good. You can wash it all down with some very well-priced wines or a Beagle or Andes beer. Of the traditional seafood places we visited in Ushuaia this was the best, better crab and nicer service than Volver.

We were visiting while on a cruise. The seafood was delicious and very fresh. The simple cooking techniques allowed the flavors of the seafood to shine! The broth in the seafood stew was light and very flavorful and it was filled with muscles, crab, shrimp, octopus and a few veges and herbs. The seafood pasta was in a blush sauce that wasn’t heavy, even though it was very creamy in texture. The pan seared Hake was cooked perfectly, moist, tender and flaky. It was a big piece of fish and it was accompanied by boiled root veges and some pasta. They even had a thirst quenching non-alcoholic beer that was outstanding! Clausthaler Premium N/A. If you are going to eat here, come early and be prepared to wait in line. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table, but it was worth it. The staff speaks minimal English but everything came out great!

After waiting outside for 30 minutes, looking at SIX empty tables, they finally let people in. Once in, we ordered the most expensive thing on the menu and asked to please have some kind of potato instead of rice as a side because rice makes me very sick. (I cant afford to get sick right before leaving for a 10 day trip to Antarctica!) This simple request was a no go, despite the cost of the all sides is exactly the same. If we’d had time to go elsewhere before our ship boarded, ee would have. Instead we stayed. Our crab was cold, bland tasting, and mushy. I left hungry, didnt even finish the crab bc yuck. A real shame since I didnt even have a side to fill up on. A wasted $34usd.

We passed by this restaurant in order to try King Crab. The place was crowded with a queue and after 15min, we have been able to sit and order. The stock of beers are more limited than on the menu and for the food we tried two meals based on King Crab: Parmesan one and stew one. Both were good, we felt the taste of the King Crab but we haven't appreciate it that much. No big deal, that was to test :-) The price is correct compared to other expensive places around.

The 45 minute waiting in line to eat here was definitely not worth it or we just ordered the wrong dish. After our disastrous Paella a couple of nights ago we checked out this restaurants photos and saw a real Paella and both got very excited. We saw other customers crabs coming out and nearly changed our minds - we should of done!! Our Paella resembled a stew, the mussels still had their beards attached and I found bits of mussel shell in the bowl. There was plenty of seafood in the dish but it was tasteless. I added tons of pepper in the hope of making it taste a little better but ended up just not eating it. The wine was delicious and we got great service but yet another disappointing night eating out in Ushuaia.

ASA speciality of the area we had to try king crab during our visit to Ushuaia. Our tour guide suggested that this was the place to go especially at lunch time when the line outside isn’t quite as bad. We arrived just after noon and probably waited less than 10 minutes for a table for 5. It’s a bit like cafe inside rather than a restaurant and feels a little chaotic but that leads to an informal atmosphere. The 4 crab eaters ordered 2 large king crabs between us (comes with rice and a side salad) and our non-crab eater went for the salmon. 2 large crabs were fished out of the tank for us and isn’t wasn’t long before they arrived on platters. With most of the meat in the legs we were given scissors to cut through the shell and out popped some lovely sweet crab meat. Even in a cheap place like Argentina it’s still quite expensive to eat crab (over £40 per crab) but it was enjoyable.

This is THE place to get king crab, and the line out the door proves that. We waited about 30 minutes in line, it moves fast. Shared the whole king crab, more for the experience than anything. We also got the addition of mussels, octopus, squid and clams to start, which was ok, but we can't complain for the additional $4.00. The king crab here also seems to be least expensive in town.

We arrived within 5 minutes of it opening and a number of tables had already gone. One cannot book a table. We sat near the window but moved because one of the other tables was occupied by a family who plonked their child down with an iPad and a programme at seemingly full volume. We moved to the back of the room and that was fine. We chose king crab with rice and salad. And a bottle of wine. It arrived fairly quickly and after a quick lesson on how to use scissors we were away and eating. The crab is very prickly. Far more so,than any I have experienced before. But the meat was excellent, and with some mayonnaise and rice it was lovely. The bread was very good too. Wine was fine. We also, enjoyed a little bit of banter with the woman folding the paper napkins. Packet after packet. And some of the waiters too. All in all an enjoyable experience. And I would go,back.

Well worth the wait. You cannot book a table in advance. You just turn up and wait your turn to get a table. Once in (and very cold in my case) the choice on the menu is limited but mainly fish dishes. However we chose a mixture dish of fish that was delicious. We followed up with a main of fish with crab in a pink sauce. This too was tasty and the waiter recommended only one between us as it was very filling. He was right as we were both full after the two dishes. We will definitely go again as the food is excellent and great value for money. Top tip: go early if you want long crab else there'll be none left
