Very conveniently situated across the street from our hotel we went here one day for a great value lunch and enjoyed it so much we returned the following day for dinner. Very traditional decor with suited waiters and starched white table linen but quite relaxed atmosphere and great food and wines. We had the best steaks here of our holiday so far in Argentina, tender and tasty, cooked exactly to our liking, with wonderful fries. Good salads and desserts too!

The fact that we went back again to eat here tells the whole story. The first time we ordered paella which the menu said was for 2 to 3 guests. Needless to say, delicious but we only managed to eat 50% of it. It would have fed 4 easily. The second time we had lasagna and it was delicious. The wine was reasonable and good. The service was excellent. We were glad that we had a fairly long walk back to the hotel, after consuming all that good food.

We went there for dinner twice. We also pretty much had the same meal both evenings. The first night the beef the. chorizo was amazing, not much fat and cooked to perfection with a rocket and parmesan salad .
On the second night the beef de chorizo 500g had alot of fat and was quite chewy also we had a mixed salad which wasn't our favourite
Overall we liked it and I guess we have been unlucky with the cut the 2nd night.
Also they have a great wine list which local wines

Top rated restaurant in the town, but it didn’t stand out for me. It’s an old traditional place and gets busy. Staff were fine, but not particularly welcoming. We had steak which was decent quality, but undercooked - didn’t compare with the photos we were shown of levels of cooking. You can get a few salads to go with your food, but I couldn’t find any vegetables on the menu. No English spoken on our visit - makes choosing from the menu difficult. Wine at 560pesos a bottle no better than one we had elsewhere for 160pesos. Overall, it was fine.

We did not like our experience in this restaurant. Our meat was well done, although we asked for medium cooked meat. The mixed salad was okay but nothing special. Our waitress cleary didn’t have her day, she was grumpy and not welcoming at all. She just put the food on our table without saying anything. All the other tables were given some bread to start with and a limoncello to finish the meal, but she did not offer us anything. Would not recommend going here.

Good atmosphere, great service, fantastic food!
Go the meat!
It's always full, it's not extortionate and the portions are massive.
The team really know there stuff not only about food and vino but love sharing in their beautiful local area.
If you want a great Argentinan meal with loads of passion, you found it!

Service was very slow ( in terms of our food) and initially we were ignored and took a while to be acknowledged and even provided with menus. Food however was good and we enjoyed a T bone steak, with salad and mashed potato. Recommend sharing as portions generous. Good half bottles of wine available too.

Warm welcome, attention to detail from our waiter, and we noticed this at other tables too. Friendly, helpful especially if we did not speak Spanish fluently.
Food was magnificent, but colossal portions so be careful when thinking about what to eat and what to add as extras. This was also the same on other tables.
Excellent quality cooking, with very tasty ingredients.
Value for money is staggering, even if you traded dollars or pounds at the official rate. For “blue exchange rate” it is unreal.
If we were staying more than one night I wouldn’t bother looking for another place to eat.

We loved this restaurant! So do the locals it appears. We ate there 3 times over 2 stays in Salta. The bife de chorizo was the very best best. Very good and large ensalada…Mediterranean was my favorite. It is definitely a sharing experience as the portions are large. Wine is very well priced with a decent selection of regional and Mendoza labels. Federico served us twice. He was an excellent waiter and offered great assistance and recommendations in ordering. He spoke some English which was helpful for us as our Spanish was limited.

Very enjoyable dinner, our steaks (T-Bone & Chorizo) were both excellent as was the grilled Chicken. The restaurant has a great wine selection, we barely touched the sides of it with a 1/2 bottle of Chandon fizz and their very drinkable house wine, but if wine pairing is your thing this place should fit the bill. Speaking of bills the costs was minimal at 60,000ARG/51GBP for 3. Couldn't help but notice the tomahawk steaks which arrived at the table next to us, absolutely huge at about 1kg each and expertly carved and served by the waiter tableside. Will be going back for those in a couple of days.

If you want some nice meat then this is definetely the place to be. I have been here for numerous times and when in Salta I would usually have lunch here almost every day! It never disappointed me. Once had some meat that I did not like, and it was replaced with another dish without a problem, something I appreciate very much as well. Would definetely recommend you to go here!

Recommended by a local and understandably, El Charrua provided us with a great dinner in a perfect setting. Nice atmosphere, plenty of choice from an extensive range of food and drink on offer. Attentive service too.

I had an excellent experience. I ordered the lomo, which is essentially filet mignon. It was $14 and cooked perfectly. It was also unbelievably large. I also had the mashed potatoes for $3. It was a large portion, but the chef had a little too much of a heavy hand as far as the salt shaker goes. The house wine was very good and reasonably priced as well. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. I highly recommend this restaurant

We do not very often eat meat, but being in Argentina we made an exception for the absolutely delicious T-Bone steak. The locro was not my cup of tea (personal taste, I am sure it was well prepared) but the salad nicoise was good. The goat of another person at out table was an enormous portion, more than enough for 2 persons. Busy place!

This restaurant is GOOD and the servers are so nice!!
The meat and chips are incredible. We weren't too hungry so we shared one portion which was HUGE. Great value for money!!
Our only regret is that we weren't hungrier because then we would have had the parilla for 2 which a lot of people were getting and which looked fantastic
