It’s away from the crowds of people and the complete tat that is sold at La Boca. A sweet little restaurant frequented by locals; we were the only tourists. Excellent courteous service and a setting with white tablecloths and white cloth napkins. The menu was pretty Italian. Authentic Italian starters like Melanzane Parmigiana with their own twist. Tirimasu was excellent. We loved the whole experience.

With many restaurants to choose from around here, this has to be one of the best. Excellent, authentic Italian food; everything fresh and tasting wonderful. Good service, and nice ambiance in the restaurant. Will certainly be back next time we are in BA.

This is a fantastic Italian family run restaurant in la Boca, Buenos Aires. The decor is simple. The food is amazing. Home made pasta that nearly melts in your mouth. The sauces are all delicious. Our favorites are the olives Ascolanos (stuffed green olives - breaded and fried to perfection). The vegetable raviolis with a simple tomato sauce and the meat raviolis with a fresh tomato sauce that is cooked for a slightly longer time than the 1st. Sauce. Actually we have never had anything that wasn’t amazing here. There are few tourists that frequent this amazing restaurant. The staff are top notch. We love this restaurant. There is a second restaurant that they have in Palermo but it is not quite the same but not bad.

Grumpy waiter. It would be an effort to be less charming than he was. Glacial service. I had Caprese which was forgettable. The mozzarella was hard and tasteless. The Risotto with prawns came crusted and the prawns were way overdone. It was very clear that the plate had been sitting in the oven or hot plate for far too long. The restaurant was certainly crowded but it was definitely the most forgettable meal that I’ve had in Argentina over the past 3 weeks. The waiter suddenly became a bit more charming at the end of the meal. Too late. Avoid.

The pasta was bland and the Aperol spritz lacked the spirit . Service could be better too, probably we went on a crowded Friday evening, that’s why the person taking the order seemed uninterested.

Came across by accident when walking from Boca to San Telmo with my 2 adult daughters, both vegetarian and 1 gluten free. We enjoyed so much we returned for our 'farewell' dinner. My suggestion is to have the filled pasta over the dried. Clearly it is (along with the bread) handmade and of high quality. Service was great but unhurried in that BA 'style';no one rushes you. Plenty of choices for vegetarians and gluten free. We had many meals over 2 weeks and this was up at the top. Well worth getting a taxi to.

First the photo on the main page isn't current. They are in La Bocca I dont know where that location is, but i dont think it exists. We were served by the owners daughter, we asked why do you work here and she said its my family business, from that minute we were family. The hot and cold appetizers were yummy and then onto the pasta, go with an appetite. Upstairs they are making the pasta by hand. Its such a pleasure sharing this amazing meal with them!

The staff is amazing at this locale. The food is even better though! We ordered The tortellini with olive oil and garlic and something else I can’t recall and the tortellini filled with spinach with a flavorful cabbage sauce. We followed our wonderful waiter’s recommendation and thoroughly enjoyed it.We paid the equivalent of 40 dollars for two including a bottle of wine (not a “cheap” wine either). The house even gave us two home made “limoncello”as a courtesy. Limoncello is a very sweet digestive liquor made from lemons.

The lasagna, and spinach ricotta ravioli were great. Would recommend reservations unless you arrive early. Desserts were also great.

Wonderful home cooked italian in the heart of La Boca. Take a cab there and back and don't mention River Plate Football Club....only Boca Juniors. Otherwise you'll end up wearing dinner. The pasta is fantastic; the atmosphere quaint & homey. The menu has risotto, steaks, fish and other offerings. The wine list isn't particularly large, but has some excellent choices. Good for lunch too. Highly recommended.

I mean the place on Thames Street. Very nice decor, with good atmosphere, to eat very well and feel very comfortable. From what I could see and comments from friends, the public is middle age, generally quiet, it is not a place where you have to raise your voice to understand. Well attended, although they always ensure this very busy, a must book. Good choice of food, especially pasta, seafood and fish, has a predominantly Mediterranean menu. Good wine choices. Reasonable price for your offer, for the place, attention and menu. Place to schedule and return.

It may sounds exaggerated, but believe me that is not. Its location make the place even better. The best option is to go with 8 people and try every pasta dish in the menu. AMAZING!!!!

Il Matterello is a family-run restaurant discretely located in a small street off the beaten track of Boca. Folksy unpretentious decor, a wall of wines, white tablecloths, cozy friendly atmosphere, classic traditional Italian cuisine. When we came for lunch the place was packed with noisy happy local families. We felt like in an authentic Italian trattoria. Service was average. We shared simple burratta tricolor, more original cima alla genovese, hand made ravioles de verdura a la puttanesca, fresh tagliatelle a la ruccoka. Simple and tasty. Plus a fruity Catena Zapata. Pricey but worth it. No surprise at Il Matterello, it's a safe bet.

We enjoyed our last evening in Buenos Aires at this restaurant. The food was great and the atmosphere good with what appeared to be lots of local people eating there. We did book and luckily managed to get a table at short notice as the restaurant was full.

La Boca
A neighbourhood defined by its immigrant roots, La Boca still maintains this past alive in its streets today. Due to its proximity to the river, the neighbourhood became the preferred settling area for immigrants of a wide variety of origins, who ended up living together in the conventillos. Thus, these houses became a melting pot of different cultures and traditions that birthed creations like tango and lunfardo. Nowadays, this legacy can be seen and felt on Caminito Street, which welcomes visitors with colourful facades, cobblestones, and street artists showcasing their skills. Just like its neighbor San Telmo, La Boca is one of the prime destinations to experience the traditions and customs that originated from the city’s immigrant past and which have shaped its distinct identity.
