Stopped just by chance walking around - had a lunch "Tapas for 2" - which was a LOT - then as we were getting ready to leave we were asked to go to the basement - its a spiral staircase into an underground tunnel area. I couldn't understand what the tour individual communicated as it was in Spanish but was... More

Part of a group dinner with excellent appetizers, steak, fries, salad and ice cream ,nice Malbec and water.Ana Maria was a wonderful hostess and teacher and introduced us to the history of San Telmo and the house in particular. After the meal we descended down into the tunnel to observe collected artifacts if an ongoing archeological excavation. For our first dinner in Buenos Aires, our tour selected this restaurant for our group of 16. The owner's family warmly welcome use and treated us to a wonderful dinner of steak cooked to order with French fries salad and ice cream after a starter of sausages. The visit to the historic tunnel after dinner was fascinating. A good start... More

Pretending to be one of the best hosts in Buenos Aires, the owner and his daughter in charge of our group did not meet up with their own expectations. We had to wait very long for our meals, even though we had tried to keep the order easy without to many variations. The praised lomo (tenderloin steak) was below agerage,... More

Hate to make 1-star reviews, but in this case I have no choice. tl;dr look for another place to spend you money. OK, after reading TA reviews we've chosen this restaurant as the best of opened around 5pm options nearby. Ordered food came fast, but the portions were 3 times smaller than usual in Argentina (melanesa was even smaller than... More

Our host, Maria, couldn't have been nicer. The food was very interesting - I think they serve every part of the cow. The soup was delicious and the steak was quite tasty but I could have passed on the intestines, kidneys, etc. The building's history is fascinating. You can even go down to the basement and see the secret tunnel.... More

First, this restaurant is partially located in the first house built in Buenos Aires. The owner has an old map showing a picture of this house. The ambience is very cozy and Hispanic. Don't forget to ask for the tour of the current archaeological research being done in the basement of this restaurant. Kinda neat. Now the food. It was... More

We were here before normal hours with a group. As a result, we didn't get to choose from the menu but they brought us a nice selection of appetizers before our steaks. The appetizers weren't something I normally order so it was mostly items I didn't like. However the steaks were really good. Our group was 16 people and they... More

My wife and I went to this restaurant as part of our OAT tour group, which led to an evening that was perhaps not typical of the average couple on their own. We were greeted by the enthusiastic and entertaining hostess and owner Marie and all 14 of us were seated at a long table in the inner room. Since... More

One of the best, if not the best, place I have been so far while my stay in Argentina. Five star service and food.... I definitely believe is a "must come place" in Buenos Aires....

Description

Staying in San Telmo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
